2 Toasted Sandwich Ingredients 2 slices of wholemeal bread 1-2 slices of cooked ham 25g cheese Low-fat margarine spread Other optional ingredients: Pineapple Tomato Onion Remember: Don t touch electrical equipment with wet hands 1) Collect all ingredients and equipment 2) Pre-heat toasted sandwich maker 3) Grate cheese, cut sliced ham in half, slice any other preferred toppings e.g. tomato 4) Butter one side of each slice of bread 5) Place ingredients on one side of the unbuttered slice of bread 6) Place the other unbuttered side on top. You want to out the buttered sides of the sandwich into the toasted sandwich maker. 7) Place sandwich into sandwich maker and cook until golden and crispy on the outside. 8) Tidy up and wash dishes 9) Serve toasted sandwich when ready with green salad or coleslaw

3 French Bread Pizza Ingredients 1 small individual baguette 1-2tbsp tomato puree or pizza sauce 25-30g cheddar cheese 1 tsp mixed herbs Choice of toppings: Ham, sweetcorn, pineapple, mixed peppers The method of cooking used to make this dish is grilling 1 ) Pre-heat grill 2) Split baguette in two halves 3) Grate cheese and prepare other toppings e.g. chopping ham, pineapple and peppers 4) Spread tomato puree over baguette sprinkle over some mixed herbs 5) Add toppings and then grated cheese 6) Place under grill and cook until cheese bubbles and begins to brown 7) Serve immediately

4 Apple Scones Ingredients 225g self-raising flour 25g margarine 100ml milk 25g caster sugar 1 small eating apple Few tablespoons of milk to brush scones The method of cooking used to make these scones is baking. Don t forget to use oven gloves. Bring a lunchbox or cake tin to bring your scones home. 1) Pre-heat oven to 180c 2) Collect equipment and ingredients 3) Sieve flour into mixing bowl 4) Rub in margarine (it will disappear into the mixture) 5) Add sugar 6) Peel and dice apple into small pieces 7) Add apple to flour mixture and stir around 8) Make a well in the flour mixture and slowly add the milk using a knife to combine the mixture together 9) Be careful not to add all the milk at once or too much your dough should be soft but not too sticky 10) Shape into a circle and lightly roll out though not too thin 11) Cut into shapes using a scone cutter and place on a baking tray 12) Brush the top of the scone lightly with milk 13) Using oven gloves place in oven and bake for minutes and scones are golden brown

5 Apple Crumble Filling: 1 large cooking apple 50g caster sugar Topping: 75g porridge oats 75g plain flour 75g margarine 25g caster sugar Variations: Try adding another fruit to the apple e.g. strawberries, blackberries, pear or canned peaches in juice 1) Pre-heat oven to 160c 2) Collect equipment and ingredients 3) Weigh out ingredients for crumble topping 4) Place flour, oats and margarine into mixing bowl 5) Gently rub the margarine into the flour and oats until it looks like breadcrumbs 6) Stir in the sugar 7) Peel core and slice the apple into even sized pieces 8) Arrange apple on bottom of dish and sprinkle over sugar 9) Pour over crumble topping 10) Place dish on baking tray and bake in oven for minutes fruit has cooked and topping is golden brown 11) Tidy up and wash dishes

6 Tuna Pasta Salad Ingredients 75g cooked pasta ½ can of tuna 1 spring onion 2 tablespoons sweetcorn ¼ each of red, green and yellow pepper 2 tablespoons of low fat mayonnaise Bring a clean lunchbox or container to put your salad into 1) Collect equipment and ingredients 2) Cook pasta drain and cool 3) Wash peppers and spring onion 4) Dice peppers into small pieces and add to mixing bowl 5) Slice spring onion and add to mixing bowl 6) Add sweetcorn to mixing bowl 7) Open can of tuna drain any liquid and add to mixing bowl 8) Add cooked pasta 9) Mix all the ingredients together well and add the mayonnaise and mix through again spoon into container 10) Wash up and complete dishes

7 Spaghetti Bolognese This recipe makes enough for 1-2 people to make more simply double the quantities Ingredients: 100g lean minced steak 1 onion finely diced 1 clove garlic 1-2 tsp dried mixed herbs or handful of fresh herbs e.g. basil and oregano 1-2 tablespoons tomato puree 1 carton or can of chopped tomatoes ½ grated carrot Tips: Trying adding extra vegetables such as peppers or mushrooms to help meet your five a day Don t forget to wash hands after handling raw meat 1) Collect equipment and ingredients 2) Place saucepan on hob on medium heat when it has heated a little add mince without any additional cooking oil and dry fry as this helps reduce the fat content 3) While meat is browning finely chop onion and crush garlic 4) Add onion and garlic to meat and reduce heat 5) Grate carrot and add to meat stir well. Prepare and add any other vegetables you are using. 6) Add tomato puree and cook for a couple of minutes stirring constantly 7) Add chopped tomatoes and mix well 8) Add herbs 9) Simmer on a gentle heat for at least minutes 10) Serve with freshly cooked pasta

8 Fairy Cakes 100g self-raising flour 100g margarine 100g caster sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp of vanilla or lemon flavouring These cakes can be made using the quick all-in-one method 1) Pre-heat oven to 180c 2) Place 12 paper bun cases in bun tin 3) Weigh out ingredients 4) Sieve flour into large mixing bowl 5) Crack eggs into small bowl and mix together with a fork 6) Place in the mixing bowl with the flour and add all other ingredients 7) Mix together until you have a smooth batter 8) Using a dessert spoon put a spoonful of mixture into each paper case 9) Bake in the oven for minutes until golden brown 10) Remove from oven and cool on a cooling rack 11) Place into large lunchbox or cake tin for carrying home 12) Decorate at home using icing and sprinkles or jam and coconut

9 Fruit Smoothies Ingredients: 1 small pot of flavoured low fat yoghurt 100ml of orange juice 1 banana 4-6 fresh strawberries or ½ can of tinned strawberries or other fruit e.g. peaches, raspberries 1-2 scoops of ice-cream (optional leave out if looking for healthier alternative) Tip: When making smoothies use soft fruits that will blend well. 1) Collect equipment and ingredients 2) Wash and chop fruit - place into a measuring jug 3) Add orange juice 4) Add yoghurt 5) Add ice-cream if using 6) Use a hand blender to blend together until smooth or place into a blender or smoothie maker and blend together until smooth 7) Pour into tall glass garnish with a piece of fruit 8) Serve and enjoy
