1 One Verse Evangelism For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of is eternal life in our Lord. Romans 6:23 Advantages to One Verse Evangelism presentation include: It is short. It can be used effectively when time is limited. It is expandable. Analogies are optional, and you can make the presentation as long or as short as you wish. It is easy to understand. It gives you an opportunity to find out if the hearer clearly understands the gospel by giving him/her two chances to tell you the steps necessary for salvation. John 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death John 3:16 "For so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of. eter- For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of is nal life in our Lord (Rom 6:23) Our Action 1. Confess & Repent 2. Believe in your heart our Lord Life with 3. Surrender & Follow Romans 10: That if you confess with your mouth, " is Lord," and believe in your heart that raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning created the heavens and the earth. Matthew 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Romans 5:8 demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, died for us. This diagram above is what the Bridge Diagram should look like when finished. The verses need not be written in but they are placed next to the key elements of the diagram for memorization and use when presenting the gospel. If and when a conversation turns to spiritual topics, ask the other person if he/she would like to understand the basic theme of the Bible. Tell him/her that if they are interested you can draw him/her a picture that will explain all sixty-six books of the Bible in a practical way that he can easily understand. Assure them that it will take only ten to fifteen minutes. People seldom resist the curiosity this approach arouses few have ever had someone explain the whole Bible to them, let alone in ten minutes! If he/she agrees, proceed with the following illustration.
2 GOD The Bible ( s Words) tells us that in the beginning created the heavens and the earth (Gen 1:1) Therefore is the creator of all things and all things belong to Him. As Creator, He is the King and Ruler of His creation. is not only King and Ruler of His creation, He is also perfect and perfect in all He does. The Bible says that we are to live perfectly because is perfect (Matthew 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. ) Have you lived a perfect life? (Draw a box and write in the box on the right side of the page) Then explain that the Bible says anything short of perfection is called sin. (Draw a box and write on the left side of the page) The Bible also says in Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of. SIN & WAGES Open your Bible to Rom. 6:23 and ask the person to read the verse aloud to you while you write Rom 6:23 on the top of the page. "How would you define the term wages?" ( are the reward we receive for what we have done.) "How would you feel if your boss refused to pay you the wages that were due to you? How would you feel if your parents refused to pay you your allowance that you earned? Deep down, we all know that it is only right that a person gets what he deserves. Ask: What wages do you think you deserve from? Write the word above the word and draw a box around it. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of is eternal life in our Lord "How would a person have to live in order to deserve favor with and get into heaven? Wait for the person s response. Have you lived a perfect life that deserves s favor? (This should help him/ her to see that even by his/her own definition they fall short of living a good and perfect life.) " is more an attitude than an action it can be a hostile or apathetic response to. At any point in your life, have you been hostile or apathetic towards. Has ever seemed far away?" When he/she answers "yes," draw in the lines of the cliff on both sides and explain that sin has separated everyone from. Draw a man on the left side of the bridge. Have you ever felt separated from a friend or family member? What caused that separation? When he/she describes why there was separation, tell them that ultimate separation from is spiritual death. DEATH Write the word below the word on the left side of the page and draw a box around it. "What thoughts come to mind when you think of death? often means separation when we die our soul is separated from our body. If a person chooses to reject while he is alive, that separation will extend into eternity: the separation will ultimately result in eternal torment in hell. Not only will he experience separation from today, but also forever." Our sin creates a distance between us and."
3 BUT Write the word and draw a box around it at the bases of the cliffs. "This is the most important word in the verse because it indicates that there is hope for all of us. We have talked about bad news so far, but has good news. What we're going to talk about now is a contrast to what we just discussed." The Bible tells us in Romans 5:8 demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, died for us. That is really good news!! What is the result of s demonstration? The result is the death of for us while we were sinners deserving nothing from. This work of on our behalf is a gift we do not deserve. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of is eternal life in our Lord GIFT Write the word and draw a box around it on the right side of the cliff. "What is the difference between a gift and wages?" (From now on, be sure to point back and forth to each side of the cliff to emphasize that the words contrast with each other.) "A gift is not earned by the person who receives it, but someone else pays for it. How do you feel towards someone who gives you an expensive gift?" "Some people try to earn 's favor by doing good deeds, living moral lives, or taking part in religious activities. it is impossible to earn something that has already been bought." GOD Refer back to the box and remind he/she that the wages of sin is death but desires to give us a gift. " wants to give you a gift. I can't give it to you; a church can't give it to you; no one can give you this gift but alone. Why do you think would want to give you a gift? Why does anyone want to give someone a precious gift?" ETERNAL LIFE Write and draw a box around it on the right side of the cliff. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of is eternal life in our Lord "What do you think eternal life is?" Point to "DEATH" on the left side and show that "ETERNAL LIFE" is the opposite. "Eternal life means a relationship with in blissful harmony forever. Just as separation from starts in this life and extends into eternity, eternal life starts now and goes on forever. No sin can end it." (Ask if there is any part that you have explained so far that he does not under- our Lord stand or if he has any questions. Be sure that each point is clear before you proceed any further. If necessary, go back and explain each point that is not clear.) CHRIST JESUS Eternal Draw a cross between the cliffs as a bridge. Box the words "CHRIST JESUS" in the verse. Write "CHRIST JESUS" inside the cross. " is the means by which we can obtain the gift of eternal life. No one can offer a gift except the one who purchased it. He purchased it by paying for it with His life."
4 Hold out a pen or an object to the person, and ask him/her to imagine that someone had bought it for him as a present. As you hand it to him/her, ask them at what point the pen becomes his (when he accepts it). Tell them that they can accept 's gift to him by following three steps. LORD "The gift is offered to everyone who makes Lord. For to be Lord, He has to have total control of a person's life. He gains that control, or becomes Lord, when a person does t three things." 1. CONFESS AND REPENT Write "CONFESS" across the top of the cross on the left side and number it with a "1." "Confessing means to agree with that we are not perfect, that there are things in our lives that are wrong, and that we want to forgive us as we turn away from our sin." Write Repent next to Confess. Repenting means you turn from your sin, and with s help you commit sin less and less. 2. BELIEVE WITH YOUR HEART Write Believe with your heart across the top of the cross and number it with a 2. Romans 10:9-10 tells us: That if you confess with your mouth, " is Lord," and believe in your heart that raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of is eternal life in our Lord (Rom 6:23) Our Action 1. Confess & Repent 2. Believe in your heart our Lord Life with 3. Surrender & Follow 3. SURENDER AND FOLLOW Write Surrender and Follow across the top of the cross on the right side and number it 3. Surrendering and Following means giving up and surrender you life to and His ways. Draw a line across the top of the cross symbolizing moving from the side of wages, sin, and death to the right side of gift,, and eternal life. "As a person confesses and surrenders, he/she believes in there heart and pass across the bridge. They begin a relationship with as they daily surrender and follow and begin to experience a new and eternal life." "On the basis of what I have just explained, what must a person do to have a relationship with and eternal life?" (If he/she does not say "confess and repent, believe in your heart, and surrender and follow, and understand what that means, go back and explain it until it is clear.) "If you were to place yourself on the bridge, where would you be? Are you far off to the left far away from or close to the bridge and eager to learn more about? Ask: "What three things does a person have to do to cross over the bridge in order to begin a relationship with and have eternal life? "Is there any reason why you should not confess and repent, believe in your heart, and surrender and follow right now and begin to experience a close relationship with and eternal life?" If the person is ready to repent of his sin and trust for salvation, help him to pray, confessing his need for and confessing and repenting of sin and surrendering his life to. You may want to repeat a simple prayer similar to the one you prayed when you accepted and ask him to repeat it after you, one phrase at a time. Naturally, you will want to put the questions and explanations in this presentation into your own words. You might want to practice giving it to a ian friend before you share it with an unbeliever. After you have become familiar with this method, be sure to personalize it use your own stories or analogies so that the presentation becomes a natural part of you. It is also a good idea to know at least one verse that backs up each step in the illustration in case the hearer needs further explanation.be sure to listen carefully as the person you are talking with answers the questions. Try to understand where he stands in relation to the gospel and adjust your presentation to suit his personality and needs. Be alert to signs of confusion as you explain. Most important, remember that the power to change lives is not in having an effective, smooth-flowing illustration. It is the Spirit of who opens people's hearts to hear the message of salvation (Jn. 6:63 65). what a privilege we have in being able to co-labor with Himself in reaching out to others! Let us sharpen our tools and be ready always to give the answer that every person needs to hear with clarity and simplicity. Material used in this presentation was taken from One-Verse Evangelism by Randy D. Raysbrook, and Jeff Clayton. Material complied by Kris Decker.
