1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Fundraiser Date: March 2013 Department: Fundraising Manager: Deputy Fundraising Manager Job Purpose: To generate funds for Barnsley Hospice so as to achieve and enhance the mission, vision and values of Barnsley Hospice. COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Senior leadership team, Heads of departments, Hospice, Retail & Fundraising staff and volunteers External: Public, patients and relatives/carers, local authority, local businesses, contractors, local media, community organisations and landlords where applicable. 2 KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES within PORTFOLIO OF DUTIES Functional responsibilities of Role: (10 12) 1. Day to day responsibility to generate funds for Barnsley Hospice by using a. Organised Events b. Community Support c. Gift Aid d. Legacies e. Regular Giving f. Company Support g. General Donations h. Grants & Trusts i. Lottery 2. To work with the Deputy Fundraising Manager and the Retail & Fundraising Manager in the development of new and improved fundraising activities. 3. To maintain and develop relations with volunteers in order to ensure sufficient support and cover at events. 4. To identify, motivate and support volunteers to manage specific events or admin projects. 5. To work with external organisations, groups and individuals to approve and monitor events initiated by supporters/organisations. 6. To ensure that all monies are accounted for and handled in accordance with Barnsley Hospice Cash Handling Policy. 7. To ensure that accurate financial data information is compiled and available as reports as required by finance/senior leadership team. 8. To ensure that all records on the database are accurate, developed and maintained according to the Barnsley Hospice Information Governance procedures. 9. To work closely with Deputy Marketing Manager to ensure that Barnsley Hospice events and appeals are promoted as widely as possible. 10. To attend meetings and training at local and national level as and when required Page 2 of 5

3 People Management responsibilities of Role (please delete where not applicable): 1. Reports to: Deputy Fundraising Manager. 2. Team leader for Fundraising volunteers 3. To effectively induct and supervise a team of volunteers ensuring that people understand what is expected of them and have the necessary skills, information and resources to be effective in their role. 4. Ensure that all volunteers and staff are aware of the important role they play i promoting Barnsley Hospice s strategic mission, vision and values. Page 3 of 5

4 PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS Qualifications Essential: Full driving licence and regular use of a vehicle A recognised Fundraising / Event Management qualification Desirable: Recognised ICT qualification Experience Essential: Recent fundraising experience Customer relationship experience Proven track record of achieving and/or exceeding financial targets Desirable: Experience of working with volunteers Experience of using fundraising databases Skills / Knowledge Essential: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Excellent presentation skills Able to plan and monitor income and expenditure Well organised, with the ability to manage own time and work under pressure Excellent and confident telephone manner Able to work alone or as a member of a team Good working knowledge of information technology Ability to work accurately to deadlines The ability to motivate and influence people Enthusiasm, energy and creative flair Must be able to work flexible hours and in different environments Desirable: Knowledge of the media and media relation skills Proactive and results driven Page 4 of 5

5 JOB DETAILS Post: Fundraiser Salary: 16,500 to 18,500 (salary dependent upon qualifications and experience). Hours: 37.5 hours per week Flexibility is essential as evening and weekend working will be required. Annual Leave: Length of employment with Hospice Annual Leave inclusive of Bank Holidays On appointment After 5 years employment After 10 years employment 35 days* 37 days* 41 days* *Part time staff will receive pro rata holiday entitlement. Previous employment (service) with any other employer including the NHS will not count towards continuous service or holiday entitlement. Pension: There is the option of joining a contributory group personal pension Scheme. If applicable, the NHS pension scheme is transferable. Period of Notice: 4 weeks Probation Period: Six months Page 5 of 5
