2 Mark Your Calendars Now Lenten Tuesday Evening Time-Outs! February 24 Guest Speaker Camile Gautreaux (Parishioner, Faculty St. Jude School, Parish Confirmation Catechist) Camile Gautreaux serves as part of the faculty of Saint Jude Parochial School. He teaches middle school social studies, including the subjects of world, American, and Louisiana histories. He also assists with Youth Legislature. Camile and his wife, Stella, are devoted and active members of Saint Jude Parish, serving together as catechists in our Confirmation program. Camile also serves as a Mass Captain for weekend Masses. He and Stella are an example of strong faith to many, especially the children in their family and the ones to whom they minister. March 3 Guest Speaker Dr. Tina Holland (Parishioner, President of Our Lady of the Lake College) A native of New Jersey, Dr. Tina Holland began serving as president of Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in April of As President her objectives include broadening degree offerings, enhancing the College s physical presence, and achieving greater public awareness of the College s unique educational ministry as the only Franciscan college in the Gulf South region. Under Dr. Holland s leadership, Our Lady of the Lake College continues to respond to the need for competent, ethical professionals to lead and serve in Louisiana and beyond. She and her husband, Peter, are members of Saint Jude Parish and have enjoyed the experience of being part of our faith community. March 10 Guest Speaker Anthony Zehyoue (Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, Catholic High School of Baton Rouge) Anthony was born in Monrovia, Liberia in In the late 80s a Civil War drove his family from West Africa to the United States, where they settled in Baton Rouge. After attending McKinley Senior High School in 2003, he attended Louisiana State University beginning, graduating in the spring of 2007 with a Bachelor s Degree in Arts and Sciences and a major in history. While at LSU, Anthony was a member of the LSU football team for all four years and a member of four bowl teams including their teams defeat over Ohio State University in the All-State BCS Championship game. He earned a full scholarship and completed his Master s Degree of Art in Teaching in May of Since graduation he has been employed as a full-time instructor and coach at Catholic High School here in town and serves as a member of the Varsity Football Coaching Staff coaching the Offensive Line. Anthony is also the school s Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the entire athletic department. The fair is a weekend of fun and fellowship with family and other church members; however, it does not run alone. If we all work together, then it doesn t fall on the shoulders of just a few people. 4 Lenten Donation Bags for Haiti Mission Do something special with your family for Lent. As part of our Lenten observance, take a small bag from the back of the church and fill it together as a family to help support our Haiti Mission. Or let your children take one each to put their own money in it. Every small amount adds up and helps tremendously. This is a great way for all of us to give in Christ s name and for parents to teach their children a way to imitate Christ. Since the donation directly benefits children, your children will be able to identify with giving to another child in need. Help your children better understand the Christian way of helping the less fortunate by saying a short prayer together each time you put money into the bag. St. Jude/OLOL Blood Drive Thanks to all parishioners who participated in our February 15 th Blood Drive. Your donation of blood is a true gift of life and directly benefits St. Jude parishioners who are in need of blood. 5 Fair Book Store The 2015 St. Jude is next month and our book store needs your Gently Used books, CD s, DVD s and puzzles. Please save your donations for us. We will have book barrels in the narthex (lobby) of the church beginning in March. Thank you for your help. For Prayer Request Call our Prayer Line, or Young Adult Honduras Mission Trip Consider joining our group on a mission trip to Honduras from June 11-23,2015. The mission is sponsored by a Catholic non-profit organization, Missioners of Christ, and is open to young adults around the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Our group works in partnership with lay long-term American and Honduran missionaries, the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, the Missionaries of Charity, the Poor Clares and the Diocese of Comayagua, Honduras. The main focus of our mission is working in the impoverished mountain villages outside of Comayagua to bring Christ s message of hope and dignity to those most in need. Several preparatory sessions completed with our groups are required before attending the mission. Therefore, the Diocese is conducting an on-line survey and inviting all members of the Diocese to participate. To join the consultation, simply go to the Diocesan website at and click on the 2015 Family Synod Survey. You need not answer all of the questions for your responses to be tabulated. At the end of the survey, click the submit button and your responses will be added to those sent to the Bishops. Take a few moments to contribute to this important project.
