1 POSITION DESCRIPTION HASTINGS PUBLIC SCHOOLS SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION Position Title: Youth Development and Enrichment Coordinator Immediate Supervisor s Position Title: Director of Community Education Department: Community Education FLSA Status: Eempt Bargaining Unit: Community Ed. Coordinator Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Community Education, the Youth Development and Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for working with youth, school and community groups to provide community service, learning and enrichment opportunities after school, evening and summer hours. SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plans, develops and implements all aspects of Youth Enrichment Programming: a) Develops programs to meet the varied needs for out of school time learning for youth pre-k through grade 8. b) Monitors enrollment and registration procedures for youth enrichment programs. c) Makes arrangements for site use for programs. d) Implements and coordinates payment procedures for programs. e) Prepares program summaries and reports for the District and/or Director of Community Education. f) Coordinates and provides fee assistance for qualified families in accordance with department procedures. g) Partners with other community, school, health or human service agencies in providing services, classes or activities in areas of responsibility. Coordinates and facilitates community service programming for youth: a) Organizes and supervises the work of the Youth First Planning Council at Hastings High School. b) Serves as a member of the Youth Success Team supervising the AmeriCorps Promise Fellows at Hastings Middle School. c) Develops youth service opportunities for K-4 students at all three elementary sites. d) Works with representatives from community agencies and organizations serving Hastings youth to ensure inclusion of school district students and collaboration as appropriate. e) Develops family events and activities that provide opportunities for community service, learning and enrichment. Administers and monitors program budgets for Youth Development and Enrichment programming. a) Identifies alternative funding sources or grants to assist in enhancing or epanding program services and offerings. b) Monitors, accounts for and tracks program revenues, fees and ependitures by program. c) Prepares, codes and submits purchase orders for needed supplies, materials or equipment. d) Processes and approves timesheets if needed. e) Prepares grant reports to funding sources, if applicable. Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required. a) Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, district and departmental meetings. Page 1

2 b) Keeps abreast of changing developments or trends pertaining to areas of responsibility and lifelong learning. SECTION III: WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT: Minimum education required to perform adequately in position could reasonably be attained only by completing the following: REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING (choose one) less than high school diploma High school diploma or GED. 1 year college 2 years college DEGREE INFORMATION: Type of degree: (B.S., M.A., etc.) Bachelor s Degree Major field of study or degree emphasis: Education, Community Education, Recreation or related area. 3 years college 4 years college 1st year graduate level Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job: 2nd year graduate level Concepts, principles and philosophy of lifelong learning, public education, and relationship of community Doctorate level education to K-12 programming. Knowledge of district policies and procedures concerning facility use, requirements and priorities. Basic knowledge concerning the use of computers and related software applications and general business equipment. Knowledge of community resources and community organizations within the community. Knowledge of the theories, philosophy and approaches to youth programming, service learning, evaluation, and implementation. General knowledge of district administrative policies and procedures pertinent to the activities and programs of Community Education. Required Work Eperience in Addition to Formal Education/Training: Minimum of 1 year directly related eperience in the planning and implementation of youth programming and community education programs. LICENSE/ CERTIFICATION Identify licenses/certification required upon hiring: Valid MN driver s license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Page 2

3 ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE WORK Skilled in: Leading, delegating, monitoring, evaluating and training volunteer, students and part-time support personnel. Planning, evaluating, implementing, and coordinating the delivery of programs, activities, events or services geared towards youth and enrichment. Applying district policies and implementing facility use scheduling in accordance with district priorities, procedures and requirements. Applying judgment and discretion in handling problems and issues in accordance with the policies and procedures of the District and the department. Promoting, advertising and communicating programs, services and activities. Collaborating and working closely with facilitating the planning for new events, programs, services or events. Using computers and related software applications and general office equipment, e.g., copiers, facsimiles and phones. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to echange or convey information, speak before groups and make presentations, to receive work direction, address or resolve issues/conflicts appropriately.
