2 Background to NATEP In support of the UK Aerospace Industrial Strategy for the Aerospace Sector, the Aerospace Growth Partnership (AGP) has developed a National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP) aimed particularly at small and medium sized businesses to : help them develop their own innovative technologies Increase their ability to win new business with higher tier companies anywhere in the world

5 Objectives of NATEP NATEP Grant funding : Up to 150K with typical duration of 18 months Use the proven ATEP model to deliver via the Regional Aerospace Alliances Deliver 100 technology projects in the UK aerospace supply chain Strengthen the technology development capabilities of 250 UK supply chain companies Create / sustain 1200 high value jobs in the UK aerospace supply chain Align aerospace OEMs, mid-caps, SMEs and HEIs / Catapults within the AGP Lifting Off Strategy and its implementation Deploy developed technologies in global aerospace platforms by 2020/25

6 The NATEP Model NATEP is based on the highly successful ATEP Projects run by the MAA Money & Mentoring Regional Engagement R & T Project Planning & Bidding Project Assessment & Approval Project Delivery Sustainability & Dissemination Help with Consortia Knowledge Transfer Workshops & Networking Help with Planning Collaboration Agreement 2 Stage Proposal Process Feedback on Full Proposal Opportunity to Present Monitoring of Project Progress Assistance with Claims Training on IP Protection Promotion Opportunities Press coverage Feedback on Outline Proposal Technology Roadmapping

7 Project Eligibility Supply chain technology partnership of at least 2 entities and preferably 3 or more and be industrially led Clear benefit technically and in creating or safeguarding jobs Clear path to commercial exploitation Objective to pull through new technology or process for use in current or future product or manufacturing process Fundamental research not suitable, but wide range of technology readiness levels (usually TRL4-7) considered Preferred development in line with national technology roadmaps and national strategy Preferred wider exploitation possibilities to enhance the advanced manufacturing sector In-kind support expected from larger companies. Companies outside the UK can be involved, particularly as end users but can not receive funding.

10 NATEP Calls - update 28 projects currently running, funding 66 partners with 25 different end users 18 additional call 3 projects approved by the NSB on 6 th January 2015 (subject to contract) 80 outline proposals received in call 4 Covering 10 different technology focusses (manufacturing, composites, software, electronics etc.)

11 Call 1 Project Project: Partners: Process Optimisation for Aerospace Alloys ITP (Spain) Pattonair ANT Industries (Lead Partner) Arrowsmith Engineering Technoset Grant Awarded : 90,497 Duration: 12 months This Project will: Improve manufacturing processes on exotic metals that will substantially increase capacity in the Aerospace supply chain Utilise the expertise of the Manufacturing Technology Centre, Coventry, to undertake research into specific machining processes Optimise production methods for machined aerospace parts to secure UK supply chain competitiveness and reputation for providing a world class service

12 Call 1 Project Project: Partners: Visual Inventory Optimisation Software RLC Engineering Group, Consult Avila (Lead Partner) CANDA Systems Grant Awarded: 64,000 Duration: 18 months This Project will: Develop a visual management software tool to optimise inventory levels based on a proven best practice methodology. A multi-level software tool enabling data visualisation and active & dynamic inventory planning and control Incorporation of best practices in inventory management in the software. e.g. segmentation, mapping, trend analysis, alerting, root-cause analysis and forecasting Supported by an inventory management and control e-learning package Delivery via cloud technology

13 Call 1 Project Project: Partners: Aviation High Noise Headset RACAL Acoustics (Lead partner) Hosiden Besson LimitEar Grant Awarded: 150,000 Duration: 15 months This Project will: Accelerate several innovative technologies into a new hearing protection and communications headset with an associated control system for use in high noise environments in rotary wing and fixed wing platforms.

14 Call 1 Project Project: Partners: A20X Surface Treatments Development Aeromet(Lead) Poeton Boeing (end user) Grant Awarded: 35,000 Duration: 18 months This Project will: Develop and verify the performance on a range of metal finishing treatments (anodic and chemical conversion coatings) for Aeromet s A20X family of casting alloys without using hexavalent chrome compounds (which have a limited life under REACH legislation

15 Call 1 Project Project: Partners: asuresign Aero Test and Verification Systems Ltd (Lead partner) University of Bath Grant Awarded: 92,000 Duration: 15 months This Project will: develop a tool (asuresign ) to support Requirements Based Verification for DO- 178 & DO-254 compliance in aerospace software and hardware development. asuresign is uniquely placed to combine software testing and hardware verification tracking onto a single platform thus allowing clients to test their increasingly complex products more efficiently.
