If you or anyone you know would be interested in volunteering to lead a group of kids in a skill that you are passionate about, please let your club leaders or the Extension Office know!! Attention Livestock Kids Your photos from the fair have been sent out. When you receive them, one will go with each thank you you give. Don t forget, the photograph needs to be framed and Your thank you s need to be on actual thank you cards which you may purchase at any Dollar Store or Walmart. Once you have delivered your Thank You Gifts, you may come by the Extension Office and Claim your checks You Must present ALL of your signed donor slips before you will be aloud to pick up your check. 2 Record Books Due September 28 at 4:30 in the Extension Office or At the Council Meeting at 6:30 in Kismet. They will not be taken late. No Exceptions. If you need help filling your book out contact the Extension Office and set up a time for someone to help you. Why complete a 4-H Record Book? First, record books are an important tool that teach you skills that will last a life time. Learning how to record information and organize it will be something you will use rest of your life. Second, you have a chance of a $500 scholarship after completion of your senior year in high school. To be eligible, you must have turned in a completed record book for at least your final three years in high school. This scholarship will help pay for college or other additional education. Third, you might win an achievement trip! These trips are fun and educational for the participants and their chaperones. 4-H Record Book Check List The following sections of your record book must be completed and turned into the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2015 OR 6:30 p.m. to the 4-H Council Meeting in Kismet. No Exceptions. Go to click on 4-H Youth Development, then forms for all the record book pages. Each record page will have more details about requirements. Books should be put together in the following order, TABS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED! 4-H Personal Page Must have a current picture included Projects you are enrolled in must be in alphabetical order (remember to put the actual project name. Ex: Instead of putting Archery you would list it as Shooting Sports-Archery Must have parent s and leader s signature 4-H Story This will be an all-encompassing story, including all of your 4-H projects and activities. On average, stories should be 2-3 pages Kansas 4-H Permanent Record Sections 1-4 complete and up-to-date This can be added on to every year, so make sure to save it to your computer. Project Form (Choose ONE of these forms that fits your project and age) Junior, Intermediate or Senior General Project Record (not eligible for state judging) Junior Intermediate or Senior Animal Project Record (not eligible for state judging) Junior Intermediate or Senior Kansas Award Portfolio (KAP) (If you would like to be judged on a state level, you MUST complete this record) Must have leader s signature on record Continued on Next Page 9/9/ page 2

KYLF is Coming Up and You Don t Want to Miss Out! What: Come and build your leadership skills and potential through workshops, consulting groups, inspirational speakers and more. In addition, the 2016 State 4-H Youth Leadership Council will be elected at KYLF. HUNTER EDUCATION INTERNET COURSE AND FIELD When: September 12 Time: 8 AM 2 PM DAY Where: Conestoga Main Office, East Door **You must first complete the Internet course before you attend the field day, the link to the course is as follows: Call the Extension Office to sign up for the field day! Attention Club Leaders!! As the End of The Year Celebration is coming up on October 24th, We need each club to pick a person to receive a Volunteer of the Year from your particular club. You will need to purchase a gift of some sort for this particular person, Examples of what to purchase are: Gift Card Flowers/ a plant A plaque You will also need to choose someone from your club to present the award to your chosen candidate. Please let Kylee at the Extension Office know who your nominee is No later than October 15 at 4:30 PM. Professional Development Opportunity We will be doing a Professional Development Workshop for our 4-Hers this year. In this class you will learn how to write thank you notes and professional letters, Interview Skills, and many more useful lessons. 4 Need help with what to write in your thank you notes for your fair donors? This article is for you! Thank You For 4-H The Lost Art of Thank You Notes A handwritten thank you note has become a thing of the past with the rise of technology, but is still an important part of the 4-H program. Many people have spent their time and money, and put energy into making sure your experiences with 4H are possible. Handwritten thank you notes show your appreciation for the contributions and support your sponsors, donors, leaders, and others who have given to 4H. Showing your appreciation for someone s generosity can make an impact that lasts a lifetime. So, here are some tips for writing thank you notes: Be prompt: When writing your thank you notes, try to aim for sending it to the recipient within 5 days of receiving the award, donation, gift, etc. The longer you wait to send the thank you the less of an impact it will have and the less meaningful it becomes. Be specific and sincere: Address the recipient by his or her name and mention what they did for you. Let them know the impact they had or what you plant to do with the gift, donation, award, etc. Be personal: Use thank you notes that match the occasion and your personality. Let you personality show in your note. Let the recipient know a little bit about you or the challenges/ successes (i.e. what was tough for you or what you enjoyed while completing your project) you had with the project. No limits and no copycats: Make sure you don t limit your thank you notes to just the trophy and awards donors and market animal buyers. There could be other people who played an important role in helping you reach your goals or be successful in your project. Make sure they know how important their help was. Also, make each thank you a little bit different to make the recipient feel special. Taking a few minutes to write a personal, sincere thank you can make a huge impact. Your thank you could encourage volunteers to continue working with 4-H so they can help other youth like they helped you. It may also inspire sponsors and donors to increase their involvement and/or awards. Your thank you may even help you build relationships with people who can help you in future projects for your club, your community, and your world.
