2 Core Summer Instruction courses are 6 weeks in length- session 1- July 5-July 21 (please note that week 1 only of July 5 begins on a Tuesday) AND session 2 July 25-August 11. Please note that all sessions are Monday-Thursday except week 1 which begins on Tuesday June 5. Core Summer Instruction classes may be offered in the morning (AM 8:30-11:30) or afternoon (PM 12:00-3:00) pending enrollment. If you would like to register for Enrichment Courses IN ADDTION TO the core classes please select the classes using the enrichment registration form and refer to the 15 page course catalog. Registering for enrichment classes would make your child s day at Summer Academy from 8:30-3:00. Lunch is provided for full day students.
3 Course Number 1 STEM in Action! (Entering K,1,2,3) Students will explore grade appropriate STEM concepts by participating in small group experiments and design challenges. They will then test and record data to share with the class. They will then revise, or rebuild their design based on feedback and testing. Apply your natural curiosity and problem solving skills to solve interesting building problems to create. Make catapults and learn about the scientific method by designing your own egg drop container. Come explore the wonders of science in this class. Why do they live in salt water? Does salt water ever freeze? How many different types of sharks are there? Make an ocean in a bottle. Make ocean crafts and snacks. As a culminating activity, students will research an animal and make an ocean museum. They will respond in writing and participate in enrichment activities to practice higher level reading skills. Both classes will enjoy making and eating chocolate treats! (Entering Grades 2,3,4,5,6) Students will read short stories/picture books. They will write a short script based on the stories. They will then create scenary and act out their scripts. 14 Course Number 13 Rock On Piano Class (Entering K,1,2,3,4,5,6,7) Group piano lessons are designed for beginners and experienced players. Current Music such as Rock, Hip Hop, Popular music will be featured as well as traditional and classical music. Beginners will learn basic music reading skills and piano techniques. Experienced players can tailor the lesson to their needs. Our mission is to provide a play-based curriculum that will incorporate Kindergarten readiness skills. This positive learning environment will help set up children for future academic success and a love of learning.
