2 This is the man who came up with the idea of driving his semi-trailer to Carnarvon to give gift hampers of fresh produce - Larry Brewer from NorthWest Express Mobile Butcher. Then one phone call to Vince Garreffa from Mondo Community Warriors, followed by a phone call to Julie Broad at UnitingCare West s Food Rescue, and the team swung into action to secure donations of fresh food to fill the truck, destined to leave Perth on Thursday 26 March. Arriving with the food ready to distribute Friday 27 March, the Carnarvon Growers Association along with the Carnarvon Shire Council had secured dozens of volunteers to help drive the hampers personally to each grower s door... Here are words of thanks from some of those recipients (growers) who were overwhelmed by the efforts of everyone and the amount of beautiful fresh meat, fruit and vegetables hand delivered. 3

3 Thank you! We would like to sincerely thank all involved in the distribution of the food packages that we received the other day. Such a wonderful gesture by so many people. On behalf of my family I cannot express how appreciative and overwhelmed we were with such generosity and kindness. I have spoken to a few growers around the river who feel the same and we will definitely be the first to stand up and help someone else in their time of need with produce once we are back up and running... Your kindness will not be forgotten. Thanks again. 5 Thank you! The delivery of meats, fruit and vegies brought a tear to my eye. We lost frozen and fresh food in the days following Olwyn. I would ask that you extend my sincere gratitude and thanks to all individuals and businesses who contributed so generously to help out Growers on the Gascoyne. Thank you! When Annie and I were delivering the goods, a couple of ladies we visited did get quite emotional so it does mean a lot. Without your time, vehicles and offer of resources this wouldn t have rolled out as successfully as it did within the time frame we had to pull it off. I live on South River Road with my husband Micheal and 3 sons, Nathan, Sam and Declan. We own a small banana plantation. I d just like to say a really big thank you to all the people who donated the wonderful produce we received, we really appreciated it. Thank you again. Mel Gibbings We are plantation owners here in Carnarvon and were overwhelmed with the food parcel we received from the generous farmers and butchers down south. We lost all our bananas and windbreak structure, but we were fortunate to not have any damage to our house and sheds. When the girls came to drop off our parcel, it was unbelievable and lifted our spirits. Thank you all so much, whoever was involved in anyway. A moment we will never forget. Glenn & Joy Harper During times of disaster wherever it may be anywhere in the world, hardship is felt and losses of all description are experienced. Fortunately we can thank God there was no loss of life in Carnarvon District. This is when the generosity and warmth is greatly appreciated from the people that have generously donated food items from your area, to our area. 8 On behalf of NorthWest Express Mobile Butcher, Mondo Community Warriors and UnitingCare West s Food Rescue, we would like to say thank you to all those who graciously contributed their produce for those who suffered losses after the devastation of Cyclone Olwyn. The generosity shown by local growers towards growers in and around Carnarvon has shown the true spirit of giving. The more we reach out to one another with a helping hand, the more society will develop and prosper. Just a little bit can go a long way, as has been shown through this wonderful initiative developed by Larry. Everyone contributed what they could and together the difference was significant, as the grateful messages of thanks in this booklet show.
