En el instituto- Talking about school subjects, using regular verbs in the present tense, giving and justifying opinions of school subjects and teacher and talking about food and drink. La gente- Talking about activities we like/dislike, describing a friend s physical appearance and character, describing celebrities (using comparatives), talking about your daily routine and discussing nationalities. En casa- talking about where you live, describing your home (Type, size, age) and the rooms it has/doesn t have. Talking about the layout of your bedroom (prepositions) and activities you do there (stem changing verbs). Mis vacaciones- Learning to use the preterite tense to describe recent events in the past. Describing a recent holiday (where you went, who with, how, what you did), giving your opinion of the holiday and writing an extended description El tiempo libre- Saying what you do/don t do in your free time, developing descriptions with time and place, explaining your opinion of different sports and hobbies and talking about what you are going to do using the near future tense. La salud- Learning the names of the parts of the body, saying what hurts, asking for advice in the pharmacy, talking about healthy and unhealthy diets/lifestyles and explaining lifestyle changes in the past, present and future tenses. Ganarse la vida- Talking about earning and spending money, discussing future plans clothes in different countries and climates. Planning an outfit for a fancy dress party. Barcelona- Going on an imaginary trip to Barcelona. Talking about what there is to do there and choosing activities based on personal preferences. Asking for and giving directions and using a model story to write a story of your own about your trip to Barcelona using the past, present and future tenses in a creative way. Hispanoamérica- Learning about countries where Spanish is spoken, talking about daily routine and investigating the daily routine in the Hispanic world. Learning about environmental issues and what you should do to help the environment. Talking about fair trade and writing a profile of a famous Spanish speaker.

The rest of the spring term will be spent on revision, practice papers for the Listening and Reading try and why. Discussing meeting up with friends. Writing a review of a book/film and talking about new technologies (debating their use). La salud- Talking about the body and illnesses, buying food, talking about how to stay in shape (diet and exercise), learning about bad lifestyle choices and giving opinions on how to make better choices. Talking about issues facing young people (drugs, alcohol, smoking, street violence). The remaining weeks of the summer term before study leave begins will be spent on revision of vocabulary and practice papers for the Listening and Reading exams

5 Viva mi barrio!- Talking about your home (type, rooms, opinions), your neighbourhood (making comparisons between towns/cities), explaining how your town has changed over the last 50 years and how you would improve it in the future. Learning about shopping in a shopping centre (different types of shops/ advantages and disadvantages, asking for sizes and making complaints). exams and catching on/improving controlled assessments. -* Over the course of Year 10 and 11 students have to complete 4 controlled assessments (two speaking and two writing). These assessments constitute 15% each (60% total) of their final grade. The exact timing of these assessments varies depending on the group and topic that the class teacher decides to set for the assessment. As guidance students normally complete three assessments in Year 10 (roughly 1 per term) and the remaining assessment in the autumn term of Year 11. Exact assessment dates are discussed by the class teacher with the group and parents are informed of assessment dates (once fixed) by .
