1 École Sydenham Community School Issue 10, June 3, 2016 Principal and Vice-Principals Message Karen Spragg and Lauren Lipsett May was a busy month with numerous events to celebrate. The Family Fun demonstrated the community s commitment to the health and well-being of all of our students at Sydenham and raised in excess of $3800. A special thank you to all the donors (see the page dedicated to donors), Loriann Hines, the coordinator, and the staff at Sydenham for making this another successful evening. The play Let Pe t Prince highlighted the many talents of our students at Sydenham. It received rave reviews from all who a,ended. A sincere thank you to the staff, Lauren Lipse,, Laura McFarlane, Linda McEvenue and Nancy Shaw who dedicated countless hours to make this show happen. A thank you as well to all the parents who assisted with the produc/on. Sun screen and a hat are a must for hot days. Bayview and Sydenham are beginning discussions as we move towards amalgama/ng as one school in 2017/18. You will find a,ached an invita/on to Bayview s Spring Carnival. This is an opportunity for students from the two schools to interact. Mrs. Lipse, and I would like to extend a sincere thank you to you, the parents, for the incredible 2016/17 school year. We are amazed daily by the dedica/on of Sydenham s parents. From the breakfast program to Wednesday s pizza program, parents support students through food, fundraising, tutoring, a,ending field trips and being students cheerleaders on a daily basis. 2 Sandcastle Theatre Student Opportunies: Art and Drama Camp - Owen Sound During the morning, students participate in a variety of fun drama activities and create an original play to be performed on the final day of camp. In the afternoon, students will work with an artist to create sets, props and costumes for the show and other art projects related to the theme of the camp. Art and Drama Camp Owen Sound July Musical Theatre Camps - Owen Sound During this two week camp, students will gain valuable experience in theatre, singing and dance while preparing a musical theatre show, which they will perform at the end of camp. In Owen Sound, students will be lead by Jackie Rose Brown. 4 Chinese Heritage and Language Summer Program A Chinese Heritage and Language Program will be offered this summer at OSCVI. Classes will run weekdays from July 5th to August 5th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Through fun and engaging ac/vi/es, par/cipants will learn how to speak and write Chinese and explore the ancient culture. There will be cracs, paper folding and brush pain/ng.
