3 Introduction The Youth Development and Support Unit (YDSU), part of Enfield Council`s Youth and Family Support Service, provides a range of accredited learning courses, mentoring, personal development, and PSHE (personal, social, health and economic) programmes. We are a key educational support provider and work with a number of educational and training establishments to support / help deliver their curriculum. Our offer to education, training and employment (ETE) providers focuses on two key outcomes: Outcome 1: Children and young people learning and achieving: Learning key skills and improving learning outcomes Gaining nationally recognised awards and qualifications Improving life, social and vocational skills recognised awards improving life key skills Educational Traded Services

4 Outcome 2: Improving the life chances of young people This involves a particular focus on: Improving attendance, behaviour and attainment at schools and colleges Broadening life experiences and creating opportunities Developing an altruistic community focus, particularly a desire to be part of, engage with, and support their local community e.g. through volunteering Developing life-long learning skills and strategies, particularly around thinking skills that equip young people to operate in the 21st century job market Developing team work skills to help young people thrive in the working environment Developing life and independent living skills such as budgeting, health and hygiene, diet and meal preparation which serve to equip young people with a skill and knowledge base that helps them thrive as they enter adulthood job market adulthood life long learning community focus life skills attainment 4 Educational Traded Services 2015

5 Our experience We are highly regarded by the ETE providers who have used our services and we are very popular amongst students, teachers, parents and carers. Our programmes support and enrich the curriculum and are proven to contribute towards improving attendance, behaviour and attainment at school. As Sir Michael Wilshaw, Ofsted Chief, stated: Ofsted has always understood the importance of how schools engage their students in extra-curricular activity and volunteering in their local community, which we reflect in our judgements on behaviour and safety. Ofsted will ensure our guidance for inspectors, schools and colleges emphasises the importance of young people having the opportunity to serve others in their community. Educational Traded Services

6 Our programmes are recognised by Ofsted as valuable activities and interventions to support students and enable them to reach their potential. A recent Ofsted inspection report regarding services for children in care highlighted the contribution of our educational work: A range of activities and opportunities are delivered through the youth support service resulting in outcomes including young people receiving accreditation, recognition of their achievements, diversion from anti-social behaviour and development of healthy lifestyles/life skills. Additionally the quality of our practice has been deemed good and learning and achievement good with outstanding features by an externally validated inspection. We also gained national good practice recognition for improving educational outcomes for young people with special educational needs, looked after children and young people living in deprived communities. 6 Educational Traded Services 2015

7 Quality Assurance Our work is underpinned by robust curriculum planning, performance management and quality assurance arrangements, which include: Outcome focused lesson plans and individual action plans Outputs fully monitored Feedback from students, teachers and parents/carers Evaluations of learning and personal records regarding individual distance travelled Evidence of educational progress and attainment gained through examinations and gaining nationally recognised awards and qualifications Internal inspection and external validation such as quality marks, validated practice [C4EO] and Ofsted feedback focused plans fully monitored evaluations inspection evidence Educational Traded Services

8 Duke of Edinburgh s Award Licence Package We can provide schools with an Award Licence Package so that you can run the Duke of Edinburgh s (DofE) Award yourself within your school community. This includes training, guidance, support and quality assurance in operating the DofE Award as part of the extracurricular opportunities for students. The package includes:- Award Unit Operating Manual and access to Operating Licence Advice and support in running all aspects of the Award scheme Expedition quality assurance visit Regular training for Award Leaders and students in areas such as edofe, sectional awards, evidencing educational outcomes Attendance at parents evenings Award assessment and issuing of certificates Award Leader meetings to share good practice and further improve outcomes for students Access to hire expedition equipment Annual celebration event to recognise student achievement 8 Educational Traded Services 2015

9 DofE Award Group Management We are able to provide specialist staff to organise and manage the DofE Award in your school. This can be for up to 56 young people undertaking the three sections of the Award (volunteering, skills and physical). Staff would work directly with young people on a weekly basis between September and April to manage edofe accounts and sectional completion. The staff would advise young people about where they could complete the expedition section. Educational Traded Services

10 Youth Action Volunteering Enfield (YAVE) We offer a nationally recognised volunteering award scheme within the school primarily aimed at students in Years 12 and 13. This would be a direct delivery in school for one term (autumn or spring term) for 2 hours per week and manage up to 50 students engaging in a national volunteering award. The package includes-: Interview, assessment, support and guidance for each young person Access to community placements and brokerage of volunteering opportunities Direct work undertaken in the school with students registered to the volunteering award Termly briefings on outcomes and progression achieved by students Assessment and moderation of portfolios Attendance at parents evenings Annual celebration event and personalised portfolio of achievement for each student Access to V-inspired National Volunteering Award 10 Educational Traded Services 2015

11 Personalised Learning Courses We work in partnership with the Behaviour Support Service to offer a range of personalised learning programmes for students in Key Stage 3 and 4. These programmes are bespoke to the differing needs and expectations of the individual schools and students. The learning styles of individual students are considered too which is ideal for students with behaviour, attendance and / or attainment issues. Each learner is provided with a personal mentor who works with them on goal setting, problem solving and learning reflection. Each of the curriculum areas is accredited through a nationally recognised award or qualification. Educational Traded Services

12 Our personalised curriculum covers eight subject areas: Media production, film making and journalism Football and personal fitness Dance Music production and event management Introduction to catering Leadership and teamwork Staying safe - safeguarding young people media... football... dance music... catering leadership... safety health Health - emotional resilience, sex and relationships, substance use and healthy eating Please refer students through the usual channels to the Behaviour Support Service Outreach Team. 12 Educational Traded Services 2015

13 Mentoring and Student Support Our on-site one to one mentoring service provides students with bespoke personal support. This enables them to develop personal development plans that will ensure they can achieve their maximum potential in school. We can also offer on-site student support programmes for targeted groups of students to develop their life and social skills and help them engage more effectively in learning. Mentors and Student Support Workers use the internationally renowned 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers programme which inspires and motivates students by raising their aspirations and building their self-esteem and confidence. The programme helps to improve self-image, build friendships, resist peer pressure, achieve goals and overcome barriers and obstacles they may face in their lives. Upon completion of the programme young people will be more confident, focused and able to engage more effectively in education. This can be an accredited programme and participants will gain a nationally recognised qualification. Educational Traded Services

14 Accredited Learning After School Through our youth centres we can provide 20 hours of accredited learning for targeted students. This will complement interventions taking place in the school setting and contribute to raising aspirations, motivating students and ensuring they are equipped to succeed in school. The young person would attend one of the curriculum themes listed below for 2 hours per week for 10 weeks, after school or in the evening. The package includes personal action plan and each student will gain a nationally recognised award or qualification. 14 Educational Traded Services 2015

17 Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) Our PSHE curriculum offer includes the following subjects: Sex and Relationship Education Healthy living Citizenship Bullying Staying safe Conflict resolution Emotional resilience All interventions with students will be evaluated to identify the learning they have gained. This will be recorded in a report for the school and includes feedback from students and teaching staff. Where appropriate our PSHE offer can be accredited so that young people can gain a nationally recognised award or qualification. Educational Traded Services

18 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Advocacy Offer We offer an advocacy service for parents and students that result in positive areas of progression being achieved within their lives. For example this could be gaining a residential college placement. We offer the following services: 1:1 support session for students lasting 1 hour to support them to recognise their needs and wants for the future an advocate to produce a report to present at the school based annual review or any transition meetings attendance of an advocate at a school based annual review and transition meetings to support individual young people in voicing their needs and wants for their future 18 Educational Traded Services 2015
