I would like to thank the valuable contributions of our staff and parent volunteers. For without their efforts, the annual drama production would not be possible! Directors: Kathy K. 2 School News and Events: Murray Hill Music Boosters Invites YOU for a Night of Fun Please join us for a dinner and a night of fun! We are having our annual Family Night Gift Card Bingo on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 7:00pm at MHMS Cafeteria. Doors will open at 6:30pm. We will be selling pizza by the slice and concessions. Our Bingo games will begin at 7:00pm. You may also complete the pre- order form to reserve your spot. All proceeds go directly to our band, chorus, drama and orchestra. We hope to see you there!!! 2

Workout of the Week #20 7 Rounds for Time: 7 Squats 7 Burpees Form- Consistency- Intensity The link below demonstrates the movement standards for the squats: xibhg The link below demonstrates the movement standards for the burpees: Howard County National History Day Congratulations to all of the seventh and eighth grade GT Social Studies students who participated in the HCPSS National History Day Exhibition last weekend. Over one hundred Murray Hill Middle School students produced a variety of projects including websites, documentaries, exhibits, and papers, and on Saturday, six projects were presented at the Howard County competition by a total of eleven students. The projects were Leah Stimpson's research paper on the French Revolution; Achint Mahant and Charvika Minna's website on Edward Jenner; Jessica Wu and Shrutina Shrestha's documentary on Jacques Cousteau; Madison Garrigus' exhibit on Percy Fawcett and the Lost City of Z; Nidhi Baxi, Maheera Chaudhry, and Isha Santhosh's exhibit on the use of the telegraph during the Civil War; and Katie Hagedorn and Brooke Miller's exhibit on Rosie the Riveter and the women of World War II. These students and all of the other participants put a tremendous amount of work into their projects, and we are extremely proud of their hard work. 3

4 Atholton High School Seeking PTSA Board Members The Atholton High School PTSA is starting to plan for next school year. We have numerous vacancies to fill!! Please consider helping the PTSA - we depend on our parent volunteers to help us be successful. Vacancies may include some or all of the following: Treasurer, 1st and 2nd VP, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Staff Appreciation, Volunteer Coordinator, Post Prom Party, and Driver s Ed and SAT Prep. Please contact President@atholtonptsa.org or call Lesley Ahmuty HCPSS News Howard County Board of Education Takes Action on Academic Calendar The Howard County Board of Education voted to continue the current practice of closing schools and offices on mandated state holidays, and Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah in the Academic Calendar. The Board also asked the school system to propose options for including three new days when schools will be closed next school year to recognize Lunar New Year Eve, Eid Al- Adha and Diwali. Summer School Catalog HCPSS presents a number of learning experiences and educational opportunities through summer programs and classes. The 2016 Summer Classes and Camps course information is now available. Instructional Materials on Display March 29 April 18, various locations and times Instructional materials recommended for the first time will be on display for citizen review. Appropriate forms will be available to express approval or to request reevaluation of any of the proposed instructional materials. Parent Academy: Finding Solutions to School Concerns Saturday, March 19, 10 a.m. 12 p.m., Oakland Mills Middle School Learn valuable information about how to resolve school- related concerns including bullying and student discipline with representatives from the HCPSS Office of School Administration and the Howard County Police Department. 4

5 Slayton House Theatre Camp of the Arts University of Maryland Stepping Stones to Your Future (SSTYF) summer camp. This week- long coed commuter camp is for rising 7th & 8th graders who are interested in learning more about engineering. Each day is filled with a variety of fun hands- on activities and engineering challenges. There are two weeks to choose from: Session 1 July or Session 2 July To apply, we require an online form and a teacher recommendation from a current math or science teacher.
