Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham has been on top of the fiction list since January, while My Secret Sister by Helen Edwards has dominated the Non-Fiction category since October! Visit our website to see what other titles made the list, place holds to try to knock John Grisham from the top spot, or make your own top 10 list! Thanks Knit Wits! 2 Kids Summer Reading Programs TD Summer Reading Club Interactive storytelling, games, crafts, sing-alongs and prizes to improve and promote reading through the summer months for students in K-6! July 6 August 24 Wednesdays at 11:00am-12:00 noon OR 2:00pm-3:00pm. This is a drop in program, no registration is required. Hot Book Club 30 minutes of paired reading with an older reader, followed by 30 minutes of games, activities and fun for students who have completed Gr. 1-3! July 5 August 25 Tuesdays & Thursdays at 11 am - 12 noon Registration begins June 1. Volunteers: those who are in grades 5 & up and are interested in volunteering are asked to fill out a volunteer registration form and submit it to our Summer Reading Co-ordinator. Students in grade 4-7 are invited to join us for an afternoon of games, crafts, snacks and FUN! Tween Club is held the last Friday of every month. This is a FREE program, but pre-registration is encouraged as space is limited. You can register at the library or by calling NEW! Upcoming Tween Clubs: May 27th 2:30-4:00pm June 24th 2:30-4:00pm Page 2 Tween Club doesn t end when school does! Watch for our summer Tween Club meetings in July and August.

3 Saturday Family Movie Matinees Children must be accompanied by an adult Feel free to bring your own snacks, blankets, pillows, etc. Snacks will be available for purchase with proceeds going towards library programming. Small Wonders Rhymes, tickles and fun for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and a caregiver. Small Wonders runs every Wednesday morning from 11:00-11:30am until June 1st. Pre-registration for this program is encouraged, please call the library at Hoopla now has a kids setting, so you can rest assure whatever your kids are watching or reading it s meant for little eyes and ears. Ask a staff member how you can get connected to Hoopla and Hoopla for Kids for free with your library card! Page 3

4 Adult Summer Reading Program Join the Coaldale Public Library s Adult Summer Reading Program and enter to win weekly prizes for every book you read and our GRAND PRIZE of an ereader! For each book read between June 1st and September 1st, 2016, participants may submit a ballot telling us what they liked/disliked about the book. Every completed ballot will be entered for a chance to win a weekly prize. Weekly draws will take place on Fridays from July 8 to August 26, The grand prize draw will take place on Friday, September 2nd. Ballots will be available at the circulation desk or on our website, beginning in mid-june. The program is open to readers age 16 and over. Adult Book Club Members of the Coaldale Adult Book Club read and discuss a variety of current and classic books. Meetings are held the last Monday of each month at 7 pm in the McCain Gallery. Having troubles finding a title? Have no fear! The Coaldale Public Library is a resource sharing library within the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, which means any cardholder can have items brought in from any participating library in the system. However, if you still aren t able to find a title from any of the 33 libraries, try The Alberta Library online catalogue. Here you are able to search every public and academic library in Alberta and have a title mailed to your home library! Page Lastly, if you re thinking Coaldale should really own this title then how about submitting a Suggest for Purchase request to our Head Librarian either in person or online! It s really that simple.

5 Annual Book Sale 12-5pm Join us after the Settler s Day Parade for our annual book sale. Find great reads and DVDs for $1 or less! All proceeds go to the Coaldale Public Library Friends Society. 6 The Shadow Man by Shirley Asplund May 2nd June 15th, 2016 In the McCain Gallery Shirley is the youngest of 15 children and for as long as she can remember she has been drawing. Her parents encouraged creativity. She grew up on a farm, so naturally she loved animals especially horses. Though she tends to lean towards imaginary subject matter she does enjoying learning about various styles and genres. This is Shirley s first show and her debut doesn t disappoint. I think aliens and odd creatures are my niche, and am always attempting to apply a strange twist to my art, says Asplund. Her goal is to great an escape from the real world and hopes you enjoy her wide range of topics and colours. Welcome to my mind, and thank you so much for viewing. Geometric Abstraction by Various Artists June 22nd July 20th The subject of these artworks, rather than being an object, figure or scene are the formal properties of the image itself - colour, line, composition, light, texture and space. Form is emphasized over content. The artwork is considered to have an intrinsic value based on the qualities of the paint, or other material used, which is not dependent on the external value of the content of the image.
