1 Job Title: PE Teacher Star Primary School EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY We are committed to and champion equality and diversity in all aspects of employment with the London Borough of Newham. General Duties: The education and welfare of a designated class group of pupils in accordance with the requirements of Conditions of Employment of School Teachers, having due regard to the National Curriculum, the school s aims, objectives and schemes of work, and policies of the Governing Body. To share in the corporate responsibility for the well being and discipline of all pupils. To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfil their academic potential. JOB PURPOSE: to raise standards in PE, increase the number of children playing sport and to improve the quality of the PE teaching. PE TEACHER S KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Strategic Development to contribute to the discussion of the school s aims and participate, where appropriate, in the implementation of policies, plans, targets and practices. Learning & Teaching to secure and sustain effective teaching in PE for individuals, groups and classes. Develop the quality of teaching, assess the standards of pupils achievements and set targets for improvement. To model good practice. To co-plan, coteach, observe and give constructive feedback. To develop and extend pupils PE skills, knowledge, understanding and application. Leadership & Management To liaise with the PE subject leader making suggestions for improvement in the PE teaching and learning. To liaise with the lunchtime playleader on suggestions for widening the variety of PE/sport/physical lunchtime activities. To raise all children s attainment in PE. KEY TASKS: Strategic Development Plan and assess pupils PE learning Learning &Teaching As per school policy and National Curriculum requirements, assess the children s attainment in PE and then set clear objectives for improvement. Monitor pupils progress towards those objectives.

2 Use appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate clear learning objectives and have clear success criteria Recognise the level that a pupil is achieving and make accurate assessments Plan effectively to ensure that pupils have the opportunity to meet their potential, notwithstanding differences of race and gender, and taking account of the needs of pupils. Plan effectively to meet the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disability Take account of ethnic and cultural diversity to enrich the curriculum and raise achievement. Imaginative use of ICT to secure excellent learning To see evidence of PE contributing to pupils personal development and wellbeing, their behaviour and self-esteem Leadership & Management Secure a good standard of pupil behaviour in the lessons through establishing appropriate rules and high expectations of discipline in line with the behaviour policy of the school. Deploy other adults effectively in the lessons, involving them, where appropriate, in the management of pupils learning. Work as a member of a team, sharing information, ideas and expertise. Work closely with the PE subject leader Take responsibility for own professional development To promote the profile of PE in school to staff, pupils, parents and governors. To lead high quality CPD for teachers, teaching assistants, and midday supervisors To run a successful extra curricular clubs Deployment of Staff & Resources Organise a stimulating working environment appropriate for PE Teach pupils to take responsibility for resources and the environment. Ensure that resources are organised and readily available to promote a purposeful environment for teaching and learning to take place. Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences develop schemes of work and lesson plans establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities prepare classroom for class activities 2

3 provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment use relevant technology to support instruction observe and evaluate student's performance and development assign and level class work, homework, tests and assignments provide appropriate feedback on work encourage and monitor the progress of individual students maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations prepare required reports on students and activities manage student behaviour in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary perform certain pastoral duties including but not limited to student support, counselling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations participate in year group and staff meetings, parent meetings communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities Education and Experience Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, state Single subject teaching credential or certification if teaching a specialized subject State certification Relevant teaching experience Knowledge of relevant technology 3
