1 IAPS Children's Triathlon Champs. 12 th June 2016 Race Instructions VENUE: Dulwich College, Cranbrook Swim in the open air 20m pool, Transition, cycle and run on the grass in sports field. EVENT TIMETABLE (Approx.) ALL COMPETITORS 8:30am -10am - Registration (Priority Years 5 & 6) 10am - 11:15am - Registration (Priority Years 7 & 8) 10:40am - Race Briefing for Years 5 & 6 11am - Year 5 Race Commences 11:30am - Race Briefing for Years 7 & 8 12:15am (approx.) - Year 6 1:15pm (approx.) - Year 7 2pm (approx.) - Year 8 2:30pm - Last Competitor starts 3:15pm - Last Competitor Finish Presentations and Trophies at the end ARRIVAL Park in designated areas REGISTRATION Competitor to be wearing cycle helmet for checking Each competitor will receive a race pack containing: Race number, to be worn on the FRONT of the running/cycling top. If you are wearing a race number belt your number should be shown on the back for the cycle, front for the run. Coloured wrist band to wear during the event- this shows us which event you are entered in. Numbered Photos label for parent. All photographers must be wearing this.. If you need more than two please see crew at registration. Triathlon England Day Race Licence will be ed out to you the Friday before. (If you have a yearly licence go to the marked refund table.) 2 Numbered labels for the Cycle and Helmet.(these must be attached before gaining entry to transition) Numbered sack for any clothing worn before the swim. Cycle helmet check. (Please ensure you have it fastened on the triathlete). You will be 'Body marked' with your race number on your upper LEFT ARM and LEFT CALF Remember to bring your BTF race licence with your to get your 1 refund. Failure to do so, the refund cannot be made. CHILD WELFARE If you do not wish to have pictures used in publicity of the event please obtain GOLD No Pictures wristband to be worn by the competitor. PHOTOS wrist band must be worn by parents WELFARE officer is wearing a labelled RED hi-vis jacket, if you have any issues please speak to her. Children changing into their swim kit are your responsibility; the changing village is a public area please ensure your child changes safely. NON-RACING ENTRANCE - transition All your racing equipment must be placed next to your cycle, no boxes or bags to be left. Number label attached to your cycle seat post before entry and number labels on the front/ sides of the cycle helmet. On entering transition please be wearing helmet, clipped up, check done on cycle brakes. Next Timing chip will be fitted to the LEFT ankle (must not be tampered with or removed- if lost no interim times and cost to be paid) Please no mobile phones or MP3 players. RACKING CYCLES- rack all cycles in corrected numbered position Please No marking of position and No BOXES allowed in transition. COURSE - warm up On arrival there will be an opportunity to WALK around the course until 10.30am. RACE BRIEFING am This will be held down next to the cycle transition area, all to attend. We will need the Novice competitors to be changed before the briefing so we can get started straight after the briefing. We ask all the year 5 competitors to change BEFORE the briefing. We will call the different races (by colour wrist band) to the rostrum and a marshal will escort them to the pool. We ask all parent not to take children over to the swim start themselves. Races over 50m will be a 'Snake swim' (swim l/h/s of lane up and down then move down a lane and so on, diagram below.. Page 3 of 6

4 VIDEO DEMO ON THIS LINK Swim >TRANSITION Exit pool and make your way directly to the cycle transition. Exit via fire door, and follow marked course CYCLE SECTION On reaching your cycle: FIRST put on your footwear, shorts, running top (number on front) & cycle Helmet On foot (not ride) to the 'Bike Out' and mount in the marked box. Cycle the correct number of laps. (competitor/parent to count), now in CLOCKWISE DIRECTION Each cycle lap is 1000m Dismount in the marked box. Run/walk with cycle to your marked area. Lay down/ rack cycle and remove cycle helmet. Exit on to the run through 'Run Out' Help will be on hand for those using the racking Page 4 of 6

5 RUN SECTION - Each lap is 600m- that is an 'Out and Back'= 600m = 1 lap On leaving the transition area take a wrist band. Collect a wrist band each time you start a lap. So bands collected equal the number of laps completed. On completion of correct number of laps take route to the finish line. FINISH The finish awaits. The medals will be given out after each race is completed. The Timing Chip to be returned before exiting the finish area. Prizes to be awarded list to follow Results are Interim and on Weds. Midday will be declared final results TIMING Times are taken manually at Start of Swim, (after that TAG in use), End of Swim, Start of Bike, End of bike, Start Run, Finish. There will also be a Cycle LAP counter TAG point to check cycle laps completed. Page 5 of 6

6 PARENTS AND OTHER SPECTATORS Mum and dad, just a quick word on your roll on the day. All spectators must stay in the taped area and not enter any part of the course, including poolside. This is the young triathlete s event and supported by you with verbal encouragement they will get around the marked course and feel that they have achieved competing against the clock and earned their medal. PLEASE DO NOT RUN ALONGSIDE THEM ON THE COURSE If you do so then time will be added to the finish time Pictures/ Video : If you are using a camera you MUST be wearing a PHOTOS wrist band ( in the registration pack) Any withdrawal from the race MUST be notified to the Race Director or Timekeeper (based at the finish) RESULTS There will be interim results available after the last competitor has crossed the line, these will be to determine the prize medal winners. The full interim results will be posted on the web on the same evening. Any issues are to be raised with the race organiser ASAP. There will be a check on the number of laps completed; if course has been cut short then the competitor will have the appropriate time added and also a time penalty. No child will be disqualified for not completing the full course. Please make sure the competitor knows how many laps of each section, they need to complete, write it on their hand, put tape strips on the bike handlebars (take one of for each lap completed) etc. TOILETS & CHANGING These will be in the swimming pool changing area for competitors only, Spectators to use the facilities in the main building as sign posted. FIRST AID Supplied by 1st aid qualified persons WANT Medical and will be positioned in the field next to the cycle transition area. PUBLIC ADDRESS Music and commentary through the event will start at 11am, please listen out for announcements that may affect the race, we will try and give you a name check around the course. WEATHER / CONDITIONS Page 6 of 6

7 The race organiser will take decisions prior to the start, on the day, to ensure the safety of competitors. If the weather is to wet then this might mean a shortened cycle course or a change of event to a Swim/Run. COLLECTING CYCLES / SWIM KIT AFTER RACE Some of you may wish to leave before the completion of the event. Whilst the race is on ONLY competitors are allowed in the cycle transition area. Competitors go to the Transition Manager at the non-racing entrance who will, when safe to do so, allow the child in to collect equipment. A check is carried out to ensure the numbers on the cycle and helmet match that on your child. SWIM KIT NUMBERED SACK Collect from designated area (at SWIM OUT), we will try to put in some sort of numbered order (dependant on helpers). Enjoy your race, we look forward to seeing you.
