1 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN, OBJECTIVE #1 STUDENT AND STAKEHOLDER FOCUS Based on the analysis of the disaggregated data, the students needs are as are as follows: All students continued focus on enrolling in AP courses and earning a 3 or higher on at least one exam; department and teacher focus on remediating instruction and content for students who show they are not achieving at the level to earn a 3 on an AP exam African American students remediating instruction and content for students who show they are not achieving at the level to earn a 3 on an AP exam Special Education students enrollment in AP courses or preparing for AP test in selfcontained classes and taking the AP test in May FARMs students - remediating instruction and content for students who show they are not achieving at the level to earn a 3 on an AP exam LEADERSHIP School Mission Statement: The mission of Winston Churchill High School, a diverse community, is to provide an excellent education that challenges all students to embrace the highest standards of academic achievement and personal integrity. Student success will be accomplished through rigorous instruction and commitment to partnership with family and community. The school expects its faculty to assist each student to achieve full academic potential. This vision is communicated through leadership, department, staff, and PTSA meetings as well as publications such as the student handbook. Progress is monitored through data collection and stakeholder feedback. STRATEGIC PLANNING Increase the number of graduating seniors earning a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam to at least 69% with particular focus on those groups furthest from the goal (African American, Special Education, FARMs). 8 STUDENT AND STAKEHOLDER FOCUS Every student, parent, and staff member should feel welcomed at Winston Churchill High School. The disagree/strongly disagree student survey comments revealed that regardless of race some students have negative perceptions of WCHS Based on the student survey comments the students need: o to feel they have a strong supportive relationship with at o least one adult in the building to be informed of the extracurricular activities available African American students report through the survey comments that one reason they feel unwelcome in school is because they lack peers that look like them.
