1 Bridges to College Referral Packet Bridges to College at JVS prepares students for college through classes and coaching for 23 weeks. Our program costs our students nothing. We have helped over 500 students sharpen their academic skills and apply to college. Our Career Navigator helps our students find jobs and internships in their fields.

4 General Studies Goal: Students will place into college-level courses and succeed in college. Bridges to College has a partnership with Bunker Hill Community College to offer classes at NO COST to the students: English 095 General Studies students after a tour of Bunker Hill Community College Learning Community Seminar Benefits: Improved English and math skills necessary to enter the program of students choice! Tutoring and academic/career coaching Commitment Attendance for classes, workshops, events and individual appointments. Social, community building, networking and educational events General Studies English Classes: College-level critical thinking and discussion skills The basics of writing a good paragraph Practice constructing short essays Grammar related to writing clear and complete sentences Reading comprehension On time to all classes. Completion of all assigned homework (including self-study). Each student will meet his or her Academic Coach for a minute individual meeting every month. Students should expect to have about 5-6 hours of homework per week, including work assigned in class by instructors and self-study computer software. 8 English Requirements: Academic Requirements General Studies 1 year General Studies Pathway with Academic Success Class: Students are comfortable with basic English grammar and conversation. ESL Accuplacer Sentence Meaning Score of 75 and Reading Skills score of 75. OR ENG 090 for ESOL speakers and appropriate writing sample. 6-month General Studies Pathway: Students are comfortable expressing themselves with complex sentences in a structured piece of writing. Accuplacer English Exam placement of ENG 090/095. Math Requirements: Applicants ideally would know arithmetic, and be able to answer basic algebra questions. However, we do accept highly-motivated, low-scoring students. Exemptions: Some students place out of either our English or math classes due to their Accuplacer scores, since they score at college-level English, intermediate algebra, or higher. Students should be able to express themselves in writing. Students take the Accuplacer math exam for admission. Students should be comfortable with algebra and basic science concepts. z 8

Send them to our information sessions! All applicants must attend an information session to apply to our program. Sessions last 3-4 hours, and include skills assessments.
