The UK continue to set a leading example by introducing carbon reduction programmes for the built environment which work above and beyond those of Europe and the rest of the world. The Climate Change Act sets the UK the world s first legally binding framework for carbon reduction. The UK has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by The UK built environment and construction industry have a vital role to play in meeting the UK s carbon targets. For example, CO 2 emissions from dwellings and non-domestic buildings represent 27% and 18% of the UK s total CO 2 emissions respectively. Alongside this, around 10% of UK emissions are associated with the manufacture and transport of construction materials and the construction process. Within the UK, a range of carbon reduction programmes exist to ensure that both new build and refurbishment schemes look to increase the overall energy efficiency of UK buildings and place greater emphasis on a fabric first approach to design and build. Implemented with effect from April 2014, the new Approved Document L (Part L) for England calls for an overall 6% carbon reduction for new domestic buildings. New non-domestic buildings have a 9% reduction target. These are both when compared to previous 2010 Regulation levels. Building Regulation updates targets are also due for implementation for Wales in June 2014 and also to Section 6 for Scotland in October These new Regulations represent a vital step change towards zero carbon homes and buildings. The introduction of the Fabric Energy Efficiency Standard (FEES) as part of the new Part L Regulations promotes a fabric first approach for compliance to new Regulations, ensuring that all buildings have a higher level of fabric performance than previously required. 2 Sustainability

3 Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) For existing buildings, the Government s flagship programme Green Deal offers homeowners as well as businesses the opportunity to apply for up-front finance to install energy efficient measures. Alongside this, the new ECO programme will provide extra financial assistance for priority groups and householders in older properties. ECO finance is provided by major energy suppliers. With up to seven million solid wall properties requiring insulation upgrades, ECO will see an increased focus on solid wall measures which did not benefit from previous CERT and CESP schemes. Doncaster NHS Centre Celotex A+ rating was a key consideration for the insulation used within a new 6.5m NHS Health Centre in Doncaster. Celotex 5000 series products achieve lambda values of W/mK and also feature Celotex IQ super low emissivity facings which can further improve the thermal performance of applications which contain a cavity airspace. 5 Third Party Approvals Environmental Impact As leaders within the PIR market, Celotex possess a suite of third party approvals to provide independent validation of product performance. A range of BBA certificates verify both lambda and emissivity performance. All Celotex products are CE marked in accordance with BS EN or BS EN Environmental impact is becoming an increasingly more important consideration during the specification process. Through its BRE Approved Environmental Profile, Celotex is able to independently certify the environmental impact for a selection of its product ranges. Green Guide Rating ISO Celotex was the first PIR manufacturer to achieve an A+ Green Guide rating. This rating has been maintained through ongoing recertification and now includes even more Celotex products as part of the profile. Celotex products are all manufactured in accordance with the environmental management system ISO As well as this, the suppliers of the principal raw materials used in the manufacture of Celotex products also possess this standard allowing a credit to be achieved within the Materials category of BREEAM assessments. Measured by the BRE s Ecopoint rating, Celotex achieve the lowest environmental impact of any PIR manufacturer and from its most recent recertification, has improved this impact by over 5% since Moreover, when compared to the generic PIR Ecopoint score, Celotex impact is over 20% better than that of noncertified PIR manufacturers. Watermead Business Park, Leicestershire Cundalls Road, Ware, Hertfordshire The first carbon negative Passivhaus commercial office in England. Celotex was used in the external walls. The occupants predicted almost 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions would be saved every year compared to their previous offices. Air-tightness levels showed an 800% reduction compared to Building Regulation standards. New build housing programme where Celotex insulation was specified in the cavity walls to assist in achieving a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 rating without the need for renewable technologies.
