1 Workplace Mental Health essentials Practical Identification, Early Intervention & Management Skills Training
2 Mental health and wellbeing are significant issues to contend with in the modern working environment. WHS/OH&S legislation means that all workplaces have a legal responsibility to provide psychologically safe and healthy workplaces and there is substantial research to support the potential return on investment of proactive initiatives in this area. Awareness raising, basic EAP provisions and community based mental health approaches are insufficient to realise the benefits of a psychologically safe and healthy workplace. In addition to effective workplace systems, policies and procedures, all staff, managers, and executives need to have the skills and confidence to be able to recognise, respond to, and (dependent on role) manage a broad spectrum of workplace mental health related matters as they arise. CommuniCorp s practical programs recognise the psychosocial, WHS, commercial and productivity implications of mental health and wellbeing within the workplace and that good work is good for people. Our workshops have been developed with adult learning principles in mind, ensuring that all are highly practical, interactive, role relevant and augmented by learning support resources. With delivery exclusively by expert senior psychologists, our courses cover the practicalities of how to respond to suspected or known mental health concerns; referral and support options; confidentiality matters; return to work issues; psychosocial risk factors; maintaining and managing staff in the workplace; and key legislation such as WHS, Disability Discrimination and SRC Acts. More than just information, these programs teach people the practical, real world skills they need in order to make a difference to the emotional wellbeing of others. EXECUTIVE BRIEFING: One Hour The executive seminar provides a high level overview of why workplace mental health is so important, and exactly what Executive staff members need to know and do to make a positive impact in this important area. Why it matters the human and financial cost and legislative obligations The impact mental illness has in the workplace Psychologically Safe and Healthy Workplace Framework Your responsibilities to identify and manage psychosocial risk The importance of senior leadership in creating a psychologically safe and healthy workplace culture Key workplace roles and responsibilities How to support employees early intervention and support strategies Communicorp Group

This includes knowing how to identify early warning signs, how to approach someone, how to have a conversation with someone, and how to refer someone to access help in the face of possible workplace mental health concerns. The importance of workplace mental health and wellbeing Roles and responsibilities in ensuring psychologically safe and healthy workplace Common workplace mental health issues How to recognise early warning signs and practical intervention and support options Initiating conversations, skills practice and case studies Confidentiality issues Promoting improved individual and organisational resilience and wellbeing Internal and external support services available to help you and your colleagues. MANAGERS AND SUPERVISORS WORKSHOPS: Full Day The first half of the Managers and Supervisors full day session includes the content and emphases of the half day Foundation Skills workshop, ensuring that all employees gain reciprocal knowledge and skills when it comes to basic early intervention strategies. Building on this foundation, this workshop then develops critical knowledge and skills to enable managers and supervisors to practically deal with typical work-related mental health scenarios that arise. The importance of workplace mental health and wellbeing Common workplace mental health issues Roles and responsibilities in ensuring psychologically safe and healthy workplace Ensuring Duty of Care, recognising psychosocial risks and how to recognise early warning signs and practical intervention and support options Initiating conversations, skills practice and case studies; managing confidentiality concerns Responding to more complex mental health issues in the workplace Contributing to improved individual and organisational resilience and wellbeing The role of managers legal obligations, responsibilities and what to do and what not to do The fundamentals of effectively managing return to work situations for workers with mental health concerns Understanding reasonable adjustments and support strategies Fundamentals of managing the performance of staff members with known or suspected mental health concerns Improving the psychosocial environment in the workplace to protect mental health Managerial case studies and role-plays Accessing available support (internal and external) and emergency contact information. HR & WHS: Full Day This workshop assumes that participants are currently working in a HR/WHS related role, with some rudimentary understanding of the full range of mental health issues. The workshop is designed to develop higher level knowledge and capabilities to maximise the workplace impact of critical HR/WHS related functions. The importance of workplace mental health and wellbeing and the impact mental illness has in the workplace the business case and key drivers Overview of WHS legislation, discrimination, safety, compensation and rehabilitation Acts/obligations Workplace mental health issues and challenges Recognising early warning signs and practical intervention and support options Managing duty of care and confidentiality issues Psychosocial risk factors for psychological injury Supporting early intervention and prevention Understanding types of injury-focussed behaviour Fundamentals of making reasonable adjustments Practicalities of managing performance concerns of workers with possible mental health issues Case studies and role-plays Self-care strategies and accessing available support and emergency contact information

It provides an evidence-based integrated approach focussed on improving return to work outcomes following psychological injury. WOT provides practical knowledge transfer and skills development to augment treatment interventions in situations involving psychological injury (compensable and non-compensable), including cases where physical injury has been complicated by psychological issues. WOT recognises that the most effective outcomes for all parties are achieved when there is a consistent, integrated, work-focussed approach to case management adhered to by all stakeholders.
