Connecting the Economy for Growth Bringing together companies from across the sector helps to ensure that vital transport issues are raised at conference. Taking part in Transport Hub events has been invaluable for me in building links with the sector. John Woodcock MP Labour
Partners ABTA has been at the heart of travel for more than 60 years, helping our members to grow their businesses successfully, while helping their customers the travelling public have confidence in their travel experience. Our members range from small, specialist tour operators and independent travel agencies through to publicly listed multinational corporations and household names. We help our members and their customers navigate through today s changing travel landscape by providing schemes of financial protection and a course of redress if something goes wrong; by raising industry standards; and by presenting a united voice to Government to ensure the industry and the public get a fair deal. The Airport Operators Association (AOA) is the voice of UK airports. We represent the interests of UK airports and are the principal such body engaging with the UK Government and regulatory authorities on airport matters. Our vision is to see a vibrant airport sector which can maintain sustainable growth, sufficient to meet the social and economic needs of the UK. All-Party Parliamentary Light Rail Group The All Party Parliamentary Light Rail Group (APPLRG) is an independent forum for MPs and peers from all political parties and industry to come together and raise awareness of matters concerning light rail and tramways best practice and sustainable development. APPLRG holds regular inquiry sessions in order to provide a holistic package of policy proposals. These proposals aim to drive forward best practice, leading to affordable light rail and tramways with resultant physical and economic regeneration, carbon reduction, improved air quality, congestion relief and affordable transport to the UK and its citizens. Secretariat support is provided by James Harkins FCILT, Light Rail (UK) and various supporting organisations and individuals. The Transport Hub was an excellent vehicle for BPA to advertise our presence at conference and raise our profile further with a political audience. Patrick Troy, Chief Executive British Parking Association
For organisations with small budgets but big issues there s no better or more cost effective way of having a presence at party conferences than Transport Hub. Stephen D Alfonso, Head of Public Affairs ABTA The British Parking Association (BPA) is the largest professional association in Europe and the recognised authority on parking. We represent, promote and influence the best interests of the parking and traffic management professions throughout the UK and Europe. Our members include manufacturers, car park operators, local authorities, health authorities, airports, railways, shopping centres, bailiffs and consultants. We also manage the Approved Operator Scheme for parking on private land and the Safer Parking Scheme. The BPA aims to place the customer at the heart of parking management and drive better traffic management across the profession. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is the professional body for everyone involved in transport, logistics and supply chain. The Institute aims to be the focus for professional excellence and the development of the most modern techniques in logistics and transport and to encourage the adoption of policies which are both efficient and sustainable. For more information on how the Institute can help you to progress in your career visit our website or call us on FairFuelUK, the Nationally Recognised Award Winning Campaign fighting for lower petrol and diesel prices, is widely accredited with stopping 30 billion of taxes being levied on over 32 million road users, businesses and the haulage industry in this Parliament. It changed Government Financial Policy and direction. Back in 2011 all those fuel escalators planned by Labour were going to go ahead. There was no plan whatsoever to freeze or reduce them by the new coalition government. Three years, a lot of lobbying and creative campaigning later, Howard Cox and Quentin Willson walked out of The Treasury clutching a Government document supporting everything FairFuelUK had proven. This is the longest freeze of fuel duty in 20 years and has saved UK businesses and families 30 billion-worth of needless taxation. FairFuelUK will continue to fight for lower prices at the pumps and will also represent 32m UK road users other needs too.
FTA s members operate more than 200,000 lorries, deliver over 90 per cent of freight moved by rail and 70 per cent of UK visible exports by sea and air. As a result, FTA has a unique perspective on UK transport issues. The Association s genuinely multi-modal focus means it offers perhaps the most complete and informed view possible from the logistics industry. With offices across the country and expanding operations in Ireland and Brussels, FTA is one of the largest and leading trade associations in the UK. It has also been responsible for leading the Transport Hub in its first three years. Living Streets is the national charity that stands up for pedestrians. With our supporters we work to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets, where people want to walk. We have been the national voice for pedestrians throughout our 80 year history. In the early years, our campaigning led to the introduction of the driving test, pedestrian crossings and 30mph speed limits. Since then our ambition has grown. Today we influence decision makers nationally and locally, run successful projects to encourage people to walk, provide specialist consultancy services to help reduce congestion and carbon emissions, improve public health and make sure every community can enjoy vibrant streets and public spaces. Sustainable Aviation (SA) is an alliance of airports, airlines, engine and airframe manufacturers, and air traffic management focused on making UK aviation more sustainable. A world first, it demonstrates the industry s collective commitment to deliver a cleaner, quieter, smarter aviation sector, based on technological innovation, enhanced operational procedures and sustainable biofuels. It sets long-term goals supported by a clear work programme, with regular public reporting on progress. Transport Hub is a great way of transport interests avoiding clashes and ensuring maximum impact for their event. Theo de Pencier, Chief Executive Freight Transport Association
Now a central part of the party conference landscape, the Transport Hub will once again showcase the key debates in transport policy, giving conference attendees the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter to them with all the key political and industry figures from across the world of transport. This year the Transport Hub will again hold 30 meetings across the three main conferences; including discussions on fair fuel, the future of aviation and our railways, parking management, tourism, trams and more. In addition, each conference will see the return of the Big Interview; which is your chance to put your questions directly to the front bench of each party.
Event programme Sunday 21 September The Big Transport Interview with Mary Creagh MP, Shadow Transport Secretary (Central 7, Manchester Central) The Transport Hub Labour Conference Dinner (Peel Room, The Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel) Monday 22 September FFUK: Are 32 million road users getting a fair deal from successive Governments? BPA: Good parking management is essential for a healthy and vibrant high street APPLRG: Trams A catalyst for jobs and growth AOA/ABTA Dinner: Aviation and tourism a conference discussion Tuesday 23 September AOA/ABTA: Growing Global trade, tourism and aviation under Labour Living Streets: Walking our way to economic recovery how saving our health and high streets is as easy as walking to school CILT: A vision for the future of our railways FTA: Transforming transport securing and supporting the next generation of employees
