Geevor Tin Mine can offer Work Experience placements in each school year either as a Museum Assistant or Gallery Guide. Page 1 of 8

2 If, having read all the information that follows, you would like to be considered for a work experience placement at the Geevor Tin Mine museum, please complete the application form provided and include a covering letter that explains why you would particularly like a work placement with us and which week you would like to come. Due to the level of demand, we are only able to offer students one week of work experience. Once your application form has been received, and if you have been shortlisted, you will be notified telling you what to do next. Short-listed applicants may be invited to attend an interview. Interviews will be relaxed and informal and any issues or concerns you may have can be discussed. At Geevor, we have already had many students on placements, and we are sure that anyone wishing to come and work with us would enjoy their time here. Thank you for your interest in the Geevor Tin Mine Museum. Perched on the Cornish coastline, Geevor Tin Mine is the largest preserved tin mining site in Europe. Last working in 1991, this heritage site is a key part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site and now introduces thousands of visitors each year to the once thriving Cornish industry of tin mining. Explore a wide range of mine buildings like the evocative Miners Dry which look as if the miners left only yesterday or sit in the winder drivers cabin, talk to former miners who have experienced the physically demanding job of tin mining firsthand, and experience for yourself the underground atmosphere in an 18 th century mine. Discover more about the skill of hard rock mining and the stories of those who worked there in the interactive Hard Rock Museum and have a go at panning for gems, whilst enjoying the stunning Cornish coastline and views over the Atlantic. Events for all ages are run throughout the year including tin smelting demonstrations, guided walks, talks and hands-on hand-drilling sessions. Page 2 of 8

Placements with us are popular and competitive, so read the following instructions very carefully to ensure your best chance of securing a place. Read the entire application form BEFORE completing it. Make sure you complete ALL the sections. Please use black or blue ink only. There is no need to supply additional letters in support of your application. Please DO NOT send your Approval and Consent forms in with your application, these will only be required if you are successful. Please ensure your application arrives addressed to Clint Hosking PLEASE ENCLOSE A STAMPED, SELF-ADDRESSED ENVELOPE WITH YOUR APPLICATION Your application will NOT be considered if you have NOT enclosed a SAE Bear in mind that we receive a large number of applications. 6 Geevor Mine Museum Work Experience Programme of the Week Induction including Health and Safety On your first day, you will be given a health and safety briefing, including emergency procedures, before you begin any work. You will be shown around the premises and introduced to the staff. Before your placement begins, you will be given the name of your link person and if at any point during the week you are late or ill, please contact this person as soon as possible. 8 General Information How to get to Geevor Geevor Tin Mine Pendeen Penzance Cornwall County Council TR19 7EW Geevor Tin Mine is located in the village of Pendeen, 7 miles West of Penzance. It is easily reached from Penzance, St Ives or Lands End by either car or bus. By Road from Penzance or St Ives - By Road From Penzance - From the A30 Penzance bypass take the main road to St Just (A3071). Follow the brown signs indicating Historic Mining Area. Continue along the A3071 and fork right on the B3318 to Pendeen. Turn left at the cross roads to drive through Pendeen and turn right at the Geevor main entrance. From Lands End and St Just - Turn off the A30 to St Just on the B3306. At St Just continue to Pendeen. Geevor is situated about 3 miles from St Just along the north coast. From St Ives - Follow the beautiful coast road (the B3306) through Zennor and Morvah to Pendeen. By Bus From Penzance - Take the 10 and ask for Geevor Tin Mine. From St Just - Take the 10 (also 300 in summer) and ask for Geevor Tin Mine. From St Ives - In summer take the 300 open top bus and ask for Geevor Tin Mine.
