1 SPRINGDALES SCHOOL HOLIDAY HOMEWORK STD. I Dear Parents, The school will remain closed for the Summer Vacation from May 11 th to 3 rd July, 2016 (both days inclusive). We know that children are full of energy so they need to be occupied with some interesting and useful activities. Hence, we would request you to spend quality time with your child to help him/her carry out the activities especially planned for Std. I. Albums should be creative and have a good mix of drawings, paintings and collage. The presentation should be as original and novel as possible. The parents are requested to guide the children while working on the project. We should appreciate albums with children s work only. We have attempted to design a fun filled learning experience for the holiday project. We wish you an enjoyable Summer Break. Class Teacher

2 HOLIDAY HOMEWORK STD-I Our holiday homework revolves around the theme- The future that we want Select any one of the following topics and do any two activities in an album. 1. NATURE OUR BEST FRIEND-SAVE IT, PROTECT IT. 2. FESTIVALS ARE FUN LET S CELEBRATE OUR FESTIVALS FOR PEACE AND UNITY Note: - Hindi is separate and compulsory TOPIC:- NATURE OUR BEST FRIEND-SAVE IT, PROTECT IT Grow more trees. 1. Let s learn how to grow a plant. Soak a few gram/rajma seeds in water. Take a plastic container. Decorate it creatively. Put some mud in it and germinate the seeds in it. Water it daily and see how it grows. Bring this plant to school after the holidays. 2. We use every part of a plant for our benefit. Draw a plant and label the parts. Mention one use of each part e.g. stemsugarcane.

3 1 3. SAVE THE TREES Draw an outline of a tree paste pictures to depict the things we get from trees. Use creative material to depict e.g. Trees give us oxygen, fruits and vegetables, flowers, rubber, jute, cotton, paper etc. Or Plants also give shelter to many animals. Make stick puppets of animals that live on trees and paste them in your album. E.g. monkey, birds, snake etc. 4. SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT-ODD EVEN A BOON Last evening, I went for a walk. I saw ten cars parked in my colony. I noted the numbers from the number plates as follows- DL3CA1302 DL4AU9425 DL2MO1576 MH4AU0311 PB6TZ1468 UK2O9761 RJO4L6072 MHZL6798 CH4P2211 DL2UC9060 I sorted these numbers under odd and even. I wrote the odd numbers on a yellow sheet and even numbers on a green sheet. 5.You enjoy going to the garden, as you see many beautiful things around you. e.g. - plants, animals, birds, pond, etc. What would you like to see in the garden of tomorrow? Write number names 1 to 10 on separate sheets, depicting the objects with numerals you would like to see in the garden of tomorrow. E.g. 2 BUTTERFLY FLOWERS

4 6. Leaves are very useful to us. We decorate our house on occasions and eat on big leaves which are Bio- degradable. Go for a walk with your parents or grandparents in the morning. Collect some leaves lying on the ground. Dry them. Make a creative figure using these dry leaves. Paste them. Give a name to your figure and write 5 sentences about it. e.g.- 7. YOUR GARDEN OF TOMORROW List down 20 things that you wish to see in the garden of tomorrow. Make a word chain using the last letter of each word. E.g.- garden nest tree swing grass Help Box nest, spider, web, egg, bush, flowers, leaves, bird, children, swing, bench, ants, friends, grass, gardener, dragonfly

5 TOPIC- FESTIVALS ARE FUN Let s celebrate our festivals for peace and unity. Festivals have always been and will be an expressive way to celebrate the Earth s glorious heritage, culture and traditions. 1. Find out about any one festival celebrated in another country. Draw or stick pictures related to it and write five sentences about it. E.g. Lantern festival celebrated in China. 2. We believe in making a better tomorrow. Living in harmony with nature has been an integral part of festivals that are celebrated. -Make a poster- SAY NO TO CRACKERS 3. There is joy in celebrating festivals. a. Draw or paste pictures of your favourite festival and write at least five sentences about how it brings unity. b..make a word train. Begin the word with the name of any festival. Then use the last letter to begin the next word. E.g.- etc. EID Draw Water Rainbow c. Make as many words as you can from the word CHRISTMAS E.g.-mat, hat, shirt etc. 4. I have learnt so much Find any 10 words related to festivals e.g. - celebrations, fun, gifts etc. Try and use them in your conversation every day.

6 We all cherish the moments spent with our near and dear ones. We should all live in harmony. 5. Make a table calendar. Use yellow sheet for months with 28 and 30 days (even number), green sheet for months with 31 days (odd number). Month wise depict Holi, Eid, Gurupurab, Diwali, Christmas etc. 6. Festivals create an environment of cultural harmony. We can see kites flying in the sky during the Kite Festival. Make cut outs of kites. Paste them according to the numeral, number-name and value 1 to 10 1 KITE 2 KITES 7. Shapes have created wonders in the world. Using shapes of different colours and sizes make a rangoli. Also mention the number of each shape that you have used. E.g.-Circles- Rectangles- Triangles- Squares- 8. Different colours live happily around us. We should learn from them. Depict with the help of pictures. a. There are 5 red lanterns and 3 blue ones. How many lanterns are there in all?
