What is a blog? It's a space for interaction, a (virtual) gathering place where people can socialize and freely express their creativity and opinion on any topic; it is also an interactive environment that can be used as tool for collaborating on University-related activities. A blog can be created with just a few, simple steps. The instructions below will allow you to create and enrich your own blog and/or interact with other bloggers. Anyone can be a self-editor with a blog: 5 minutes is all it takes to prepare a blog for publication. All you need is an internet connection, a little bit of spare time, and a strong desire to tell your story. Why YouBlog? To facilitate the diffusion of a culture that considers sharing and interpersonal relationships as the key factor for growth and innovation, to explore forms and original phenomena of aggregation and community. The crucial element is not the tool itself, but its use, or rather the original way it may be used by different Entities... other than yet another venue for self-expression and interaction with friends and colleagues. Your Blog in 5 moves (or even less ) 1. Access the system using your sign-in authorization credentials. 2. Upon logging in for the first time, accept the conditions for the use of the service. Remember: the blog is a personal tool, and for this reason each user (blogger) is responsible for the content, images, video and music published through it. Use common sense and don't let it become a pretext for those who may think providing a free space for personal expression is "dangerous". this is where the fun starts 3. After logging in for the first time and accepting the conditions for the use, you may choose either "create your blog now" or browse existing blogs : 1

If you choose to browse the existing blogs, you will be brought to the Home Page, where you can input a name or keyword into the YouBlog search engine: or otherwise use the navigation menu on the right to visit: the "Most popular blogs", meaning the ones most visited; the "Best rated blogs", meaning those that earned the highest visitor votes; the "New blogs", meaning the most recently created blogs; the "Blogs of the day", meaning a random selection of existing blogs; the "Most updated" meaning those with the highest frequency of publication; After selecting a blog, one may also navigate through "blogs in the same category". Lastly, it is also possible to display blogs categorized by topic (the files in the middle column of the Home Page). You may interact with other bloggers by posting a comment. The opinions, comments, information and data content of each blog shall not be used for any purpose other than publication on the blog itself. 4. Share your story! To create your blog click on Adding a blog (upon the first sign-on only) requires three, extremely simple steps. HTML language knowledge is not required. 2

If you wish to create a blog after your first session (you may create more than one if you wish), you may do so by clicking on the "Create a new blog" button found on the right hand side column of the Home Page: Once the page opens, simply fill in the "Title" and "Content" (meaning the description of your blog content) fields and then click on "Save". 3

Choose a name, start writing and then... add whatever you want: the standard space allowance is 20.0 Mb for each blog, and you can use up to 16.0 Mb of it to upload photos, images, videos, etc. Additional information on how to add articles, videos and images can be found in the FAQ section at the end of this document. 5. And the most "wise": May use the Gallery link (in the menu displayed after the user sign-on): click on the red button to link to photos and videos on other websites (youtube, libero video, etc., and in full abidance of copyright regulations) or to photos and videos you created (and in this case covered by the Creative Commons license; further details are available directly on the pages of the blog and in the "General conditions of use" document found on the blog Home Page). Use the Blogroll link (from the menu displayed after you sign-on): click on the red button to insert a link to your one of your favourite blogs or websites (visible only to you under "my favourites") or recommend them so that it will appear to users who visit your blog under the "Recommended" voice of the menu on the right. There is also a much faster 4

way to add blogs to your favourites: when you find a blog you like, click on the on the top left of the page. To erase it, click on the button in Blogroll. symbol Use the "Blog Pages" function to expand and diversify your published content and address a wide variety of topics using different pages of the same blog. How? Simply click on the button under the Blog title to display the "Change Blog" page that has the following box on its right hand side. Click on the button to choose the name of the page you wish to add to the blog. How can you add an article? Simply choose the blog page you wish to publish the article on from the drop down menu at the bottom of the "Add Articles" page. A link to each page containing at least one article will appear in the "my blogs" box. YouBlog FAQ How do I create/change an article in my blog? To create a new article, click on "Add article". This will display the "Add articles" page. After writing your article, click on "Save" to save it as a draft, or Save and publish" for immediate publication. To make changes to an existing article, click on the symbol next to its title. This will open the "Change Articles" page. After changing your article, click on "Save" or "Save and publish". How do I turn an already published article back into a draft? Go to menu at the bottom of the " Change Articles", choose the "Draft" option and click on "Save". How do I add an image to an article? Go to the "Add articles" or "Change articles", click on the symbol on the right hand side of the bar under Gallery. Click on browse and open the image you wish to upload. Thereafter click on the "add" button. Please note that although you are not required to fill in the "title" and description fields, this may be useful for creating a materials catalogue. Now that the image has been added to the Gallery, simply click on the button underneath it to insert it in the article (those using Internet Explorer 6 and 7 or Mozilla Firefox or Safari browsers can also drag the image directly into the text area of the article). After being inserted into the text, the image may be moved and re-sized by clicking on one of its corners and moving the mouse diagonally (with Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 6 and 7 browsers). How do I add a video to an article? Go to the "Add articles" or "Change articles" page, click on the symbol in the bar on the right hand side under Gallery. Click on browse and open the video you wish to upload. Thereafter click on the "add" button. Please note that although you are not required to fill in the "title" and description fields, this may be useful for creating a materials catalogue. Now that the video has been added to the Gallery, simply click on the button underneath it to insert it in the article. 5

After being inserted into the text, the video may be moved and re-sized by clicking on one of its corners and moving the mouse diagonally (with Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 6 and 7 browsers). I can't play the video I added to the article. Why? Check your pc to make sure you have all the plug-ins necessary to play the video you uploaded (WMP, Quick Time, Flash Player or other). How do I add a blog to my favourites? Access the blog in question and click on the icon immediately above its title. This will create a link to the blog and display it in the navigation menu on the right hand side of "My Favourites". Note: the content of "My Favourites" can not be viewed by other users. How do I vote for a blog I like? When you find a blog you like, vote for it by clicking on the icon on the upper left. A side string will display how many votes the blog received. Please any observations and suggestions relative top the content of this document or the service itself to: An electronic, updated version of this document is available on the blog system access page. 6
