To assist in this effort, the district regularly inspects and reviews the condition of the school facilities and surrounding grounds. The district places the highest priority on those safeguards that impact the fire, life and safety protection of the students, staff, and school buildings. Below is more specific information on the condition of the school and the efforts made to ensure that students are provided with a safe, clean, environmentally friendly, and functional learning environment. Age of School Buildings: Toyon was opened in This school has 20 regular classrooms, a multipurpose room, a library, and an administration building. In addition to the main building, there are five portable classrooms that have been added to accommodate class size reduction and instructional programs used by the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Maintenance and Repair: District maintenance staff ensures that the repairs necessary to keep the school in good repair and working order are completed in a timely manner. A work order process is used to ensure efficient service and highest priority is given to emergency repairs. The district has established cleaning standards for all of its schools. The principal, with the assistance of the Director of School Facilities, works daily with the custodial staff to ensure that the cleaning standards are met, and that every bathroom is maintained and cleaned regularly. 9 Our PTA provides resources that support our classroom instructional programs, as well as school wide assemblies and activities. Parents and staff volunteer during various events, such as Back to School Night, Open House, Book Fairs, Science Nights, Community Pledges, Harvest Festival, and campus beautification days. Parents and community members are encouraged to assist students in the classroom or help prepare projects in the Family Resource Center. Some parents support the teachers or school by completing tasks at home. Honest communication is our core value. We have established an effective School Site Council that meets the first Wednesday of every month. Our PTA meets in the evening of the same day. The school motto is, "Take care of yourself, take care of others, and take care of our school". Students are recognized for their positive attitudes and effort in school as well as their academic achievement. School Safety All visitors must report to the office to sign in and out. They are given an identification badge to wear during their visit. Staff and volunteers monitor student safety while on the playground and at drop off and pick up stations We hold monthly fire and earthquake drills, alert parents about safety and traffic concerns in the school newsletters, and hold assemblies to educate students about safety. The site safety committee reviews and updates the school's emergency preparedness plan. They organize the Code Red drills. A district wide emergency telephone communication system is in place. D.
