1 This is to invite you to join the South Carolina HIV AIDS Council Red Ribbon Walk for Life walk to benefit HIV Prevention and Treatment. The state of South Carolina ranks 6th in the nation regarding the rate of HIV infection. Despite progress, there are over 17,000 citizens reported to be living with HIV infection (including AIDS) in South Carolina. The Year 2014 marks the 20th year history of our work throughout the community, state, and nation. The South Carolina HIV AIDS Council (SCHAC) has received numerous awards, including nomination as a CNN-Hero (2008), featured on CNN s: Black In America (2009), three Excellence in Prevention and Innovative Strategies awards from the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC), just to name a few. SCHAC maintains a vital and active role in advocacy efforts that ensure persons living with HIV/AIDS gain greater access to medications and treatment. Finally, SCHAC maintains preventive measures to progressively stop the spread of HIV infection. The Red Ribbon Walk for Life provides an opportunity to unite our community while raising funds to not only help those affected by the disease but to prevent others from becoming infected. Your support will help us reach our goal! On Saturday, September 13, 2014, we anticipate over 1,000 walkers will come out to support our cause.
