1 CITATION + CURATION GUIDELINES WHEN (AND HOW) TO CITE ABERDEEN RESEARCH April, 2015

2 HELLO Aberdeen Group is a publisher of content derived from primary research. This document outlines our guidelines around quoting, attributing, citing, licensing and otherwise curating Aberdeen Group research data points and content. All use of Aberdeen Group research is subject to our review and approval (with the exception of press and ContentAccess clients). 2

3 CONTENTACCESS While Aberdeen members may read research content at no cost, ContentAccess is a paid Content-as-a-Service program that provides marketers with licensing rights to use thousands of pieces of Aberdeen research. 5 BLOGS All stats and charts used in a blog post must be accompanied by the title of the report, the date, and a link to the source report hosted on Aberdeen.com. EXAMPLE 1 report inline According to the Aberdeen Group report, "Mobile EPM: Improving Decision-Making When Time is of the Essence" (June 2014), Best-in-Class organizations are twice as likely as All Others to have the ability to access performance data from a mobile device. EXAMPLE 2 report as source Recent research shows that organizations with mobile access to performance data saw an 11% decrease in the time it takes to make a decision. (Source: Mobile EPM: Improving Decision-Making When Time is of the Essence, Aberdeen Group, June 2014). Any syndication (re-publishing of an Aberdeen blog post, report, or other content in its entirety) may be done so only with permission. ContentAccess clients are allowed to link from a blog post to anywhere, including a branded landing page or other offer. STRIKE A BALANCE: Up to 30% of a blog post should be Aberdeen or other 3 rd party content. 70% should be your perspective and commentary. 5

6 QUOTING ABERDEEN If quoting from a report or any Aberdeen property such as CMOEssentials.com, quotes must be reproduced verbatim and attributed to the analyst. They should also link back to the source article (ContentAccess customers excluded.) EXAMPLE "One sales reality that hasn't shifted is the need for face-to-face, interpersonal communications that build bonds of trust between buyers and sellers," according to a blog post by Peter Ostrow, VP and Group Director, Sales Effectiveness & Strategy at Aberdeen Group. THE GOLDEN RULE OF QUOTATIONS: Always quote verbatim don t paraphrase or summarize. When in doubt, ask for written permission. 6

7 PRESS RELEASES Any organization wishing to include a quote from an Aberdeen Group analyst in a press release may do so with express written permission from the analyst. [Quote attribution: Analyst name, title, research practice, Aberdeen Group] EXAMPLE 1 approved analyst quote "One of the key benefits of Enterprise Performance Management is more agile decisionmaking," according to Nick Castellina, Research Director of the Business Planning & Execution practice at Aberdeen Group. "In fact, Best-in-Class organizations are twice as likely as All Others to have the ability to access performance data from a mobile device." If referencing a data point from a specific report, please include a link to the report page hosted on Aberdeen.com (ContentAccess customers can link elsewhere) and attain written permission: EXAMPLE 2 referencing a report The Best-in-Class are currently 73% more likely than All Others to have implemented an EPM solution, according to the Aberdeen Group report Mobile EPM: Improving Decision-Making When Time is of the Essence" (June 2014). 7

8 CURATION ContentAccess clients are permitted to create derivative works using Aberdeen research content, including: Infographics Whitepapers* Guides & ebooks* Newsletters Social updates Videos Sales enablement materials Presentations Partner marketing materials Product sheets Slideshares What can t you do? Your subscription enables you to use as much content as you like from a given research asset, though our terms of use prevent you from copying/ pasting an entire research asset and re-creating it in a different format. Misuse will result in a ceaseand-desist notification. Standard attribution: Graphics and statistics should be attributed. Source: Aberdeen Group, Month, Year. (Aberdeen logo optional) * Needs boilerplate: Long-form content 3+ pages in length (starred above) must contain a final section that lists the boilerplate language alongside the Aberdeen logo.
