1 First Look TM Curriculum for Preschoolers - Room I (3 s) June 12, 2016 Basic Truth: God made me. Key Question: Who made everything? Bottom Line: God made everything. Memory Verse: You made the world and everything in it. Psalm 89:11, NCV Bible Story: Creation, Day 2 Sky and Water Genesis 1:6-8 Make It Fun (8:45-9:15/ 10:40-11:00) Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your children arrive. Let one teacher lead small groups of children in activities while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. 1. Move with Me Move with Me is an activity that encourages children to use their imaginations and gross motor movements to play charades to introduce the Bible story. What You Need: No supplies needed During the activity: Who knows what an airplane sounds like? (Pause, and then make the sounds.) Those are great airplane sounds! Let s move around like airplanes. (Make the sounds as you move around with your arms out like wings on a plane.) Where do you see airplanes? (Pause.) Yes, we see them in the sky! You were great airplanes! What about a boat? Where do you find a boat? (Pause.) In the water! What does a boat sound like? (Let kids make a boat sound with you.) Those are fun boat sounds. Let s motor around like boats. Or you could row your boat! (Paddle.) (Continue with other things found in the sky and water.) After the activity: You all are great airplanes and boats! In our Bible story today, we are going to hear about what God made on Day Two! 1

2 2. Cloud Catchers Cloud Catchers is an activity that uses gross motor movements to catch the bubbles as an introduction to the Bible story. What You Need: A bottle of bubbles with a bubble wand During the activity: Let s pretend these bubbles are clouds floating in the sky. Can you catch the clouds? (Continue as long as there is interest.) After the activity: Today we re going to hear a Bible story about the sky. We ll hear about what God made on Day Two of Creation. Large Group 9:15 9:35/ 11:00 11:20 Take the class out to the large group area for a time of worship and to hear the story. Make It Stick 9:35 9:55/ 11:20 11:45 Choose two or more of the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. ***COLLECTION: PASS THE COLLECTION CONTAINER AROUND THE CIRCLE OF CHILDREN. TELL THEM IT IS FOR CHILDREN IN HAITI TO HELP PURCHASE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT OR CRIBS FOR THEM. THE VERMAIRES ARE THERE AND WE ARE HELPING TO SUPPORT THE HOSPITAL WHERE THEY WORK. IF A CHILD DOES NOT HAVE ANY MONEY, HAVE THEM REACH TO THEIR HEART, GRAB THEIR HEART AND PUT IT IN THE CONTAINER, SYMBOLIZING THAT THEY GIVE THEIR HEART TO GOD. 1. The World The World is an activity that uses repetition and a visual aid to teach the memory verse. What You Need: An inflatable globe Before the activity: Let's say our memory verse! You made the world and everything in it, Psalm 89:11. 2

3 During the activity: Look at this fun ball! It s a ball that looks like the world. Who made the world? (Pause.) God made the world! Let s pass the ball to each other and say the memory verse. Say it with me! You made the world and everything in it, Psalm 89:11. (Keep passing the ball.) You made the world and everything in it, Psalm 89:11. After the activity: Great job! Who made everything? [Bottom Line] God made everything. 2. Creation Station Creation Station is an activity that provides a visual for the children to review the Bible Story. Note: This activity is to be used as a large visual for the children. It is ideal to keep the train car that you build with the children each week in June and July so that you can display the entire train during Bible Story Review. What You Need: Train Car Review from the Activity Pages found on the Website, Happy Clouds from the Activity Pages found on the Website, blue bulletin board border,glue. Before the activity: Make the train car that you have chosen. Print the Train Car Review Activity Page on the appropriate size paper Cut out around the train car. If you are using the shoebox, glue or tape the train car to the bottom of it. Copy the Happy Clouds Activity Page onto the white cardstock. Cut out each cloud. Make sure you have one cloud per child. Cut the bulletin board border the exact size of the bottom of your train car. Before the activity: We are going to make another train car today. We can add it to our train car from last week. God made water and the sky. During the activity: (Tape the border into place.) God made the water. God also made the sky (point to the top of the train car). We need to put some clouds in the sky. Can you help me do that? (Pause.) Great! Everyone come on up and get a cloud to go in the sky that God made! After the activity: In our story today, we learned that God made the water (point to the blue border) and the sky (point to the top and clouds) on Day Two. God made the light and the dark on Day One. (Point to the first train car if you are adding the cars.) God 3

4 made the water (point to the blue border) and the sky (point to the top and clouds) on Day Two. [Bottom Line] God made everything! Who made everything? [Bottom Line] God made everything! 3. Building a Train Building a Train is an activity that helps the children visualize the Bible story and gives them something to build and add to at home with their families. Note: This activity is designed for the children to take each craft home in June and July and build a Creation Station train of their own with their families. The parent note and engine (from June Week 1) should be sent home the first week that the child attends within this unit, so that the parents understand how to build the train for the next two months. What You Need: Make a Train from the Activity Pages found on the Website, white cardstock, blue tissue paper, cotton balls, glue sticks Before the Activity: Each child will need one train car. Cut the tissue paper into rectangles about two inches long. Before the activity: We are going to make another train car that you can take home and put on the wall! During the activity: God made the sky and water. We are going to make water on the bottom of our train first. (Glue the tissue.) The sky is up here (point to the top of the train car). We are going to glue clouds (hold up cotton) to the sky that God made! After the activity: Great job! God made the water and the sky. God made light and dark! God made EVERYTHING! Who made everything? [Bottom Line] God made everything! Now you can take your train car home and add it to the train that you are making with your families. Snack and Prayer Time 9:55 10:05/ 11:40 11:50 Snacks on counter, small cups for water in drawer, ask coach for pitcher of water if kids want a drink 4

5 Prayer: Dear God, thank you for making everything in this whole world, including the sky and the water. Thank you also for this food and thank you for loving each one of us. Amen. 5
