1 Transitioning to comprehensive ASRH programming in post-earthquake Nepal Responding to SRH needs of adolescents in fragile environments May 30, 2016
2 On April 25, 2015 at 11:56 local time, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, with the epicenter in Gorkha District, about 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu and just south of the China border. Over 350 aftershocks have hit Nepal over 4.0 magnitude since, including a 7.3 magnitude quake and 6.3 magnitude quake on May 12.
3 Overview of Adolescent SRH in Nepal 24.1% of the total population are adolescents aged years 17 % of adolescent girls have given birth to at least one child 29 % of adolescent girls are married 23.4 % of those married report having faced either emotional, physical or sexual violence 24% of adolescent abuse alcohol 9% (10-14 years) and 14% (15-19 years) have thought of suicide at on point Resource: MoHP, UNFPA

6 Program design in line w ith RH Sub-Cluster Strategy: TWO Mother-Baby Transition Homes embedded in two BEmONC sites in Gorkha MOTHER-BABY TRANSITION HOMES 612 antenatal and post natal consultation provided to women and adolescent girls, 511 newborn kits distributed 183 women and adolescent girls, and their newborns, benefitted from temporary shelter

11 LESSONS LEARNED EMERGENCY INTERVENTIONS Greater involvement of adolescents in sub-cluster meetings and in design, implementation and monitoring of emergency interventions. Inter-agency utilization of the Toolkit on ASRH in Emergencies Advocate clusters to prioritize ASRH-interventions from the initial response phase. Efforts to strengthen linkages among clusters to ensure holistic needs of adolescents are being met through multi-sectoral interventions. Need for strategies for improving adolescent participation and encouraging adolescents to become first responders through inclusion of adolescents in DRR
