We would like to show how cooperation between specialists from different disciplines in different countries works in the best possible way, and which concrete challenges wait in the dynamic environment of an international plant project and how they can be mastered. 2 Competitive Edge STEERING Construction Projects securely and successfully The postgraduate MEng Program International Construction Project Management gives professionals the specific theoretical knowledge, the tools and practical experience to excel in the dynamic field of construction business. Increasing complexity within construction projects, new challenges in team-leadership and communication are only a few obstacles a construction project manager faces day to day. In order to meet the demands of this fast moving and fast changing environment it is inevitable to implement alternative, agile project management methods. Therefore a substantial goal of this program is to supply graduates with transferable skills and give them a profound understanding of the complexity of international construction projects. This program will challenge its students to question their current thinking and the practices adopted in the face of a rapidly changing global construction industry, and develop their abilities to be innovative and creative in solving unique problems. The individual modules are designed to provide the base for competent, future oriented and communication driven construction project management. Furthermore participants will also have the opportunity to become part of a unique network of experts. The interdisciplinary part-time MEng Program is offered by the. Tailor-made, international workshops are offered to gain in-depth knowledge and first-hand experience in international construction projects. VIENNA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY Technology for People Developing Scientific Excellence and Enhancing Comprehensive Competence The located in the heart of Europe and Vienna is the largest Austrian institution in research and education within the areas of technology and natural sciences. Even though the beginnings of TU Vienna reach back nearly 200 years research, teaching, and learning are state-of-the-art. For years the has been successfully offering outstanding Postgraduate Programs. This success is also based on the top scientific and economic qualifications of its faculty. In this Master Program, it is STRABAG s aim to show the students how to put knowledge into practice when working on highly specialized international projects and how it is possible to establish an interdisciplinary working environment among experts from various different fields. On-the-job training therefore begins already during the period of study. Practitioners from the construction industry develop concepts, demonstrate problems from the real world of construction, and work together with the students to come up with solutions. Subject to modification In the face of global competition the focus on prospective projects requests more skills like qualification, competency and know-how as well as innovative and problem solving capacity. The current MEng Program offers prospective managers the opportunity to acquire specialized technical, economic, financial, legal and general knowledge and to prepare for future challenges as competent construction project managers. 4 PROGRAM OBJECTIVES/GOALS With the MEng Program the participants acquire knowledge and competence for international construction project management tools, processes and methodologies, organizing and managing international construction projects, forming multi-national project teams TARGET GROUP This MEng program is designed to meet the needs of individuals in construction and construction related businesses (e.g. engineering, financing, economy, construction law, etc.), who want to further their understanding and skills in managing construction projects on an international level. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Admission will be granted to individuals holding an internationally recognized degree in a relevant area of specialization and at least three years of work experience and a good knowledge of English. Individuals holding equivalent educational and professional qualifications may also be admitted. LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION English FINAL DEGREE The MEng Program is concluded by writing a Master s Thesis. Achievement of the final degree Master of Engineering (MEng) granted by the. DURATION The part-time program is presented in modules and takes four semesters (2 years). WORKSHOPS Two international workshops (in London and Istanbul) are an essential part of this MEng Program. Within the scope are international real estate and infrastructure projects. They ensure the transfer of essential background information from the specific region, and give the unique opportunity to establish contacts with local businesses. FACULTY Internationally renowned experts are members of this highly acclaimed faculty, based on their sound interdisciplinary specialist knowledge and / or on their extensive practical experience in international construction project management. Successful construction project management depends on very specific skills. Whether we may call it science or art, it is mainly the practical experience we have to pass on to our young colleagues. Lecturers with a broad range of professional experience and rich international background will present their knowledge and discuss real business cases with our students; but also the students will be invited to contribute their topics and views. The international workshops are planned in Istanbul and London. DURATION AND TIME SCHEDULE The part-time program is presented in nine modules and two international workshops. A module is generally presented within 6 days (Mon Sat), and a workshop within three days (Wed Fri). Sunday is recommended travel day, as lectures start on Monday at 9:00 am.
