Free Doodle Buddy - Great for young kids and old as it allows you to paint/draw with a paint brush, chalk or glitter pen, using smudging and an infinite numbers of colours, along with stamps, stencils and backgrounds. Free Dragon Dictation - This app does a pretty good job of converting spoken words to written text. Free Dropbox - Easily share files, photos, videos and more with dropbox. This app limits the amount of text on slides, therefore forcing the user to choose words carefully and forces the user to present to rather than read their slides. Free How Stuff Works access to over 30,000 HSW articles, complete with archived videos, connections to social media, quizzes and games. ibooks bookshelf that stores your digital books. The full- color covers show up on a virtual bookshelf under the Library tab. IBooks supports epub and PDF formats, so you can also use the app to read PDF files. The app converts this to digital format and will recognize basic operations, powers/exponents, brackets, trig, logarithms, and some constants (e.g. pi). Nearpod - The Nearpod platform enables teachers to use their ipads to manage content on students' ipads, iphones or ipods. It combines presentation, collaboration, and real- time assessment tools into one integrated solution. Teachers launch a lesson from their ipad onto the students' ipads / iphones and the students respond to the prompts on the screen. The teacher will see all responses on his/her ipad and can then share these responses with the class. Great to check for understanding in the middle of a lesson. Free New and Free RSS Reader allows students to easily access news and magazines from various news sources (including CNET, Google News, Reuters and CNN). Notability - Integrate text (typing/writing by hand), photos, audio, highlighting text and more in this swiss army knife of apps. Has been one of my favourite apps since I started using an ipad. $1.99 Nova Elements interactive periodic table that has information and images for the different elements. Students can construct, from scratch, the atomic model of each element. Unfortunately the videos don t work in Canada.

Examples of coded info includes SMS codes, phone numbers, normal text codes, and websites links. ShowMe Interactive Whiteboard - Record your voice over whiteboard tutorials, then post them online for others to see. Website has thousands of files online to view. Free Sketch Pad Explorer students drag, manipulate and animate visual mathematics to develop and generalize an understanding of fundamental concepts across geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and beyond. Free Skitch - Part of the evernote family of apps that allows the user to annotate / mark- up photos with shapes, arrows, sketches and text. Free Skype - Say hello to friends and family with an instant message, voice or video call on Skype for free. Students can use it to connect with other students around the world or with others in a field of expertise being studied in class. Free Snapseed edit photos with various filters, cropping tools, frames, settings and more. Finished photos are easy to share / open with other apps. Free Splice Video Editor - splice together HD photos and videos with this easy to use interface. Add music tracks from your library, sound effects, transitions, borders, effects (like Ken Burns, slow motion and fast forward), trim video and audio, narrate with your own voice, and more. Free Tellagami - this app that lets you create and share a quick animated video called a Gami. Students can create an avatar of themselves and then record their voice and have the Gami lipsynch their spoken words. Free Textilus - This highly rated word processing app has just about everything a student needs to elegantly word process their work. Extra keyboard row for formatting, tabbing and arrow navigation. Has the ability to insert inline

8 photos, charts and drawings. Saving to the cloud is easy, and compatability with MS Word and Pages is a useful feature. Unfortunately the free version has a limited number of files that can be saved, so beware of this limitation. Free ThingLink students can add hotspots/targets to their images on the ipad, and embed text, more photos, videos or links within the hotspots. It is similar to pop up videos, but on images. Toontastic - Students produce their own animated short story by moving pre- made characters and recording the dialogue. Students can also make their own backgrounds and characters. Also has a support page. Free Visualize - Visualize is an app that allows the user to manipulate images, clip art and other visual elements into one visual poster or page. It is fairly intuitive to use and allows students to quickly create visual representations. Need the paid version ($0.99) to save creations to the ipad's camera roll.
