Behavioral Interview Questions Questions focused on discovering how you acted in specific employment-related situations The logic is that your past performance in the workplace will predict your future performance Instead of asking how you would behave, the interviewer will ask how you did behave.

Answering Behavior-style Questions Formulate stories giving examples of how you have performed at work Think CAR: What was the Challenge you were charged with at work, what Action did you take, and what was the positive end Result Write down your stories Practice your stories OUT LOUD working on conciseness, clarity, and progression to a positive end result

Your Interview Process Pre-interview research Dressing appropriately Responding to questions Asking good questions Follow-up after the interview

Questions To Ask The Interviewer I saw on your website How long have you been with the company? What do you like most about working here? What does the department hope to achieve in the next two to three years? What would be the initial top three objectives that you would like me to achieve Based on our conversation today, do you have any concerns about my ability to do the job?

Ending an Interview Ask any remaining questions Tell the interviewer about additional qualifications Respond with enthusiasm to an offer Get the correct spelling of the interviewer s name Ask when a decision will be made Shake the interviewer s hand Thank him/her

Your Interview Process Pre-interview research Dressing appropriately Responding to questions Asking good questions Follow-up after the interview

After the Interview Write down names of interviewers Include job titles List key points about the job Note questions you didn t answer well

Follow-up Letters Within 24 hours of interview One page Perfect - spelling, grammar, and appearance s, too!

Responding to a Job Offer If you get a call, be ready with questions: Job description go over it again for clarity Salary Start date and working hours Location Let him/her know of any upcoming pre-planned time off you may need for medical, vacations, etc.

Responding to a Job Offer DO NOT answer your phone if it is an inconvenient time (driving, errands, tending to children, etc). Talk only when it is quiet and you have time to think and focus. Thank caller for the offer If you need time to consider it, get back within 24 hours with your response If offer meets your needs, CONGRATULATIONS!

Key Points Interviews provide opportunity for you and employer. Learn about the company before an interview. Dress appropriately for the type of business. Practice answering common interview questions. Be sure to follow up with a thank you.
