2 ETV ENDOWMENT THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND! June 9-16, 2016 Day One: Thursday-June 9, 2016: Arrive Portland, Welcome Dinner. Arrive in your gateway city to the Pacific Northwest, Portland, Oregon. Sally Bell, our tour guide, will meet you at the baggage claim area and assist with hotel transfer. With the beautiful Columbia River outside the doors of our private dining room and Mount Hood off in the distance, we enjoy a wine and cheese reception at 6:30 pm and a festive Welcome Dinner at 7:00 pm at our hotel. Tonight we meet and greet each other at the start of an exciting ETV Endowment adventure with Patrick McMillan. Meals Included: (Reception and D) Day Two: Friday-June 10, 2016: Portland/Fort Clatsop/Tillamook Forest Center/Three Capes Drive to Pacific City. Our morning begins as we cross the Columbia River and head north to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park and historic Fort Clatsop. The Lewis and Clark Corps of Northwest Discovery s expedition across western America helped to shape the nation that we are today. Here, at the Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks are preserved the sites that mark the success of key parts of their mission; successfully arriving at the Pacific, making ready for the return trip home, maintaining friendly relations with the homeland tribes and preparing maps and revising journals that would record their discoveries. We will enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds before a visit to the fort itself. Lewis and Clark spent 112 rainy days at this site as they prepared for their journey back to St. Louis. After our visit to the Fort, you can enjoy a short guided walk along the Neutal River trail with Patrick and learn about the flora and fauna of the Pacific NW rainforest. Following our walk, we head south to the Tillamook Forest Center. Located at the heart of the Tillamook State Forest, the region s newest interpretive and educational center showcases the legacy of the forest through artifacts, personal stories, photos, film, and exhibits. Outdoors, the forest comes alive through salmon watching viewpoints, the bridge and lookout tower, and a network of interpretive trails that encourage visitors to consider the forest through the eyes of Native Americans, homesteaders, early loggers, firefighters, tree planters and future forest managers. We will visit the center and take a hike with Patrick along the Wilson River on one of the site s

3 interpretive trails. After our walk we continue south along the 3 Capes Drive to Newport for a two-night stay at our beachfront hotel. Meals Included: B, L Day Three: Saturday-June 11, 2011: Newport Sea-Life Cruise This morning we head to the docks in Newport for a two-hour sea-life adventure cruise. Depending on migration patterns, we will look for gray whale, sea otters, dolphins and any number of coastal sea birds. After our cruise, we head into historic Newport for lunch on your own in one of the many restaurants. Again depending on migration patterns, male sea lions could be sunning themselves on any of the numerous docks jutting into the bay. After lunch and some free time, we head to Devil s Punch Bowl and the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. We will enjoy a guided walk along one of the easy nature trails with Patrick and see Oregon s oldest lighthouse, dating from If the tide is right, we will explore some of the tidal pools and walk down to the beach (stairs up and down). This is another good point for spotting migrating whales. We return to our Newport beachfront hotel for the evening. Enjoy a beachfront dinner tonight. Meals Included: B, D Day Four: Sunday-June 12, 2016: Newport to Cape Perpetua/ Heceta Beach State Park, Darlingtonia Gardens, Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area Dune Buggy Ride. We depart Newport this morning and cruise south again along the Oregon coast with viewpoint stops at some of the scenic coastal areas including Cape Perpetua with a longer stop at beautiful Heceta Beach State Scenic Viewpoint and Park. This scenic area features the famous Heceta Head Lighthouse and beach. There is time to walk among the tidal pools (tides permitting) and take the trail to the Lighthouse (uphill, but doable.) After our stop we will continue south with a lunch stop at a beautiful beach area, before we head to Darlingtonia State Botanical Preserve for a short boardwalk stroll to see the rare carnivorous darlingtonia californica cobra lily. Then we head to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area for a fun Giant Dune Buggy ride on the massive sand dunes of the area. Dress warm in coats, mittens and sweaters for the wind that comes off the Pacific Ocean here. The scenery is magnificent and the dune buggy ride a hoot! After a fun day, we check into our Florence, Oregon hotel situated along the beautiful Siuslaw River for the night. You are close to the shops and restaurants of Florence-just right for a fun leisurely evening. Meals Included: B, L Day Five: Monday-June 13, 2016: Jet Boat on the Rogue River/Trees of Mystery Hike/Klamath, California.

4 We depart for Gold Beach this morning and a two-hour Jet Boat Ride on the lower Rogue River. We follow the Rogue River 32 miles inland through the beautiful scenery of lowland Oregon. We will enjoy lunch before we head across the state line and into Northern California. We will make a stop for a trail walk with Patrick among the coastal redwoods at the Trees of Mystery. Redwoods are some of the largest living things on earth. If you haven t ever seen one, a Redwood tree can seem like something from a tall tale. These trees average in width from eight feet to as much as 20 feet, and some can be as high as 375 feet tall. A typical redwood forest contains more biomass per square foot than any other area on earth, and that includes the Amazonian rain forests. After our visit, we will check into our Klamath, California hotel for the night. Meals Included: B, L Day Six: Tuesday-June 14, 2016: Redwoods National Park, Avenue of the Giants and San Francisco. Our final day on the road takes us through the magnificent coastal redwoods of northern California. Redwoods National Park is under the combined administration of the NPS and California State Parks. We will drive down the coast with a stop at the Avenue of the Giants and one of the park s Visitor Centers before we continue on into San Francisco where we will be spending our final two nights. Our hotel is just a couple of short blocks from the Wharf with its restaurants and shops, so you can relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner on the town tonight. Meals Included: B, L Day Seven: Wednesday-June 15, 2016: Morning San Francisco City Tour with the Japanese in Golden Gate Park. Enjoy a guided ½ day tour of San Francisco seeing the famous sights of the city with a final stop at Golden Gate Park and a visit to the lovely Japanese Tea Garden. The oldest public Japanese garden in the United States, this complex of many paths, ponds and a teahouse features native Japanese and Chinese plants and trees. The garden's five acres contain sculptures and structures influenced by Buddhist and Shinto religious beliefs, as well as many elements of water and rocks to create a calming landscape designed to slow people down. After our visit, we return to our hotel where your afternoon is free to enjoy lunch at Fisherman s Wharf and to see more of the city on your own. We get back together tonight for a festive Farewell Dinner. It is the end of another wonderful ETV Endowment adventure and time to say farewell to old friends and to keep in touch with new. Meals Included: B, D Day Eight: Thursday-June 16, 2016: Departures from hotel to SFO airport Breakfast and hotel transfers on the final day are on your own and not included in the price of the trip so that you have maximum flexibility related to your time of departure. Some travelers may wish to take the red eye home after our Farewell Dinner, take a flight home the morning of the 16 th or take the red eye home on the evening of the 16 th after a day of touring San Francisco.

You can also arrange airport transportation with the concierge when you arrive at the hotel. Be sure to book your departure and pickup times early. Suggested breakfast options: You may choose to dine at the hotel or dine at one of the local favorites. The famous Boudins, known for their San Francisco sourdough bread, is within easy walking distance from the hotel and open from 8:00 am-11:00 am for breakfast. Have a safe flight home.
