Hello Everyone An unusual start to Term 2 with a short week only two weeks in. Our Anzac Ceremony last Friday was a real tribute to the fantastic children you have. The whole school, from the youngest to oldest, showed the utmost respect throughout the ceremony, and at times you could have heard a pin drop. 2 I would like to thank the Y5 and Y6 children who helped set up the field of remembrance and held special duties throughout the service including bell ringing, wreath laying duties, and flag bearing. I woud also like to give special mention to Inan C and Claudia S for their particularly moving renditions. Ningbo - Chinese Delegates On Tuesday, we hosted a short visit from a group of officials from Ningbo, China after a request from the Auckland Council. It was a great oppportunity for our children to showcase our school and again they were outstanding. Well done to all the Orchestra Ensemble Group, Choirs, Room 7 and the children who spoke so beautifully in Mandarin. A heartfelt thank you also to Judy Inkster who ensures we always put on a high standard of performance regardless of the event and notice provided. Ningbo Visit - Homestay We are again looking to host our third annual group of students from Ningbo at the beginning of Term 3, therefore it is time to seek expressions of interest from families who may be in a position to home stay them. The tentative dates proposed are 22nd July to 4th August. A condition of being a home stay family is that all adults over the age of 18 residing at the dwelling must agree to a police vet before they can be considered. A contribution will be made to families during the stay of approximately $230 (TBC) per week per child. All interest should be ed to office@cpds.school.nz. Y 5 School Camp I know the Y5 children are starting to get excited about camp next week. I hope the weather holds. These camps provide such a great experience outside the classroom and every year children push themselves out of their comfort zones. I admire their courage especially on the climbing wall. We are however, always mindful of the extra cost associated with camps and therefore, we would love to receive feedback from any family, regardless of age of your children, on whether you think we should continue to have both a Year 5 and a Year 6 camp in the future. Please feel free to comment in the feedback form at the bottom of the newsletter. Courtesy on our Roads Just a reminder to please be respectful of our neighbours and each other at pick up and drop off times. I know that traffic and parking can be stressful at times, however, everyone is in the same boat and we need to be mindful of the message our children are getting when parents disobey the rules or get angry with each other. School Reports and Parent Discussions Remember reports are coming home at the end of next week and then the 'Parent Discussions' the following week on 12 and 13 May (except Rm18). If you are having any issues accessing the online booking system please contact the school office ASAP. Please remember to return the notice for picking up your children on the Tuesday at 12.30pm.
