PURPOSE OF THE TEAM The Global Volunteering Team works with volunteers from the UK, Bangladesh and South Africa. We facilitate opportunities for individuals and groups to engage with our community development work in some of the poorest countries around the world. We do this to develop individuals, increase long-term active citizenship, and support the work of our partners. We want our programmes to be a catalyst for lasting change in people s lives. Our volunteers work alongside our local partners and the local church to learn first-hand from them about the reality of community-development work. We want to support the active learning and development of all our volunteers, and deepen their understanding of poverty and mission so that their placement isn t a oneoff event, but a life long journey. 2. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To lead and develop our global volunteering work; providing strategic oversight, management of senior staff, quality assurance and compliance with policies and procedures. 3. GENERIC PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To take responsibility for a designated area of the team s overall task or specific projects. PARTICIPATION IN THE SPIRITUAL LIFE OF TEARFUND To attend corporate weekly Staff Prayers on Wednesdays, to hear of Tearfund s work and to spend time in prayer and worship together. To lead or participate in spiritual sessions of prayer and biblical reflection within the Team / Group To be committed to Tearfund s Missions, Values and Beliefs statement. POSITION IN ORGANISATION The post reports to the Head of Networks, Communications & Volunteering. It works closely with the countries group and the UK Churches team.

SCOPE OF JOB Develop and deliver Tearfund s global volunteering strategy Programme development Quality and performance management Management of safety, security, risk & compliance Learning and Information Management Networking and representation 7. DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and deliver Tearfund s global volunteering strategy Development of the strategy and vision (in support of Tearfund s global approaches, country strategies and supporter development) Delivery of this strategy in collaboration with others, against agreed outcomes, time frames, budget and quality standards Monitoring and evaluation of the strategy and reporting on progress Thought leadership around global volunteering and youth participation Line management of the ICS Programme Manager, IVT Pre-Placement Manager, IVT Placement Manager and GVT Recruitment Manager Programme development Strategic oversight of variety of programmes offered Pursue opportunities and develop new programmes, in line with broader strategy Ensure space for innovation and creativity within the team Actively pursuing additional donor funding and new opportunities for partnerships Manage discrete projects as appropriate Quality and performance management Support the teams in the fulfilment of their duties; providing supervision, direction and mentoring Participation in pre-departure training events Effective performance management, the maintenance of good working relationships, the maintenance of appropriate staffing levels and the clear delegation of responsibilities between roles Overall budget management Ensure clarity of targets, planning and standard procedures Quality assurance and Impact monitoring Management of safety, security, risk & compliance Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures relevant to our global volunteering work Ensure legal and financial standards are met Management of associated risks, ensuring a risk register and issue log are kept and reviewed regularly Ensure 24/7 support is available to teams in country to deal with safety and security incidents Learning and Information management Building of an evidence base of good practice, including through recommending, undertaking or commissioning evaluations Champion and incorporate ongoing learning and reflection from monitoring and evaluation activities Ensure cross organisational collaboration and learning Ensure excellent inter-team communication and knowledge management Networking and representation Internal engagement in integrated campaigns and strong liaison with other teams Ensure excellent stakeholder engagement Represent the team both internally and externally Manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders Network with other agencies to share and apply learning

5 TEARFUND INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS JOB TITLE: Global Volunteering Manager OFFICE HOURS: Monday to Friday 9.00am pm with one hour for lunch. 35 hour working week ANNUAL LEAVE - FULL YEAR: 25 days pro-rata + statutory bank hols + additional days at Christmas SICK LEAVE SCHEME: Based on length of service NON-CONTRIBUTORY PENSION SCHEME: Tearfund will contribute 10% of your salary to your pension. All staff are contractually enrolled onto the Tearfund group pension scheme. NEW STAFF SERVICE: 6 months probationary period with a 3 month review Grade: 2 SALARY: 44,500
