3 World Leaders have commized to 17 Global Goals to achieve in the next 15 years

5 Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved and promote sustainable agriculture Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well- being for all at all ages Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and quality for all and promote lifelong learning Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls Goal 6: Ensure access to water and for all Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all Goal 8: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all

6 Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable and foster Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries Goal 11: Make inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable Goal 12: Ensure sustainable and paperns Goal 13: Take urgent to combat climate change and its impacts Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources Goal 15: Sustainably manage forests, combat halt and reverse land halt biodiversity loss Goal 16: Promote just, peaceful and inclusive Goal 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

8 Building on the MDGs MDGs adopted in 2000 Achievements include: Number of people living on less than $1.25 per day was dropped in half Number of kids not in school dropped by almost half People ge\ng treatment for HIV increased by 15x Child mortality down by almost half

9 Work is unfinished Over 800,000,000 people are living on less than $1.25 per day 1 in 9 people are hungry each night is alarmingly high, oceans becoming more acidic 1 in every 6 adults is illiterate (2/3 are women) Climate change

10 SDGs The new SDGs, and the broader sustainability agenda, go much further than the MDGs, addressing the root causes of poverty and the universal need for development that works for all people.

14 Climate Change Climate change is a standalone goal (SDG 13), and in individual targets in other key SDGs. SDG 1 on Poverty SDG 2 on Food and SDG 11 on and SePlement The Energy goal (SDG 7) will have an important role to play on advancing climate change under the SDGs, in regards to low emission development.

15 UNDP s Support to Address Climate Change in the Sustainable Development Goals Ongoing engagement in the development of indicators for the targets under SDG 13 through UN Task Team ConHnued support to dra`ing the new One UN strategy on Climate Change which will be finalized a`er Paris IdenHficaHon of programmahc intervenhons UNDP is implemenhng which can be scaled up under SDG 13 Analyzing and idenhfying synergies between climate change elements of the SDGs and Paris Climate Agreement for country implementahon in 2016 and beyond

16 on the Ground UNDP has a presence in over 177 countries and territories Porgolio of over $2.3 billion in and programming Support for all mechanisms of the UNFCCC and partners with the GEF, Fund and numerous and bilateral partners. Accredited to the GCF Focuses on integrated climate strategies, cross- sectoral climate resilient livelihoods, access to clean and affordable energy services, low emission and climate resilient urban and transport infrastructure and access to new finance mechanisms.

17 UNDP Support for INDCs UNDP has provided direct financial and/or technical support on INDCs to 43 developing countries, 70% of which submiped by 1 October. UNDP has also provided technical support to countries in areas related to INDC such as NAMAs and LEDs, which has also significantly contributed to the INDC process in countries. Hosted 12 Regional and Sub- regional technical dialogues with over 130 countries and produced a guidance note for designing INDCs.

18 The SDGs and Paris will launch a new era of development where on climate change is meaningfully integrated in development policy and programming, and is no longer seen as a standalone issue.
