6 Tickets for your journey with Stockholm Public Transport (SL) In order to travel with the SL services you will of course need a ticket. There are tickets and travel cards for short and longer periods of time. Nearly all tickets are loaded on an SL Access card, which is an electronic smart card. You need to pay a fee of 20 SEK for the card itself, but you can re-use your card during future visits to Stockholm. There are single use travel cards with zone tickets valid for 1 or 2 hours depending on how many zones you travel in. There are also single use travel cards for 24 or 72 hours. Touch in when you travel Place your travel card or SL Access card on the card reader at the automatic barriers in the metro and at the commuter train stations and the blue card readers on board the buses. Better to buy in advance It is always cheaper to buy prepaid tickets and the longer the period of validity of the ticket, the cheaper it will be. If you are just visiting temporarily the single use travel cards are perfect for you. Tickets and travel cards are sold via our agents, at the SL Center, at commuter railway stations and some kiosks/shops like Pressbyrån. Some tickets can also be bought at the metro barriers. There are also ticket machines at most metro and commuter railway stations, as well as in a number of other locations. You can even buy a zone ticket which is sent as a text message to your mobile phone (you will have to register for this service). You cannot purchase a ticket onboard the buses It is your responsibility as a passenger to ensure that you have a valid ticket. Failure to show on demand a valid ticket will render a penalty fare of SEK Recommended Traveling Apps for your mobile phone iphone: Res i STHLM (itunes.apple.com/se/app/res-i-sthlm/) Android: STHLM Traveling (play.google.com/store/apps/ ) Windows: Stockholm Travel (
7 Regional challenges to discuss 1 Oslo Regional commitment for a regional plan by participation of stakeholders A joint regional plan for land use and transportation is about to be completed for the two counties Oslo and Akershus. They comprise together, the major part of the capital city. It consists of 23 municipalities including Oslo City. All have land use planning powers under the Planning and Building Act. To make a binding regional plan require a commitment to the strategies in the plan. The presentation will focus on the urban/rural challenges and how information and participation is organized throughout the process. This presentation is very much from a work in progress. 2 Gothenburg Defining the elephant How do we keep a holistic view in regional planning in mind and how do we communicate it to other stakeholders and citizens? 3 Reykjavik Binding regional plan for the Reykjavik area without a formal regional government The new regional planning proposal 2040 for Reykjavík area. A strategic approach or legally binding land use plan? The unique situation in Reykjavík area, where it is mandatory to have legally binding regional plan but with no formal regional government in place. The lack of urban policy at the state level and the continuous conflict between the state and the capital area for example regarding transportation planning and support to public transportation and location of the domestic airport. 4 Skåne Who really cares about the Strategies for the polycentric Skåne? The idea of a Structural Picture of Skåne was first put forward almost ten years ago, based on a desire for a deeper discussion on planning and urban development at a regional level. The insight that physical planning is of considerable importance to the region's development has been strengthened since then. Without a legislated mandate, we have tested and challenged ourselves regarding the regional dimension of physical planning. In the fall of 2013 the Strategies for the polycentric Skåne was adopted by Region Skåne and the 33 municipalities. We know what we want, how do we get there and how do we get others to act with us? How can this be a tool for other stakeholders in their priorities? 5 Helsinki Learning how to do better plans and implementing the good ideas in them Successful planning needs knowledge and active work in the beginning and in the middle of the process but also afterwards. We are usually pretty good at planning and doing surveys beforehand. Active follow up that leads to reasoned decision making and active implementation in regional level are on the contrary rarely handled very well. Thoughts and experiences on how to become even better planner in this respect. 6 Stockholm How to manage that investment leads to social and environmental sustainability? Sustainable urban development should result in breaking the socio-economic residential segregation, both on the city and regional level. There is an urgent need to build new dwellings and houses in the region. Are the so called distressed areas included in the municipal and regional planning and managing of the housing supply? What is a desirable distribution of a sustainable city and region? And how can we manage that future investment in housing and infrastructure leads to social and environmental sustainability?
