2 Welcome to Dewsbury Delights 2011, packed with loads of fun events and activities for all the family, brought to be you by local communities, Dewsbury Committee and Kirklees Council. This year you can look forward to a full programme of activities right through the Summer, including getting out in the great outdoors with the return of the Outdoor Dewsbury Festival, Flowers and Fun and the Dewsbury Canal Festival. This year s A World Together fills Crow Nest Park with music, fairground rides and family fun, as well as celebrating Yorkshire Day with its unique traditions and people. Brass in the Park 2011 promises to be better than ever this year including a great choice of concerts in Crow Nest Park providing the perfect way to spend a Summer afternoon. 3 May Dewsbury and Heavy Woollen Beer and Cider Festival Dewsbury Town Hall Thurs 19 - Sat 21 May Organised by the local branch of CAMRA, the festival will include a selection of the best real ales from Yorkshire and Scottish breweries as well as a cider bar and world beers. Entry is by wrist band which can be purchased on the door. There are a number of sessions running each day, some of which include live entertainment. For more details visit: Fiery Food Market Dewsbury town centre Sat 21 May 9-5pm Enjoy a day out in the town centre to sample your favourite fiery foods from around the world, and browse stalls devoted to gastronomic delights. Satisfy your appetite for all things spicy with chilli-themed cookery demonstrations throughout the day, food-themed giveaways, music and entertainment. The Fiery Food Market takes place on the final day of the Dewsbury Beer and Cider Festival inside the town hall (see left). Tel: Viv Edmonds /1 Brass in the Park 2011 Sun 29 May - Sun 25 September Our parks and museum gardens will be filled with the sounds of music with this year s Brass in the Park. These free family friendly concerts provide the perfect way to spend a Summer afternoon. Brass band music has a long history and tradition in Kirklees and has always had an enthusiastic following. Kirklees Council is proud to maintain this tradition and this year s Brass in the Park features many top quality local brass bands. Emley Brass Band, Marsden Band and Golcar Band will all be performing at Crow Nest Park, as well as Shepley Band & Yorkshire Traction and Honley Band who will be playing at the Flowers and Fun event in the park in August. 4 June July Ansaar Women s Unity Sports & Fun Day Birkdale High School Sun 26 June Free entry with some charges for activities Come along and enjoy a fun filled day with inflatables, climbing wall, story time, pony rides, art competitions, sports tournaments, penalty shoot out, fairground rides, arts and crafts, Nasheed competition, martial arts, balloon race and lots of fun! There will also be lots of useful information available in the Education Zone and the Green Energy Zone. 5 Outdoor Dewsbury Festival Sat 23 - Sun 31 July Dewsbury and the surrounding countryside The nine day Outdoor Dewsbury Festival will be running from Saturday 23 until Sunday 31 July, with events to keep you active and entertained. The programme consists of walks, bike rides, canoeing classes, painting, circus skills, story telling, and much much more. Funded by the Dewsbury Committee, the festival is a key part of the Outdoor Dewsbury initiative, a long term project to get people outdoors and active, enjoying the amazing countryside, parks and green spaces that are right there on the doorstep for everyone in Dewsbury to enjoy. Visit Dewsbury Canal Festival Savile Town Wharf, Mill Street East Sun 31 July, 10am 4pm Free entry to festival, activities may vary This year s event will be extra special with a large fairground and whole host of exhibitors such as craft stalls and canal associations. The Safe Anchor Trust will be giving free boat trips along the Dewsbury arm of the canal. Refreshments will be available at the Old Stables Coffee Shop or for something slightly stronger call into the award winning Leggers Inn. 6 August Crow Nest Adventure Playground Open every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Throughout the Summer holidays 11am until 5pm Free entry Playworkers will be offering lots of activities throughout the Summer holidays at the new Crow Nest Adventure Playground in Dewsbury. The playground will be open to children and young people aged 8-12 years of all abilities to enjoy. Come along and enjoy the exciting new equipment and have a go at creating your own equipment! Crow Nest Park Wed 3 August Come along to Crow Nest Park s new Adventure Playground and enjoy a special event to celebrate National Playday! See the town centre transformed into a maritime metropolis with seaside activities from donkey rides to Punch and Judy shows and a beach complete with deckchairs and buckets and spades in Foundry Street near to the famous Dewsbury market.
