I have developed protocols, education and training materials as well as daily organizational procedures. I grew the department from one therapist for acute care and outpatient services to demonstrating a demand for three full therapists, hiring competent SLP s, training and mentoring them. I have mentored students at various levels of education through our volunteer program. I am currently a CFY Supervisor. I developed a Dysphagia program for head and neck cancer patients. I am currently team leader of the Cancer Rehab Team as well as liason for Cancer Center, Critical Care Unit, Palliative Care, and other disciplinary teams throughout this 200 bed hospital. I have expanded our outpatient population to Neurology, Oncology and Pediatrics. Most recently, I have added infant feeding and swallowing on the acute care floor to the list of programs being developed. I conduct evaluations and therapy in acute care and outpatient settings as well as complete all other areas within the scope of practice of a speech-language pathologist. I am the lead therapist for Modified Barium Swallows, as this is my specialty. I conduct studies on Birth-Geriatrics. I conduct team approach feeding and swallowing evaluations with infants and children. I work closely with our oncology department for dysphagia evaluation and treatment, including vital stim. I follow these patients closely through their treatment, inpatient stays and eventually outpatient treatment. I continue to be exposed to Critical Care patient s including trach and vent, PMV s, and various diagnostics. My day is often juggled between inpatient, outpatient clinic, outpatient Modifieds, Critical Care Rounds, Cancer Huddle, Team mentoring, Student shadowing and program development. This lends to my strengths of being very organized and efficient with time management. My wide experiences with populations and diagnoses has allowed me to become very good at triaging a situation, coming to a confident and competent decision and moving on. I excel in the role of outpatient scheduler and point person for Modified Barium Swallow studies and enjoy my role as a liaison between services to provide the best patient care possible. I am the lead therapist for completing MBS studies in our facility, with all other SLP s referring their patient s to me for completion of this diagnostic. I also take a lead role in introducing Vital Stim therapy to our inpatient

3 and outpatient services, and work very closely with top neurologists at the Southwest Washington Medical Center acute stroke care center, ranked as one of the top 5 in the nation. As there is never more than one SLP scheduled at a time, I singlehandedly manage a high volume of acute patients at SWMC, which has been ranked a top 100 hospital 4 times. This requires the ability to organize, prioritize and manage in a calm and productive manner, and helps me to hone my interpersonal skills. I transition between outpatient to acute care to rehab to MBS patient s all in a day; making me versatile and skilled in all areas. I added to my experience in trach and vent, blue-dye studies, MBS and passy-muir valve training. I mentor speech students requesting to shadow and learn from me. I am also frequently asked to help educate the staff and nursing personnel of a 300 bed hospital comprising Stroke, Cardiac, Ortho, Pediatric, Intensive Care, Emergency, and Surgical services. I began with this company in NM and transferred with them out to WA when we relocated. Focus was mainly on dysphagia programs, writing initial evaluations, care plans, progress notes and discharge summaries for all patients with a speech-language referral. Also a large population of patient's with a need for memory therapy and compensation strategies. Assisted in discharge planning, participated in family education, produced home programs, communicated with nursing and other team members, participated in the rehab dining program and referred for modified barium swallow studies when necessary; always accompanying my patients to these studies. Training of CNA's and other staff in regards to dysphagia and aspiration risk. Assisted with other duties as requested by management.
