1 Youth Enrichment Program About The Program The after-school Youth Enrichment Program is back to offer a variety of after-school programs. The purpose of YEP is to offer classes that are fun and exciting. The program is meant to provide opportunities for your child to learn and develop new interests and skills, as well as to socialize with new and old friends. The classes may have an educational base, but the element of fun will not be overlooked. Class descriptions are attached along with a registration form. Each class will run from 3:00 4:30pm one day per week. Snack time will be 3:00 3:15pm; snacks are to be brought from home. Pricing Checks made payable to the City of Northampton. Payment plan and financial aid are available upon request. Many scholarships are available. $85 for One Class $80 each for Two or More Classes (applies to siblings or a single child taking more than one class) Registration Procedure Registration will be held in the library on Tuesday, Jan 13, from 8:00AM to 8:30AM. Please complete both sides of the attached registration form indicating your first choice of class and alternate choice (in case your first choice is unavailable). Please read and sign our Late Pick-Up Policy and Code of Discipline Policy on the back side of the registration form. If this time is not convenient, your child may bring the completed, signed registration form and payment in an envelope marked YEP to the school office that morning. Your child will bring home a confirmation letter by Friday, January 15th. 3 Youth Enrichment Program Policies Late Pick-Up Policy It is very important that students are picked up on time. Many teachers and instructors have obligations which require them to leave at the program s end. If your child is not picked up on time, the YEP Coordinator will begin calling the individuals listed below. You will be assessed a late fee of $1.00 per minute after 4:35 PM until the time that your child is picked up. Second Offense: Your child will be asked to leave the room for ten minutes under the supervision of the coordinator. Third Offense: The child s parent/guardian will be required to pick-up their child and he/she will not be allowed to return. There will be no refund if your child is asked not to return. 5 Tuesday Arts and Crafts Mrs. Tompkins 3-5 We will explore and create art with paint, paper, clay, and natural objects. Our projects may include the technique of batik, tie dye and pointillism. Bring your imagination! Building! Building! Building! Mrs. Ramsden K-2 We will use many different building mediums such as Legos, crafts sticks, wood kits, clay, foam, plastic and even jewelry beads! You can make a keepsake box; build a truck or even a plane! How about making a necklace or bracelet with beads or just have fun with Legos. Come see what you create and how sturdy you can make it.

6 Tuesday Creative Computing Club Ms. Marks 3-5 The Creative Computing club supports students in the development of personal connections to computing by drawing upon their creativity, imagination, and interests. In the Creative Computing club, students will be introduced to Scratch, a computer programming education tool with sample projects and hands-on experiences. Students will also explore the arts and storytelling through music, design, drawing, and dance, as well as characters, scenes, and narrative. Spirit of the Heart Kids Kung Fu & Empowerment Program Morgan Kent K-5 Join us for a fun and dynamic martial arts experience that integrates self-dense, body awareness, kung fu, games, physical fitness and anti-bullying education. We practice using our mind, energy, voice and body to stay safe, get in shape, learn respect and build confidence. Morgan is an instructor at Spirit of the Heart Martial Arts and Wellness in Northampton.

7 Wednesday Kindergarten Memories Mrs. Lavallee 5 Are you feeling nostalgic for your old kindergarten days? If so, then welcome back to this after-school playtime. All centers will be available the painting easel, the listening center, housekeeping, blocks, Lego, the sand table, the light table, writing and drawing, Play-Doh, puzzles, games, Woodland Blocks and other play activities. *Note: you must be a 5th grader and willing to neaten and organize the center after you are done playing. Making Your Own Stuffed Animal Ms. Lui 1-5 Have you ever imagined an animal you ve never seen? Would you like to make it into a stuffed animal? Here s you chance! We will have bright polar fleece to make an animal from your own imagination! I like ugly dolls with horns, but we ve had bunnies, snails and geckos too. What will you make?

8 Wednesday Mini Guitar Orchestra Mr. Ricker K-5 Spend the afternoon making some joyful noise with your friends and classmates. Learn about all the different parts that make up a piece of music and play arrangements of classical and rock music on guitars with Joe Ricker, the Assistant Musical Director of the Happy Valley Guitar Orchestra. All levels welcome, guitars provided. Street Hockey Mr. Marks 2-5 Mr. Marks grew up playing goalie in hockey. But he still knows how to shoot and pass! Learn the fundamentals of hockey from passing accurately, to learning how to score a goal. Plus, if you want you can play goalie! I still have all the pads and helmet.

We break down the steps; add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements such as leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, balance and cultural awareness. Cooking Mrs. Gleason K-5 Come join us in cooking fun! Shake pudding into a dessert that will make your mouth water! We will make bird food, treats and much more. Rattle measuring spoons, cups and pans into tasty morsels. We are always making brand new recipes along with some ole favorites.
