2 Core Summer Instruction courses are 6 weeks in length- session 1- July 5-July 21 (please note that week 1 only of July 5 begins on a Tuesday) AND session 2 July 25-August 11. Please note that all sessions are Monday-Thursday except week 1 which begins on Tuesday June 5. Core Summer Instruction classes may be offered in the morning (AM 8:30-11:30) or afternoon (PM 12:00-3:00) pending enrollment. If you would like to register for Enrichment Courses IN ADDTION TO the core classes please select the classes using the enrichment registration form and refer to the 15 page course catalog. Registering for enrichment classes would make your child s day at Summer Academy from 8:30-3:00. Lunch is provided for full day students.

3 Course Number 1 STEM in Action! (Entering K,1,2,3) Students will explore grade appropriate STEM concepts by participating in small group experiments and design challenges. They will then test and record data to share with the class. They will then revise, or rebuild their design based on feedback and testing. 4 Course Number 2 INNOV8RZ STEM/TECH/DESIGN (Entering Grades 4,5,6) This is the place where technology and STEM meet creativity! While exploring current innovators in our world, we will tap into our own curiosity and skills in computer programming electronics, 3-D printing, soldering, and other art/craft engineering activities. Apply your natural curiosity and problem solving skills to solve interesting building problems to create. 5 Course Number 3 Extreme Science! (Entering Grades K,1,2,3,4,5) Dive in each day thrilling experiments where you will be making objects move, fly and even grow! Students will be making chemical reactions and exploring surface tension and building towers. Learn to solve problems using the engineering design process. Make catapults and learn about the scientific method by designing your own egg drop container. Come explore the wonders of science in this class. 7 Course Number 5 Course Number Become an Oceanographer! (Entering Grades K,1,2,3) There s a commotion in the ocean! Come find out about the animals causing all the commotion. Why do they live in salt water? Does salt water ever freeze? How many different types of sharks are there? Make an ocean in a bottle. Make ocean crafts and snacks. As a culminating activity, students will research an animal and make an ocean museum. 9 Course Number 7 Cool Duct Tape Projects (Entering Grades K,1,2,3,4,5) Math and Art Duct Tape Projects based on the grade level of students. Students will research, write the steps, and plan out one project per week. Possible projects include: boy/girl wallets, belts, desk sets, small purse or journal covers, hair bows of girls and neckties for boys. The class will focus on teaching children real jewelry making techniques including beading, as well as clasping necklaces and bracelets. Students will choose from a variety of materials to create pieces of jewelry that they can take home. Come join in on the fun while learning a new skill and enhancing your creativity! Use the concepts of teamwork and team sports to drive home the appropriate grade level standards of Langrage Arts, Science, and Mathematics. You will have the opportunity to integrate Physical Education skills of various team sports while refining key content specific academic standards. ALL IN!!!! 13 Course Number 11 Book Club (Entering Grades 5,6,7) Students (grades 5-7) will read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Chocolate Fever (grades 3-4). They will respond in writing and participate in enrichment activities to practice higher level reading skills. Both classes will enjoy making and eating chocolate treats! (Entering Grades 2,3,4,5,6) Students will read short stories/picture books. They will write a short script based on the stories. They will then create scenary and act out their scripts. We will record their plays on ipads using the imovie app. Reader s Theatre selections will also be used. 14 Course Number 13 Rock On Piano Class (Entering K,1,2,3,4,5,6,7) Group piano lessons are designed for beginners and experienced players. Current Music such as Rock, Hip Hop, Popular music will be featured as well as traditional and classical music. Beginners will learn basic music reading skills and piano techniques. Experienced players can tailor the lesson to their needs. 15 Course Number 14 Kindergarten Readiness (Entering Pre-K) Parma s Pre-K summer program is designed to prepare children academically and socially for a smooth transition into Kindergarten. Our mission is to provide a play-based curriculum that will incorporate Kindergarten readiness skills. This positive learning environment will help set up children for future academic success and a love of learning. Each session will include opportunities to learn through manipulative play, directed learning, problem solving, gross and fine motor activities.
