When outside temperatures rise above 85 F, inside temperatures in non-conditioned and partially conditioned spaces can reach upwards of 130 F (55 C) near the ceiling lighting fixtures. 4 High Temperatures? No Worries! Lithonia Lighting partnered with Advance to develop T5HO Cool Running Technology, an innovative thermal design system to reduce ballast operating temperature. To improve thermal performance, T5HO Cool Running Technology optimizes three key elements as part of its design. EFFICIENCY: Less heat is generated around components and trapped by the fixture. CONDUCTION: Heat is transported away quickly from temperature sensitive components. CONVECTION: Waste heat is more efficiently dissipated away from fixture to surroundings. Using patent-pending T5HO Cool Running Technology, the I-BEAM fixture maintains UL/C-UL safety standards and is listed and labeled for ambient temperatures up to 65 C. Plus, it is backed by an industry leading five-year ballast warranty from Advance at 55 C, and three-year warranty at 65 C. 6 Choosing the Right Lamp Lithonia Lighting T8 and T5HO fluorescent fixtures are designed to provide acceptable light output over a wide temperature range. 8 EPAct 2005 The Energy Policy Act of 2005 provides for a tax deduction up to $1.80/sf for buildings that outperform the ASHRAE/IESNA power density limits by 50%. System-specific deductions are available for interior lighting, HVAC and building envelope- each system up to $0.60/sf deduction. The system-specific deduction for lighting is available for interior lighting systems that are substantially lower than the lighting requirements for the energy standard. DEDUCTION $0.30/square foot $0.60/square foot POWER DENSITY 25% below Standard 40% below Standard Lighting systems that result in power density between 25% and 40% reduction qualify for a deduction determined on a sliding scale between $0.30/sf and $0.60/sf. Certain light level and lighting control requirements must also be met. Note: Warehouses must outperform the standard by 50% and qualify only for a $0.60/sf deduction. Per fixture tax deduction for I-BEAM lighting with a 25 spacing up to $375.00, subject to a cap. The deduction cannot exceed the capitol expenditure for the energy efficient lighting system and will reduce the cost basis of the equipment for depreciation purposes.
