1 REMOTE POWER RECEPTACLE INSTALLATION GUIDELINES For SB Trailer Units with SmartPower Option DANGER: An improperly installed remote power receptacle could lead to serious injury or death! Only a qualified electrician should perform this installation. DANGER: The remote power cable must be physically separated from the trailer s fuel lines. Fuel lines in the presents of an electrical short can result in a fire! WARNING: Take precautions to ensure the unit will not accidentally start while you are servicing the system. CAUTION: The remote power receptacle and electrical wiring must be installed in such a manner as to not interfere with the normal operation of the trailer. NOTE: The power receptacle factory installed onto the unit is the preferred mounting method. Alternative mounting methods are the responsibility of the installer. The installer is responsible for mounting the remote receptacle securely and safely onto the trailer. The installer is responsible that all electrical wiring is safely installed and all connections and grounds are made per the supplied instructions and wiring diagram. To prevent damage to the refrigeration units electric motor, the combined power cable length from the unit to the power supply, must not exceed the recommendations shown in Figure 1. The installer is responsible for installing all supplied safety labels and meeting applicable electrical codes. Thermo King Unit B Warehouse Power Supply Voltage A 75 ft. 2 ADDITIONAL UNIT GROUND WIRE - FIGURE 2 IMPORTANT: An additional ground wire is required from the Thermo King unit to the chassis of the trailer. This additional ground wire can be found attached to the rear of the high voltage box. 1. After the Thermo King unit has been installed, choose a location on the trailer s chassis to attach the additional unit ground wire. Remove any paint and debris from this area and drill the appropriate size hole. Route the ground wire to the trailer s chassis and attach it securely with appropriate (installer supplied) hardware. POWER CABLE to HIGH VOLTAGE BOX - FIGURE 2 2. Open the curbside door and remove the access cover from the high voltage box. From under the unit locate the flexible conduit at the rear of the high voltage box. Route the power cable (installer supplied) through this conduit and into the high voltage box. IMPORTANT: A water tight connection at the end of the conduit is required. 3 POWER CABLE CONNECTIONS INSIDE BOX - FIGURE 3 3. Route enough power cable into the high voltage box to make the electrical connections. Strip 12 inches (304.8 mm) of insulation to expose the four individual wires. Secure the power cable to the bottom of the high voltage box to the cable tie mount as shown. Route the three power wires to the On/Off switch, strip the wire ends and install sleeve crimps (installer supplied) firmly onto each wire. Attach the wires to the On/Off switch per the supplied electrical schematic. See Figure 5. IMPORTANT: Make sure the high voltage power wires do not rub against the low voltage ground stud inside the box! Neatly route and secure the power wires to the side of the box with the cable tie as shown. Route the ground wire from the power cable up to the high voltage ground stud, strip the wire end and install a terminal ring (installer supplied) firmly onto the wire. Attach the high voltage ground wire securely onto the high voltage ground stud. 4 REMOTE POWER RECEPTACLE SCHEMATIC - FIGURE 4 4. Attach the power cord wires from the On/Off switch to the remote power receptacle as shown in the following schematic. The installer is responsible for installing the following supplied components: The system voltage and a high voltage warning nameplate must be installed near the remote receptacle. The yellow plastic switch cover must be installed onto the On/Off switch inside the high voltage box. COMPLETING THE INSTALLATION 1. Turn the On/Off power switch inside the high voltage box to the ON position. 2. Reinstall the access cover onto the high voltage box. 3. Close and secure the curbside door. 4. Plug the correct voltage power cord into the remote power receptacle. 5. Turn the unit controls ON and operate the unit in electric standby mode. 6.
