2 How it works The sprint is a five-day process for answering critical business questions through design, prototyping, and testing ideas with customers. A successful sprint will deliver a variety of valuable outputs; prototypes, photos, video, notes and social collateral (where appropriate). These can be shared with your wider team, making sure that the momentum created continues once the sprint is over. 3 Day 1: Unpack Dive head-first into the problem at hand, defining objectives of the sprint, key risks, resources and value proposition. The first day is dedicated to getting to know one another, learning where everyone s strengths lie, unpacking the problem, and most importantly defining what we want to achieve from our time together. A successful sprint depends upon everyone involved having a deep understanding of the scope of the challenge and the process of the sprint, and deciding what you want to achieve by the end of the five days. Making this clear today ensures the rest of the week adds value, and answers the important questions. Introductions and Sprint Start We ll kick off the sprint with our house rules and sprint values, and get underway with a fun session to break the ice. Exploration Q&A We ll explore the problem faced by your users so that we can understand the scale of the potential opportunity. We ll spend a large part of the day ensuring that the sprint team starts down a road to solving the right problem. User Stories Together we ll identify the actors within the journey and clearly define our future users. Define the problem faced by your existing, or potentially new, users. Clear understanding of the sprint goals. Create concise user stories to refer back to throughout the week.

4 Day 2: Sketch Be inspired, and inspire. Day 2 is all about generating potential solutions in a positive environment; free from criticism, or worry around feasibility. By the end of the day we will have a number of ideas sketched out ready to be evaluated. We ll start the day by looking at existing solutions that we know work well; from a wide range of fields. Then it s time to apply that critical thinking to our problem. Having the freedom to generate ideas without worrying about the specifics leads to innovative solutions that may not have been thought of or voiced before. With no fear of criticism, creativity is at its peak. Remix and Improve Lightning demos Great innovation is built on existing ideas. We ll gather the best of the best and present as 3 minute lightning presentations, to inspire our thinking and evaluate competitor products. Crazy 8 s Quick fire sketches, designed to help you turn your research and growing knowledge into big ideas. 8 minute rounds to come up with 8 ideas each time. 3 Panel Storyboards Time to turn the best of your ideas into real world solutions. This activity will take the wealth of ideas we will have come up with, and turn them into feasible solutions that we can test. Examples of successful solutions from which to take inspiration. A list of possible solutions, with the best ones highlighted. Mind-maps exploring the possible solutions. A chosen idea to explore further on Day 3.

5 Day 3: Decide Coming into Day 3 we ll have a clear sprint goal, an inspired and well informed sprint team and dozens of potential features to include and ideas about how to approach designing your new product. Today s most important task will be to make the tough decisions that narrow the focus for the rest of the sprint. We ll funnel solution ideas, ensuring feasibility and, using our years of product development experience, guide you to select the ones that represent the biggest opportunity for you. It s normal to want to test everything but we need to refine our list and start sketching clear designs to empower us in Day 4. Selecting the right idea to go forward with is an important decision that shapes the final two days of the sprint; what we prototype and what we learn from testing with users. Share and decide We ll reveal our big ideas, debate, discuss and evaluate feasibility before making a decision about which one to take forward to prototype. Storyboarding Using everything you ve learnt and decided so far in the sprint, it s time to turn the selected idea into a detailed solution. This group activity will allow the team to focus on the detail of each step the user will take. UI/UX sketches Decision on what is going to be prototyped Storyboard for the prototype on Day 4

6 Day 4: Prototype Build a prototype that can be trialed with existing or potential users to test the assumptions we identified on Day 3. To test our idea and approach with users, we ll need a prototype. It s important that the prototype is useable, but it doesn t need to be fully functional to test the idea. We ll use industry standard techniques to create a prototype in just one day - no code, just an easy to use facade. Coupled with a plan of action for testing with people and collecting feedback, we will ensure you capture every bit of valuable insight from users. Prototyping Workshop Develop the skills within the team to create a simple prototype, showcasing a variety of techniques and approaches to Prototyping Applying your newly honed skills to the detailed storyboard we created on Day 3, we ll make a prototype of your idea. The prototype will focus on helping you to test the sprint goals, and quickly realise the value of the sprint intensity. Plan and Test Run the Tests We ll test our prototype within the team, develop a test plan to get the most useful feedback when we put our idea into the hands of users on Day 5. Prototype software training A prototype User testing plan

7 Day 5: Test On our final sprint day, we ll test the prototype with users, and learn whether this is the right approach based on their feedback. By the end of the day we will have tested the prototype, collected and evaluated responses. We ll end the sprint week with a plan for next steps, including potential product iterations. One of the bravest next steps might be to stop completely, and we ll explore what failing fast really means to this product idea and your organisation. Nothing beats real people using what you ve created. Talking to potential users of your new product at this early stage will allow you to make huge strides forward in your understanding. If you re onto something this will be a very exciting day. If it s back to the drawing board, you can celebrate the fact that you learnt lots without wasting valuable time, money and energy. Prototype Testing Today s the day that we ll run sessions with users to test our prototype and gather valuable feedback. We ll learn what people really think of our product, just days after we began work. Feedback Review We ll review and evaluate the data we ve collected and discuss what it means for the future of your product. Next Steps Planning Together we ll discuss the options for next steps. User testing results Presentation of findings Attendee feedback Next steps plan
