1 The Extra Scoop September/October 2016 Presented by the Fairbanks North Star Borough Department of Parks and Recreation Adaptive Recreation Program (907) Karl Kassel, Mayor Adaptive Program Coordinator Tiffany Corrigan Phone: Website: Dear Participants, Parents and Caregivers: This issue of the Extra Scoop is packed with information for the schedule changes for the Adaptive Fall/Winter Programs and September/October 2016, Programs, so please read it carefully. The Fall/Winter Adaptive program schedule will begin Tuesday, September 6, 2016, and continue through May 26, Monday, September 5th, there will not be bowling due to the Labor Day Holiday when all borough offices will be closed. The programs will run Monday through Friday, with the exception of every third Saturday of each month, when we will attend the Special Olympic Dances held at the Elk s for that week s cultural outing. The calendar reflects all the changes and times of each activity. Page 2 has the Enrichment Activities listed for the months of September and October. You will find a registration form to fill out if your most current information is not already on file. A current registration form on file is required to participate in any of the Adaptive Programs. You will be required to register for each of the programs in which you would like to participate in. It is important for those wanting transportation to place their request at the same time of their call to register for the program. We will try to accommodate the requests made. To register, or acquire information, simply call the Parks & Recreation Adaptive Office at or check online at the Fairbanks North Star Borough website:co.fairbanks.ak.us/parksandrecreation/programs/adaptive. Please leave a voic if we are unavailable, and staff will return your call. If you have an address that you would like to receive your monthly newsletter, please call the Adaptive Office with your information and we will put you on the list. It is very important for participants to wear appropriate outerwear for the current temperature when participating in the Adaptive Fall/Winter Programs. Equally important, when being transported on the Parks & Recreation van each individual must be wearing appropriate outerwear for the current weather conditions; (i.e. raincoat for rainy weather, boots, hat, coat & gloves for the cold winter weather). We have limited transportation for all activities including. Please be considerate of others; if you register for a cultural event then find you are unable to attend, please cancel no later than the day before the activity. This makes it possible for us to contact someone on the waiting list so they may attend in your place. We look forward to seeing you participate in the Adaptive Fall/Winter Program fun. Tiffany Important Dates: Monday, September 5th, No Programs, Labor Day Holiday Tuesday, October 18th, No Programs, Alaska Day Holiday Observed Fairbanks North Star Borough Department of Parks & Recreation, Tiffany Corrigan Adaptive & Senior Program Coordinator,
