1 UNIVRSITY OF LINCOLN JOB DSCRIPTION JOB TITL DPARTMNT LOCATION Graduate Trainee Finance Brayford Pool JOB NUMBR FS6100 GRAD 4 DAT June 2013 RPORTS TO Financial Reporting and Planning Accountant CONTXT The Finance Department consists of approximately 30 professional staff who have relationships with every area of the University at both a strategic and operational level. The role of Finance ranges from supporting the development of University strategy, to maintaining accurate accounting records and the safeguarding of assets JOB PURPOS To support the delivery of timely and accurate University wide financial information, including management and statutory accounts, budgets and forecasts and external financial data returns. The role holder will be expected to undertake a programme of professional study for an accountancy qualification (ACCA). This will be funded by the University in accordance with the departmental study policy. Page 1 of 6

2 KY RSPONSIBILITIS Month nd and Year nd Financial Reporting Preparing high quality and accurate monthly management accounts Monitoring performance against budget, identifying variances and investigating causes Monitoring monthly balance sheet accounts and preparing reconciliations Reconciling, monitoring and forecasting student related income, working with the Accounts Receivable and Planning team Reconciling, monitoring and forecasting student bursaries and scholarships, working with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Registry Preparing and collating data financial documentation for the year end accounts process Financial Planning and Forecasting To support the Financial Reporting and Planning Accountant in the preparation of the University s annual budget and five year forecasts Management Information (MI) To support the Financial Reporting and Planning Accountant in the preparation of ad-hoc financial MI requests from both internal and external stakeholders. Resource allocation Preparing budget and forecast data for space, student and staff related resource costs Allocation of monthly charges to Colleges and Professional Services Monitoring and reconciliation of resource costs Preparing College and Professional Service resource allocation reports Internal audit To support the Financial Reporting and Planning Accountant in the administration and organisation of the annual internal audit plan. xternal data returns Preparing the University s HSA (Higher ducation Statistics Agency) finance return Preparing the financial tables due to HFC as part of the Annual Accountability Return Preparing the University s TRAC (Transparent Approach to Costing) and TRAC for Page 2 of 6

3 Teaching returns Financial awareness training Developing, implementing and delivering financial awareness training across the University Liaising with the Staff Learning and Development Team within HR to embed into staff training programmes Develop understanding of systems and structures Develop understanding of Agresso and reporting structures to enable accurate reporting and analysis of financial data. In addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post. Page 3 of 6
