6 ABOUT I started making furniture professionally in 1986 here in Roberts Creek, British Columbia, where I have lived for many years. I operated portable sawmills for about a dozen years and always wanted to make something with all of that beautiful lumber going through my hands. Now, in the workshop I built in 1996, I design and build heritage furniture with the woods that grow on the local mountains. I also utilize hardwoods that grow in the eastern part of the continent. I have always had a bent for mechanical things, which shows in the equipment I use in my shop. I have built or modified almost every major tool that I use. I started by building a computer controlled router (my gizmo ) and moved on to a variety of sanders including a wide belt sander. Jigs are a common item in the shop because I like to work so often with curves and difficult joinery. I am self-taught as a furniture builder with lots of help from experimentation, observation, repairs to old furniture, and most especially Fine Woodworking magazine. When I was growing up I never paid much attention to furniture. Now when I go into a different house or setting I can sometimes be caught looking under the pieces of furniture to see the details of how they were made and how they are standing up to use. My philosophy in constructing furniture is to build it to serve generations. Much of my furniture design incorporates mortise and tenon joinery, the standard in high quality furniture construction, which withstands changes in humidity. My philosophy of life is to leave a small footprint on the planet, and so I can frequently be found pedaling my mountain bike around the Sunshine Coast where I live. 8 CEDAR DINING CHAIR This outdoor dining chair has been designed to withstand all weather, will not collect water in the rain and is stackable (inverted). The joinery is mortise and tenon with waterproof glue. It is very comfortable and will bring you years of service with a non-peeling oil finish that brings out the beauty of the wood. 9 CRAFTSMAN CHAIR The Craftsman chair is Tim s version of a favoured old one which he found exceptionally comfortable. The array of spindles provides good support for the back while the stretchers under the seat are arranged so as not to restrict leg positions. Also available without stretchers. Joinery is mortise and tenon. Finishing choices are stained and lacquered or a clear lacquer finish. Arms optional and the seat can be carved, as shown, flat or upholstered. 10 GARLAND CHAIR This chair is noted for it s comfort, elegance and support. It has a fairly high back incorporating steam bent slats that give lumbar support while running well below the seat. The slats flex as you move. The seat is available flat for a tie-on cushion, dished or upholstered. Mortise and tenon joinery throughout. 11 LARGE SHELL CHAIR The Large Shell dining chair is a comfortable, original design. It s clean, modern esthetic is unobtrusive in a room. The back has an inlaid shell design on the rail as well as two accents between the back splats. Joinery is mortise and tenon. Finishing choices are stained and lacquered or a clear lacquer finish. 12 LEAF CHAIR The Leaf dining chair is named for the pierced leaf design in the crest rail. The curve of the crest rail combined with the curve of the back splat makes this chair comfortable for extended sitting. This original design made from heavier pieces of wood blends well with a stout dining table. Joinery is mortise and tenon. Finishing choices are stained and lacquered or a clear lacquer finish. 14 RELAXED ELLIS CHAIR The Relaxed Ellis dining chair pays tribute to the design of a Harvey Ellis chair that dates back 100 years. The back is more angled than the original Ellis chair, making it very comfortable. This chair pairs well with a craftsman style dining table. Joinery is mortise and tenon. Finishing choices are stained and lacquered or clear lacquer. Seat can be carved wood or upholstered, arms optional. The heavily sculpted seat tilts back just enough so you won t slide out when leaning against the curved crestrail. The dished seat is as comfortable as it looks while the splay of the legs provide stability. This design is especially easy to tuck under a bar top when not in use. 21 LOW BACK STOOL The Low Back Stool works well in a kitchen, at a bar or tall desk. The dished seat is comfortable while the low back provides support and a sense of security that invites sitting. 24 WORK STOOL The Work Stool was patterned after a Danish stool used by a leather worker. The deeply dished seat invites sitting and helps maintain good posture by allowing the sitter to tip forward if necessary without sliding out of the seat. Joinery is mortise and tenon. The shape of the seat makes it especially comfortable while the Red Cedar wood makes it durable in the outdoors. Joinery is mortise and tenon with waterproof glue then finished with oil that enhances the beauty of the wood and does not peel. Available in love seat size (4 ft. long), three-seat size (5 ½ ft. long), and a single seat size. Custom sizes welcome. 27 CNC SERVICES A shop-built CNC computer controlled router is used in the chair making. Service can be provided to carve, engrave or inlay designs in furniture, signs, doors or decorative items. Call for pricing. FAQ Finish Indoor pieces are usually finished with a washable lacquer though other finishes or even no finish are options. Outdoor furniture is finished with an oil or a Cetol film finish or possibly left unfinished. Staining with any standard stains adds $15 to the cost of a chair or stool. Matching a colour or stain is by quote. Wood Hard maple is used for most indoor chairs and stools. Other woods such as Cherry, Oak, Fir, or Alder are available but may increase the cost. Outdoor furniture is Red Cedar to withstand the elements. Upholstery Most indoor seats can have an upholstered seat or a wood seat. The price is the same. The upholstered price includes a fabric allowance of $35 per yard. You choose a fabric and if it is more expensive you just pay the difference.
