1 Technology Services Mediasite Using Mediasite Presentations in MySCU All Mediasite presentations, including automated lecture room recordings, recordings created using Mediasite Desktop Recorder and videos uploaded manually to your My Mediasite portal, can be easily used in a MySCU Learning Site. SCU s Mediasite team will arrange for lecture room recordings to be made available via a link, while three simple techniques are available if you wish to add other Mediasite presentations to your Learning Site. Automated lecture room recordings Scheduled Mediasite recordings that automatically take place in Mediasite equipped on-campus locations are automatically added to the lecturer s My Mediasite portal page as well as to the unit s Mediasite catalogue page. A link to the catalogue page called Mediasite Lectures is added to the MySCU Learning Site for the unit under Lectures. Accessing a unit s Mediasite catalogue page Note: The Mediasite Lectures link item is initially unavailable to students. When you are ready for students to access the catalogue page, you will need to make it available by editing the Mediasite Lectures item and selecting Yes to Permit Users to View this Content. Page 1

2 Clicking on the Mediasite Lectures link displays the site s Mediasite catalogue page. Each automated recording is listed on the page in order from oldest to newest (by default), with options to download or watch. The Mediasite catalogue page in a MySCU site If you wish to add any other presentation located in the My Mediasite portal, such as those created using the Mediasite Desktop Recorder or edited using the Mediasite Editor, to your unit s Mediasite catalogue page, please contact the Mediasite team via Technology Services service desk. Other Mediasite presentations Any Mediasite presentation located in your My Mediasite portal can be added to your Learning Site in a number of ways. The three options shown in this guide require you to first copy the link information of the Mediasite presentation from your My Mediasite portal and to adjust the security permissions for the presentation, allowing seamless access to the presentation for your Learning Site users. 3 Obtaining the link information To obtain the link information, log into My Mediasite and click on the desired presentation on the portal page. When the presentation s management page opens, select the Share tab. The required information is in the Link text box. Select it and copy it. Copying link information for use in MySCU Configuring access permissions Before leaving the My Mediasite portal, ensure that students will be able to readily view the recording by selecting the Security tab for the presentation, then clicking on Click here to edit permissions. 4 In the Add people or groups text box that appears, start typing the word everyone. The object Everyone will appear. Adding the Everyone group Select it and then click on Add. Everyone will now appear in the list under Who has access. Everyone added to Who has access Page 4

5 Pasting the Mediasite recording link into your MySCU Learning Site. You are now ready to go to your Learning Site and paste the link information. Choose from the following three options: Using the Mediasite Mashup tool this will embed a viewer that will appear in the content item. Adding the Mediasite recording as a hyperlink this will create a link in a content item that will open the Mediasite recording in a full-screen viewer in a new browser tab. Adding a Web link this will create a content item with a clickable title that opens the Mediasite recording in a new browser tab. Option 1: Using the Mediasite Mashup tool The copied link information from your My Mediasite portal can be used to create an embedded Mediasite video in any content item. In the following example, the video will be added to a content item created in the Lectures content area. 1. To create the item, select Item from the Create section of the Build Content pull-down menu. This will open the Create Item page. Create Item Page 5

6 2. In addition to providing a Name for the item, use the content editor to add any supporting text you wish to include with the Mediasite recording. The Create Item page 3. Using the content editor, select the place where you wish to embed the video. Select Mediasite from the Mashups pull-down menu in the content editor toolbar. This will open the Embed Mediasite Video page. Mediasite Mashup option 4. Paste the link information that you copied from your My Mediasite portal into the textbox on the page, and select a desired size for the video. When you have done this, select Submit. Page 6

8 5. Select Submit again to continue. The embedded video will appear in the content item as below: The Mediasite mashup as it appears in a content item Option 2: Adding the Mediasite recording as a hyperlink If you create a hyperlink in the content editor using the copied link information, then clicking on the link will play the Mediasite recording in a new window. 1. To create a simple text hyperlink, type and select the text that you would like to act as the link. Click on the Insert/Edit Link icon on the content editor s toolbar. Select text and click on Insert/Edit Link icon The Insert/Edit Link dialogue box will open. Page 8

9 2. Paste the link information copied from My Mediasite into the Link Path field. For the option Target, select Open in new Window (_blank). 3. Click Insert to create the link. The content item will appear similar to the example below: The video link as it appears in the content item The Mediasite recording will play in a new browser tab when the link is selected. Page 9

10 Option 3: Adding a Web Link content item 1. After copying the link information from the My Mediasite portal, select Web Link from the Build Content pull-down menu in the content area of your choice. This will open the Create Web Link page. Create Web Link 2. Provide a Name for the Web Link and paste the My Mediasite link information into URL field. You can also optionally provide additional information about the recording in the Description field using the content editor. Add Name, URL, Description Page 10

11 3. Select Submit when you are finished. The Mediasite recording will play in a new browser tab when the title text of the content item is selected.
