1 The relation between the sea surface temperature around Ishigaki Island area and Coral skeletal growth records Hirofumi YAMAMOTO We have observed the long mean charactristic of ocean environmnt in the Kuroshio curennt area, according to analysis each environmental factor of the coral skeletal growth records in detail and a study to compare global climate changes as the monsoon and EL ni-no was carried out. In this study, we analysis the coral skeletal samples by 18 O, and estimate the past age temperature at the unit from a year to several hundred. We examination several methods by using a trace metallic element. And we analysis the long-term sea surface temperature (SST) data of Ishigaki local meteolological observatory from 1914 to As a result, we have got an obvious fact. It was rise 1.2 the year average of the sea surface temperature for 85 years at the port of Ishigaki. We compare IGOSS SST data from 1982 to 1997 around Ishigaki Island with a port of Ishigaki SST by the monthly surface of the sea temperature deviation. It show the same trend. This means is reflect Ishigaki island temperature to the SST change of Kuroshio area. The last year result was harmony a port of Isihgaki SST data with coral sample point SST data. It comes down to this, this time result is harmony the SST data at the coral sample point with the SST change of Kuroshio area. We heve to further study the SST change around Ishigaki island in a global earth of view. The source of Kuroshio current is the North equator ial current. We analys between unusual SST around North equator and ENSO by the SST deviation of every month. It show that appear plus deviation of ENSO bihind the plus deviation Ishigaki SST. It consider the change of air conditions with ENSO is the change of Ishigaki SST. In these way, Ishigaki Island reflect global climate change. This report was carried out due to grant from the Japan Marine Science Fundation in Key Words : Coral skeletal growth records, sea water fluctuation, Kuroshio current Ocean Research Department 35
