1 PowerPoint 2010 Project Three Assignment Sheet In this project you will create an interactive PowerPoint presentation for your students to review and reinforce curriculum concepts. Your presentation will consist of a title slide, a slide with game instructions, five slides with questions and four possible answers for each, five answer slides, a "try again" slide, and an ending slide. Your presentation will consist of fourteen slides. In this project you will be introduced to these new steps: modifying masters (pp ) inserting and modifying shapes (pp ) editing and duplicating shapes (pp ) aligning and grouping objects (pp ) changing master text indents (pp ) copying and pasting a slide (Office p. 9) adding action buttons (pp ) Getting Started Make a list of five questions with four possible answers for each question. Note: The answers should be limited to one or two words due to limited space on the slide. Slide One: Title Slide 1. Open PowerPoint Click in the Title text placeholder and enter the title of your presentation (Example: Millionaire Game). Click in the Subtitle text placeholder and type your name. 3. Click the Design tab and select a Slide Design in the Themes group. Using what you have learned from previous projects, create the title slide using SmartArt, WordArt, clip art and/or other formatting features to design the slide. 4. Click the Save button on the Quick Access toolbar or press Ctrl+S. Slide Two: Game Instructions 5. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon. Click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group and click the Title and Content slide layout. (Review pp in the text.) 6. Type INSTRUCTIONS in the Title text placeholder. 2 7. In the Subtitle text placeholder, type the instructions for the game. You can use or adapt the following instructions for the age-level of your students. After reading the question, review the four possible answers and choose which answer you believe is correct. If your selection is incorrect, you will be given the opportunity to try again. If your selection is correct, the next question will appear. 8. To change the font size in either placeholder, select the text. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon and click the Increase or Decrease Font Size button in the Font group to change the font size. You can also highlight the text and press Ctrl+[ or Ctrl+] to quickly increase or decrease text size in a text box. (Review pp. 6-7.) 9. Press Ctrl+S to save. Slide Three: Question 1 Slide (Refer to the Question and Answer Slide Design example at the end of this document.) Creating a Slide Master (pp ) Note: The changes made on a Slide Master will be reflected on the slides once you return to the Normal view. 10. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon and click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group and click the Blank layout. 11. Click the View tab and click Slide Master in the Presentation Views group. If it is not already selected, click the Blank slide layout in the left pane. 12. Delete the Footer placeholders at the bottom of the slide by clicking on the border of each one and pressing the Delete key on the keyboard. 13. Click the Background Styles list arrow in the Background group and select a color. You can also click the Background Styles list arrow and select Format Background. Click Fill in the left pane and click Solid Fill or Gradient. Click the list arrow next to Color and select a color. Click Close. 14. Press Ctrl+S to save but do not close the Slide Master. Adding Rounded Rectangle Shapes to the Slide Master (pp ) 15. Large Rounded Rectangle for the Background: In the Blank slide layout on the Slide Master, click the Insert tab. Click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group and click the rounded rectangle. Move the pointer to the upper left-hand corner where you want the rounded rectangle to begin. Hold down the mouse button and drag diagonally down and to the right to draw the rounded rectangle so it almost completely fills the slide, leaving approximately 1/4 inch around the shape. Let go of the mouse button. Refer to the example at the end of this document. Project 3: Microsoft PowerPoint

3 16. Click on the rounded rectangle shape and click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Shape Fill list arrow and select a color or gradient. Click the Shape Outline list arrow and select a color. Click the Shape Outline list arrow again and select Weight. Select a weight. 17. Press Ctrl+S to save but do not close the Slide Master. 18. Small Rounded Rectangle for the Question Placeholder: Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group and click the rounded rectangle. Draw a rounded rectangle in the top half of the first rounded rectangle leaving about 1/4 inch around the shape. Click on the rounded rectangle shape. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Shape Fill list arrow and select a color. Refer to the example at the end of this document. 19. Click on the rounded rectangle shape again. Click the Shape Outline list arrow and select a color. Click the Shape Outline list arrow and click Weight. Select a weight. 20. Press Ctrl+S to save but do not close the Slide Master. Adding and Duplicating a Rectangle Shape (pp ) 21. Small Rectangle for the Answer Placeholder: Click the Insert tab. Click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group and click the rectangle. Draw a rectangle which is approximately one-inch high and three inches wide to the left and below the rounded rectangle. Refer to the example at the end of this document. 22. Click on the rectangle and click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Shape Fill list arrow and the Shape Outline list arrow in the Shape Styles group. Add Shape Fill and Shape Outline colors and a weight of your choice. 23. Duplicating a Shape (pp ): To duplicate the rectangle shape, click on the shape, hold down the [Ctrl] key and drag from the border of the rectangle shape to the right. Release the [Ctrl] key. 24. Selecting Both Shapes: Click the first rectangle. Hold down the [Shift] key and click the second rectangle. This will select both rectangles. Release the [Shift] key. To duplicate the rectangle shapes, hold down the [Ctrl] key and drag the rectangle shapes below these two shapes. Release the [Ctrl] key. 25. Moving Shapes: The shapes should be aligned. If not, you can click on a shape and use the Arrow keys on the keyboard to move the shape up, down, left, or right. 26. Press Ctrl+S to save but do not close the Slide Master. Adding a Diamond Shape and Aligning Objects (pp ) Project 3: Microsoft PowerPoint

4 27. Diamond: Click the Insert tab and click the Shapes list arrow. Click the Diamond in the Flow Chart options (the third one in the top row) and draw a diamond to be placed at the left center of the question placeholder. Refer to the example at the end of this document. 28. Click on the diamond and click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Shape Fill list arrow and Shape Outline list arrow to select colors and Shape Outline weight. To duplicate the diamond shape, hold down the [Ctrl] key and drag from the border of the diamond shape to the right center of the question placeholder. Release the [Ctrl] key. 29. Aligning Objects at the Top: Click on the diamond at the left. Hold down the [Shift] key and click the diamond at the right. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group click the Align list arrow and select Align Top. 30. Press Ctrl+S to save but do not close the Slide Master. Inserting a Text Box (pp ) 31. Inserting A, B, C, D on the Answer Placeholders: Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Click the Text Box button in the Text group. Drag a text box on the left side of the first answer placeholder large enough for one letter to be typed in the textbox. The text box should be centered top to bottom in the placeholder. See the example at the end of this document. 32. To change the font, font size, font color, or to add Bold or Italic, click the Home tab on the Ribbon and make the changes in the Font group. Type "A." (A and a period) in the text box. If it doesn't fit, click on the outline of the text box and drag the right sizing handle to make the box wider. 33. To duplicate the text box with the "A.", hold down the [Ctrl] key and drag the border of the text box to the answer placeholder to the right. Release the [Ctrl] key. Change the text to "B." 34. Click on one of the text boxes. Hold down the [Shift] key and click on the other text box. To duplicate these two text boxes, hold down the [Ctrl] key and drag from the border of one of the text boxes to the bottom two answer placeholders. Type "C." and "D." in their respective text boxes. If necessary, move the boxes so the letters are aligned vertically and horizontally. 35. Press Ctrl+S to save but do not close the Slide Master. Grouping Objects (pp ) 36. Click on the background rectangle and click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Select list arrow in the Editing group. Click Select All. Click the Arrange list arrow in the Drawing group and select Group. This will group all of the objects together as one object. Project 3: Microsoft PowerPoint

5 37. Press Ctrl+S to save. Closing the Slide Master View (pp ) 38. Click the Normal button on the status bar to close the Slide Master view. 39. Press Ctrl+S to save. Slides Three through Twelve: Creating the Question and Answer Slides (Refer to the Question Slide example at the end of this document.) Showing the Ruler and Changing the Text Indents (pp ) 40. Adding a Question: Click on Slide Three in the left pane to select it. Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Click Text Box in the Text group. Drag the text box in the center of the question placeholder and enter the question number. Press the Tab key. Type the first question. 41. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon. Change the font size in the Font group to a minimum of 24 point so viewers can easily read the text. 42. Hanging Indent: Click the View tab. Click Ruler in the Show group. Drag the lower triangle (the Hanging Indent) on the Ruler one-half inch to the right to create a hanging indent. Hanging Indent Marker 43. Adding the Four Answers: Click the Insert tab. Click Text Box in the Text group. Drag a text box to the left center of the first answer placeholder. Type the first possible answer. Select the text and change the font size to a minimum of 24 point. Refer to the Question Slide example at the end of this document. 44. Repeat these instructions for the other three possible answers. Click on the outline of the text box and use the arrow keys to align the answers in the rectangles. 45. Press Ctrl+S to save. Copying the Question Slide to Create the Answer Slides (Office p. 9) 46. Select Slide Three in the left pane. Click the Home tab. Click on the Copy list arrow in the Clipboard group and select Copy. Click below Slide Three in the Slides tab. Click the Paste list arrow in the Clipboard group and select Use Destination Theme. This will create a copy of the Question 1 slide. This slide will now become the Answer slide for Question 1. 6 Copying the Question and Answer Slides (Office p. 9) 47. Click the Question slide (Slide Three) in the left pane. Click the Home tab. Click the Copy list arrow in the Clipboard group and select Copy, or you can press Ctrl+C. Click after Slide 4 (the Question 1 answer slide) and select Paste in the Clipboard group or press Ctrl+V. This slide will now become the Question slide for the next question. 48. Click the text placeholder on the Question 2 slide. Delete the question and type your next question number and question. Note: Remember to press the Tab key after the question number before typing the new question. 49. Click in the text placeholder with the first answer, delete the text, and type the first possible answer for this question. Repeat these steps to enter the other three possible answers for this question. 50. Press Ctrl+S to save. 51. Click the Question slide that you just completed on the left pane. Click the Home tab. Click Copy in the Clipboard group or Ctrl+C to create a copy of the Question slide. Click below the last slide in the Slides tab. Click Paste in the Clipboard group or Ctrl+V. This slide will now become the Answer slide for this question. 52. Repeat these steps until you have a total of five Question slides and five Answer slides. 53. Press Ctrl+S after each designed slide to save. Creating Slide Thirteen: the Ending Slide 54. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon. Click the New Slide list arrow and select the Title Only layout. 55. Design the Ending slide by using SmartArt, WordArt, and/or clip art. You can type statements such as, "Great Job!" or "Thank you for playing!" 56. Press Ctrl+S to save. Creating Slide Fourteen: the "Try Again" Slide (Refer to the "Try Again" Slide example at the end of this document.) 57. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon. Click the New Slide list arrow and click the Title Only layout. 58. Design the "Try Again" slide using SmartArt or WordArt. Note: Students will be sent to the "Try Again" slide if they select the incorrect answer. 59. Press Ctrl+S to save. Project 3: Microsoft PowerPoint

7 Adding an Action Button to the "Try Again" Slide (pp ) 60. Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group. In the Action Buttons shapes, select a button shape. Drag diagonally down and to the right to draw the shape of the action button. 61. When the Action Settings dialog box opens, click the Hyperlink To list arrow and select Last Slide Viewed. Click OK. 62. Click on the action button. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab and in the Shape Styles group click the Shape Fill list arrow and Shape Outline list arrow to select colors. Note: To change the Action Settings, click the Insert tab and click Action in the Links group. 63. Press Ctrl+S to save. Adding Action Buttons to Question Slides (pp ) 64. Select the Question One slide (Slide 3) in the left pane. 65. For the Correct Answer: Click the Insert tab. Click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group. In the Action Buttons shapes, click the Blank shape. This is the shape with no graphic on it. 66. Drag the shape over the entire correct answer placeholder. A dialog box will open. Click the Hyperlink To list arrow and select Next Slide. Click OK. 67. Right-click on the action button. Select Format Shape. Select Fill in the left pane. Drag the Transparency slider to 100%. Click Close. With the action button still selected, click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Shape Outline list arrow in the Shapes Style group and select No Outline. Note: When this shape is clicked, it will go to the Answer slide for this question. 68. Press Ctrl+S to save. 69. For the Incorrect Answers: Click the Insert tab. Click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group. In the Action Buttons shapes, click the Blank shape again. 70. Drag the button over the entire rectangle of the first incorrect answer on the slide. A dialog box will open. Click the Hyperlink To list arrow and select Slide. Select Slide 14 which is the "Try Again" slide. Click OK. Click OK again. Note: When this shape is clicked, it will go to the "Try Again" slide. 71. Right-click on the action button. Select Format Shape. Select Fill in the left pane. Select Solid Fill and choose a color. Drag the Transparency slider to 100%. Click Close. With the action button still selected, click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Shape Outline list arrow in the Shapes Style group and select No Outline. Project 3: Microsoft PowerPoint

8 72. To duplicate this action button for the other two incorrect answers, click on the action button and press Ctrl+D. Drag the action button or use the up, down, left, right arrow keys to move the action button to the next incorrect answer. Follow the same instructions to create the action button for the last incorrect answer. 73. Press Ctrl+S to save. 74. Follow these same steps to add action buttons to each of the other four question slides. Adding a Highlight Button on the Answer Slides 75. Click the first "Answer" slide (Slide Four) in the left pane. 76. Click the Insert tab. Click the Shapes list arrow and click the rectangle shape. Draw the shape over the entire rectangle of the correct answer placeholder. Click on the shape. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Shape Fill list arrow and click a bright color. Note: This color will highlight the correct answer. Refer to the Answer Slide with Highlighted Answer example at the end of this document. 77. Add an animation effect to this rectangle shape by clicking the Animations tab and select Appear in the Animation group. 78. Click Animation Pane in the Advanced Animation group. In the Animation Pane, click the list arrow next to the animation object (Rectangle). See diagram to the right. Click Start With Previous. Click the list arrow next to the animation object again and click Timing. Set the Delay to 1.5 seconds. Click OK. 79. Close the Animation Pane. 80. Press Ctrl+S to save. Copying and Pasting the Highlight Button Animation Object 81. Click on the highlight rectangle you just drew. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click Send to Back. 82. Click on the highlight rectangle again. Click the Home tab. Click Copy in the Clipboard group. Note: You will paste this rectangle over the correct answers on all the other "Answer" slides. 83. Click on the next Answer slide in the left pane. Click the Home tab and click the Paste list arrow in the Clipboard group and select Use Destination Theme. Move the rectangle so it covers the correct answer. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group click Send to Back. Note: To nudge the rectangle up, down, left or right, hold down the [Ctrl] key and press the arrow keys on the computer keyboard. Project 3: Microsoft PowerPoint

9 84. Repeat Steps 82 and 83 until all the Answer slides have the rectangle highlighting the correct answer. 85. Press Ctrl+S to save. Adding Animation Effects 86. Optional: Add animation effects to Slides One, Two, and Thirteen. Note: Do not add animation to Slide Fourteen which is the "Try Again" slide. Press Ctrl+S to save. 87. Optional: Add custom animation to the Question slides. Note: Do not add animation to the Answer slides. Press Ctrl+S to save. 88. Press Ctrl+S to save. Evaluating the Slide Show 89. Click the Slide Show tab on the Ribbon. Click From Beginning in the Start Slide Show group to check that action buttons connect to the correct slides. To edit action buttons, click the Insert tab and click Action in the Links group, or right-click on the action button and select Edit Hyperlink. 90. Check animation effects to make certain they are in the correct order. To reorder animation effects, click on the object to be reordered. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab. Click the Move Earlier or Move Later buttons in the Reorder Animation section of the Timing group to reorder the animations. 91. Check the action button on the "Try Again" slide to make certain it returns to the last slide viewed. 92. Press Ctrl+S to save. 93. Save and Upload.
