4 APEC PRIORITIES PERU-APEC 2016 PRIORITIES APEC-WE PRIORITIES PERU APEC-WE 2016PRIORITIES FREE TRADE AND INVESTMENT EASE OF DOING BUSINESS Food Market Acces to markets Digital literacy Economic and regional Acces to capital assets Financial literacy integration Micro & SME Internationalisation Innovation and technology Mechanisms for Micro & SME Internationalisation of women entrepreneurs ECONOMIC AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION - ECOTECH Development & human capital Building to skills and knowledge. Health Leadership, voice & agency Care systems to breakdown barriers for inclusive growth Costs of Gender-based violence in the economic development 1. Care systems to breakdown barriers for inclusive growth APEC members should provide care systems to breakdown barriers for economic inclusion of women Social cultural gender rules assign exclusive responsibilities on household chores and family care which affect directly to women. Women suffer poverty of time and lack opportunities for the education, political and economic participation, among others. 3
5 2. Costs of Gender based violence in the economic development Gender based violence (GV) cause loss of productivity in female labor force. Womenvictimsof GV suffer great discrimination in their workplace and lack of personal productivity and laboral absence which cause overcost that could be avoid whith some prevention measures. GV is a strong barrier for women s economic integration and their economies, including economic development in APEC Region. 3. Financial literacy for access to capital Financial literacy allows women to know the financial system, its services, benefits and risks. In addition, it is a facilitator of the culture of saving and planning income and expenses. For women, it is often difficult to access the financial system and its services, making it difficult to enter the market of goods and services; as well as its entrepreneurial potential and generating wealth. It is an instrument that gives women a series skills and abilities that enhance their potential market insertion 4
6 4. Digital literacy for economic inclusion Access to Internet and information technology, IT, and the knowledge required for use, it is essential for women to be inserted in national and global markets with competitive advantages that allow them to sell their products, purchase inputs, and overall, make businesses more successful. 5. Mechanisms for Micro & SME Internationalisation of women entrepreneurs Women in APEC member economies are focused on the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises but one of the main barriers / obstacles women face SMEs are lack of ownership of assets to obtain credit. They also need access to business services market for efficient participation in open markets and globalization 5
7 5. Mechanisms for Micro & SME Internationalisation of women entrepreneurs In the Asia-Pacific region about 600 million women are part of the female workforce. Most of them are concentrated formal or informal in SMEs. SME s: indonesian women, women in charge of South Korean enterprises; China: 20% of women own SME Perú: 70% of male and 30% of female own SME Gender gap in APEC economies is explained by lack of access of women entrepreneurs to financial services as well as credit. Muchas Gracias! Welcome to Peru see you next year! 6
